Character appearances- the Mesmer

This might sound a bit shallow, but I'm wanting to make a Mesmer/Monk (not a monk/mesmer) but the mesmers look so stupid! Like some cheesy Character from a superhero comic.

Any one else think they should re-work the mesmers looks?
The way my Character looks is important to me, and I seriously dont know if I can handle the mask.

The mask is the coolest part about the mesmer. They're fine the way they are. Just hope for future additions to the look.

Well, the mask is only really visible when you are in an instanced zone, and you won't really have any reason to look at the front of your character while you're in battle.

If that makes you feel any better.

If you noticed in the dialogues from NPCs mesmers are like the "fab dudes," so to speak, who worry about how they look more than anything else. Maybe there'll be some appearance changes on release even, I dunno. The mask is kinda the theme of them though in artwork and stuff. Their illusion magic too if i remember. Interesting if they change em somehow.

I think the mesmer is one of the coolest looking classes. In any case, each class has their own unique look, so I suppose you'll just have to get used to it.

So, if they...uh, sounded like a person? Radical thought, that.

I love the Mesmer, personally, and I love the mask. I think the Renaissance look is unusual and striking. Really breaks the mold from your standard "I'm a caster in robes" look. My old D&D/EQ Enchanter/future Mesmer character is named from a character from the commedia dell'arte,* and I've never seen a character model that fits her better.

*It's "Columbine," and if you see me in-game, I beg you not to tell me it's a morbid/grotesque name, that always breaks my heart. I'd been using it from 15 years before the Littleton massacre...

Ok, well I guess they'll stay as they are.

I'v only seen them in green and purple and such, all black might be pretty sweet.... In any case I'll live.

The mesmer does have a homosexual look to him, now that you mention it...
Also, he does seem to have a halloween costume look. Impossible to say...

Well if he is gay, then Areanet was probably showing their support for gay rights. Good Job ANET for loving everyone!

Shows different tastes, doesn't it? I rather like the mesmer look myself, except for that dreadful starting shirt. *shudders*. Couldn't get rid of that fast enough. Thank goodness for those collectors after Ice Lodestones near Foible's Fair.

I do agree about the mask; the domination (imposing) mask that is. Ugly, ugly thing , which is, of course, the point.

The long casting animation for the Mesmer (that little flying twirl and point thing) is really snazzy. I like it a lot. This was actually the reason I chose a Me/N over an N/Me. However, I'm going to give the N/Me a go come preview because I'm not entirely shallow.

As for the pretty-boy/girl look, going by Lady Althea, they seem to be actors and you know what they're like (typically).

I love the way my Me/Mo looks! His snazzy dress was part of the reason I picked him. And when I saw the twirl-and-point casting animation my response was an emphatic, "OMG this character rules!"

I also agree with Starflower up there about the fresh originality of the Mesmer's "Renaissance" look ... seeing my character's model inspired me to name him Ouranio Seraphimos, rather than several similiar variants I was considering, just because it sounded flamboyant, operatic, and vaguely Italian ... And the other character models are equally unique; I think a round of applause is in order for the game devs for thinking outside the RPG box.

That said, of course you can't please everyone. My wife is kinda cheesed because her elementalist looks like a cocktail waitress. But she basically just laughs it off and looks forward to getting some decent gear that actually covers her chest.

There's always dye, and you could go with a black-and-grey motif (or somerthing equally subdued) for your mesmer if flair isn't your thing. Fortunately for you the mask doesn't show up in town ... and neither do that sexually ambiguous glowing cane and tambourine-looking chakram! ... so if your mesmer is gay it'll be your own secret.

A mate of mine played as a mesmer, when he dyed the mask with silver dye it turned transparent, it was there but you couldn't see it.

I think the mesmer chicks look alright. The guys look ... off. I think they should be more Magician/Wizzardish rather than Thesbian. I wanna play a mesmer as one of my builds, but I dont want him to look like a dork. :P

Because every homosexual talks the same way, right? How do you know that the voices they have already aren't that of homosexuals? :P Might wanna narrow your generalizations down a bit.

lol, then again (and this is with 5 years theatre experience under my belt), the stereotype does hold true.

i don't know a single actor or actress who doesn't fuss over their appearance (and this applies to them in the real world and not just on stage). point being... you don't get a lot of ugly people in the theatre (at least where I work). some of the stage hands I've worked with in the past can be a bit grotesque, but of course they aren't on stage, lol.

Quoted for truth. I do miss hanging in the wings talking it up to some cute girl running the fly rails or waiting around for a scene change.

Was creating one and the girlfriend said: "Wow, whos that? They look like the Riddler."

LoL, I was tempted to rename the character after that. =)

Hell no, mesmers have got the coolest looks in the game no doubt (this is my oppinion, and you can't change it ) I'm having trouble cause I don't have enough room for both a male and female mesmer, I don't really know how to play them yet but I can't stay away simply because the looks are sooo well made and cool. If there is one thing not to be changed it's the mesmer apperance (I know that there are lots of things that are better and more needed so no need to flame me about that line )

I'd really like a choice in the style of mask to associate with the attribute. I hate the domination mask, I'd love to have a nice fast casting- or illusion stlyle mask that I could get the domination bonus with. Why does it have to be the ugliest mask....

Actually, on the male it looks sort of imposing, but the female just looks bad with it. I'm tempted to go with a mask for a different attribute, just for the look! Most classes don't give away quite as much what you are packing - monk tattoos don't change, the warrior helms all look the same, the Ranger veils change a bit but are quite similar, yet the domination mask is a big ugly Hannibal Lector style monstrosity, while the other masks are not too bad. Please, give us at least an alternate possible mask for each of the attributes!

Yeah. I use the Sleek Mask for fast-casting. Domination is too nasty for me. I'm kinda fond of my face and I like to show it off. :P

Finally someone who agrees with me. I don't think all the faces are good, but a couple are, as are a couple of the hairstyles. And...I'm actually REALLY fond of the Starter shirt. I dislike the shirts later in the game, they make you look like you have a belly, and the pants, aside from the rip in the crotch of Performer's, are really nice.

Oh-My-God Male mesmers are like soo fabulous. Like totaly!

Male mesmers are drag queens in training. You can not get much uglier then a male mesmer. When I bought my pre-order and looked through that little booklet and saw the male mesmer, I laughed so hard. Seriously, what was A.Net thinking? They should have gone with a wizard/magician look, a big tall pointy hat and such...

Monk = Kung Fu Master without any Kung Fu.
Mesmer = Irish River dance champion.
Warrior = Mike Tyson in full body armour. (or an overweight bodybuilder when wearing gladiator outfit)
Elementalist = Teenage Fashion victim. (The female outfits look like they are going to a disco and the male outfits look like they are going to the blue oyster bar. )
Necromancer = Bondage Guy with crippling disabilities.
Ranger = erm actually Looks like one would imagine a ranger to look like. ( By far the best looking class)

Wish they had just called Monks, priests and then we could have had a real Monk class in an expansion, a Kung Fu master monk, with skills like stunning strike, Cobra strike, Judo Reversal, 100 Kicks etc. Basically an alternative to warriors as a Tank.

What I don't like about male mesmer appearance is that he has more muscles than a warrior. If he's to appear as an actor I expected him to be more slender.
Of course the worst thing ever about male mesmers is their lame dance (and lame flex).

Anyway, I think the enchanter's set (the one most use due to the energy bonus) looks more like a sailor's. Some of the other sets look really good but I'm not about to give upo my energy to look better. The solution came with the new grafics for the ascended (15k) enchanter's armor. Dyed all black is one of the best looking in the game imo, if not the best.

I love the mesmer looks, style and dance.

I also like the fact that in PvE with my dom mask on I have an excuse for not moving my lips
