How exactly does damage reduction perform? For example, there is the ranger skill Call of Protection that increases base damage reduction. For each number, is that multiplied by ten to give a percent? Is that number the amount of damage reduced per hit? Am I missing something very obvious?

Think of it as a shielding hands for pets. It's the amount of damage you sustain minus the damage reduction.

So, if an attack would strike your pet for 15 damage, and you have a call of protection that gives 10 base damage reduction, your pet would take 5 damage. Any direct damage 10 damage or less will not affect your pet's health.

For Call of Protection, yes, it reduces any damage taken by that set amount. Say it reduces damage by 4, any time you take damage you'll take 4 less. If you would have taken 10 damage you'll take 6. If you would have taken 100 you'll take 96. If you would have taken 4 you'll take 0. And so on.

There are other ways of reducing damage that works instead as a percentage of damage taken. Life bond, for example, will cause you to take 75% of whatever damage you would have suffered. If you would have taken 10 it's 8 (thanks to rounding), if you would have taken 100 it's 75 and if you would have taken 4 it's 3.

Then there's armor adding buffs and things like Reversal of Fortune which can also reduce damage. But when a skill says damage is reduced by x, that's the amount that's taken off each hit you'll receive. If it says damage is reduced by x% then each hit's damage is lowered by that percentage.

Thanks.

Since this needs to be lengthened to 10 characters- even though this makes up for it- I'll copy and paste "Thanks." ten times.
