What do you guys think of having a warrior/ranger for defense in pvp. If you put skills in tactics, and wilderness survival. You can use defensive skills with tactics but also plant traps with the ranger. I think this is good when you have to protect things like the priest and stuff. Feel free to comment.

No one is going to attack you before the priest (whether you mean actual priest or monk) so there is no need to play defense. You would be useless to your team. Besides, the best defense is a strong offense.

Traps, however, are very handy, especially Barbed Trap. But dont go with Tactics (unless you are a M/W).

trappers are good, but then you need to be a primary ranger, for expertise and runes.

a primary warrior that doesnt max his weapon is being silly.

Monk defense is good. The question you have to ask yourself is, 'what is the best tool for the job?' In the case of a Warrior/Ranger, you're going to have to dig to fill that role. Most Tactics skills only affect yourself, though there are a few noteworthy ones (Watch Yourself!, Shields Up!) that can be used defensively. Similarly, you can lay traps, but without the benefit of Expertise and with the smallest energy capacity in the game, you're going to be running yourself dry.

Another question you have to ask is 'do I want to devote an entire character to this role, or can I just take a couple of skills and fill it just as well?' You could, for example, play a Ranger/Warrior that attacks at range, but hangs back with the Monks and spams those defensive skills as needed. Or you could play a Ranger that lays some traps before heading into battle. Work all that together and you could run something like:

Expertise 10 + 3 Rune
Marksmanship 10, +1 Rune, +1 Hat
Survival 9, +1 Rune
Tactics 7

Oath Shot
Read the Wind
Whirling Defense
Barbed Trap
Flame Trap
Frenzy
Watch Yourself!
Shields Up!

That would allow you to deal a decent amount of damage from range, in addition to dropping AoE protections and defensive traps as needed.
