New Race Ideas!
Guild Master
I was fine with it for a long time now, but since it is summer, i can finally say it. We need new races. Humans are fine and all, but there is nothing better than killing other players in the boots of a giant Charr! Here are some of my race ideas:
Dwarves
Charr
Undead
Gnomes (some race has to look up to you )
Elves (or something similar to that)
Grall
Trolls
Feel free to add your own race ideas! Just don't flame this thread, please.

Charr-> no
Undead-> maybe
Gnomes-> no
Elves-> yes
Grall-> same as charr no
Trolls-> no
If Anet plans to add new Races, Dwarfs are first in line. Honestly, half the game your in the shiverpeaks with em anyway.
I would like to see New races tho. Like with races, Dwarfs have better warrior attributes than a undead would, but undead would be a better necro or something like that. I dont know, im just talking...
Reiden Argrock
you know, you said new races... I don't see any except for Charr and Grawl, and since they are both enemies, that are part of the storyline, they would never work, the only possible thing on this list is dwarves, and their nothing new...
Tactical-Dillusions
Things i would like to be...
White mantle priest.
Skeleton ranger.
Enchanted bow.

Elves are new... i wanna see some pointy ears
Blow_Holez
It would be fun being a char, maybe the next chapter can have a war between the this continent and cantha, and all species on tyria (tyria is the continent we are on, right?) must fight cantha?
Guild Master
I mean new PLAYABLE races. Not new storyline races.
corax5
Unless they add cetain special aspects for the different races I dont think they'l add elves because looks wise they're pretty similar to humans. I think undead would be really cool, but I'm not sure how they'd make armor for them.
Rayea
to be honest, go in game and ask a few dosen rangers....why pick ranger?
i would bet cash (if i had any lol) that at least 40-50% would say cause they look like elves
the rest would ether be, for the pets, for the boew or cause ranger is my fave class hehe.
undead, hm...rags and bindings and funerary ornaments, asuming they are mummy ect type deddies, or maybe special ceremonial or ancient armours would probably be the way to go.
theres no real reason why the *race* groups for elves and dwarves cant be used, since they add the darkest through to the palest skins and hair types, so *technicaly* anyone can make a dwarf or elf that *looks* like thier other game faves....anyone notice all the black skinned, white haired necros? lol.....they may be Drow fans
just cause a race has been used in another game, does not mean we cant have it here, so long as it is *generic* rather than specific.
we wouldnt get Drow or Moon elves or Night Elves, but we could get elves as a basic race, and skin shades rainging from pale whiteish blue (to do sea elves, say) all the way to absolutte black (for Drow fans) and hairs to match and shades too. then a player could make thier fave elf race from anywhere, but it will *still* be just an elf
and dont say, keep it just humans cause of xxx game ect. if you dont like them other races, just dont play them if they add them

I like the addition of elves, dwarves, and charr.
I'd add scales and centaur to the list. Maybe those snake guys from the desert.
I'd rather not see grawl as playables.

I think that we should not be able to play as monsters, thats dumb(centaurs, scales).
Playing as an Undead would be tight.
Playing as an Undead would be tight.

Well a couple of good ideas there, but I believe that some of them are pretty dumb. Grawls and skales are creatures, so I doubt hose would be added. I think if there will be a new race it would be one we've at least seen before. I would love playing a Mursaat . But Charr, undead, and dwarves are reasonable assumptions in that case.
Guild Master
Maybe a grawl isn't a great idea after all for a new race.
ExplosiveBadger
The Charr thing could be like World of Warcraft. (Aliance vs. Horde) And you can see the story from they're angle with generals like Prince Rurik and there could be Charr areas of the game, not cities exactly but vilages with fires and hut kind of things. Raids would be cool too. Dwarves would't be bad either. But where would they spawn?
Ari Veyes
Cool race idea:
GHOST-Like the ones in Amnon Oasis

Races are actually probably easier to add than classes. Humans will be the baseline. Adding a new race just requires some kind of differentation, but not necessarily any new skills. Adding a new class would require a ton of new skills, which is a lot of work.
For instance:
=Humans=
Hit points: 100 + 20 / level
Energy: 20, 2 basic regen
=Dwarves=
Hit points: 150 + ( 20 / levels 1-10) + ( 30 / levels 11-20)
Energy: 10, 2 basic regen
+20 armor vs. Earth.
-20 armor vs. Water
(So, a non-linear hit point gain; when you reach level 10, you get +20 hitpoints, and when you reach level 11, you get +30 hit points.)
=Charr=
Hit points: 100 + 20 / level
Energy: 20, 2 basic regen
Gains 1 energy after activating any Attack, Stance, or Preparation skill, or casting a Fire, Air, Death, Blood, Smiting, or Domination spell. All other skills cost +1 energy to use.
=Mursaat=
Hit points: 50 + 15 / level
Energy: 25, 3 basic regen
None of those would require difficult coding. The artwork isn't unreasonable for one race per expansion pack. Balancing is a larger issue, but certainly possible. The hardest issue is the design issue of how to insert the race into the game. Do dwarves suddenly show up in Pre-Academy Ascalon? Seems unlikely. Where do they show up? How do you work them in to the Chapter 1 storyline? Maybe you don't.
Some hard questions regarding storyline. The rest is fairly easy, I think.
Mind you, those examples show a very simple way they could add interesting new races. Obviously, races could get skills associated with them, or any number of other interesting things. However, even the relatively small changes I used for examples would play very differently.
Of course, some of them are slanted towards one class or another, but so be it; it would be hard to make races that are actually different without it seeming to slant them in one direction or another, and it allows for some fun when people "go against the grain" and make a Charr Monk Healer.
Other ideas welcome, especially ones that talk about wildly different ways to do races or bring them into their story...

How about zerg.. err i mean, i like the Undead idea, could kinda be based on the UW or something but im not sure how Anet could get it to work

with races like elves, undead, and what ever... there'd be WoW fanboys all over the place screaming how GW is so cheap they rip off "The Best Game Ever"
But I mean, charr? with GW's holey storyline, they just fall off the face of the planet, its not like they do anything besides searing.

Rayea
Oh? and can i now scream that GW is just a rip off of Myth of Soma and Legend of Mir and Prince of Quin, simply cause all 3 of the games have nothing but human charaters in it?
pff....
people will claim that ANY game is a rip off of thier fave, simply cause it has anything in it, just as people claim films and stuff copy.
folks say DnD is a rip off ov Lord of the Rings, just cause it has halflings in it, which they claim are Hobits.
but the word hobit, is a yorkshire word, and means a small spirit or sprite or elf type thingy (if i remember it right) so who is copying who?
why cant we say that every game that was ever made that has anything with pointy ears or short fat blokes with beards, is copying some ancient mythology?
because if we did, there would be nothing to play other than human fights human over land games
(besides, its up to the game owners * i dont mean us, i mean A.net ect* , and they do what the guys that know how to make money tell them to. so if they say, add elves and dwarves, since everyone has gone potty about em, thats what will get added.)

I'm not sure about racial attributes. Something like that, at least with Guild Wars, would of course have to be taken very delicately.
As far as the races themselves, I don't see any of the other present races being used, as they are almost all unrefined and just thrown in there.
The Dwarves? Guild Wars Dwarves are some of the ugliest, fattest-headed Dwarves I've ever seen. And normally I like Dwarves.
The only ones I see being a cool idea is the Tengu. They of course need work too, as they're just bird men that run like ninjas. I like the idea though of a bird themed race though. It could be cool, and it's original. I'll see what sketches I can come up with.
The Charr are just stupid and goofy looking (they don't stack up to tauren at all, the race they'd kind of fill in).
The undead aren't as bad, but not up to par to what they should be for an entirely new race.
I can't imagine them just putting in white mantle/shining blade options and calling them races, so it seems they'll have to do a good amount of work with what they've got.

A few points:
1.Yes,some of the mentioned races could be pretty cool(Dwarves,Elves),just on the possibilities of a different storyline type.
2.If you make the Charr,trolls,or Grall playable then it becomes a City of Heroes/City of Villian comparison.
3.It might be hard to keep everything balanced(If undead get hit by holy damage,Gnome gets crushed be Charr,etc.)
I wouldn't really mind as long as everything stays balanced.

Another thing about races..
what if they implement races and you've already got 4 characters which would be the standard human race I guess... what if a certain race I'll just take dwarfs for example would have a certain bonus in HP or armor or something well suited for let's say a warrior.
and you have a lvl 20 PvE warrior lots of skills good equip etc.. would you have to start it all over just to change it's race to gain the racial bonus, only because it wasn't an option before ?

City of Heroes/City of Villains comparison. Hell, sometimes I wanna play a bad guy too .
If there is Grawl, Charr, and the undead will be added, I think it would be cool. These evil creatures mission/quest is like raid a town, destroy a city, bring apocalypse to entire kingdoms. And there could be like a guild battle. Imagine... a human guild(dwarf or elves) against evil creatures guild( charr, grawl, undead). the battle would look so cool.

am i the only one who noticed that GW is actually single-player based, so being able to be your enemies would be completly stupid?
this isn't WoW, where horde and alliance get diffrent monsters to fight.
but...gnomes would completly own. as well as dwarves, and elves.

go play WoW stop wasting time trying to ursurp GW into a horrible WoW mimicry
