Tanned Hides...

Greetings All,

I was wondering if someone more experienced than I could shed some light on a crafting question...

I understand how to salvage hides but am unsure as to how to obtain/craft the tanned hides required for Ranger armor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nope. You just salvage armour (or just find them from a drop) as hides and they are perfectly usable.

Keep in mind, you don't have to raise any sort of "crafting" type attribute to make stuff. Just take it to the best crafter (furthest outpost or otherwise best stats) and give him some gold and materials.

So tanned hides are salvaged items from other armor? Am I understanding you correctly?

The hides you obtained from salvaging is the SAME as Tanned Hide....its probably a typo we're seeing in the game.

The quickest way to verify is open up the crafter window, and check if you have the material requirements fulfilled. If the text is in white, that means you have enough, if in red, you know you'd need that particular material.

While in-game I've had more than enough "hides" in my inventory but yet I still see the "tanned hides" text in red.

Should I chalk this up as a bug?

Hides are a salvagable item, generally dropped by char. Use a salvage kit on them, and you'll get 1 or 2 tanned hides in return. Hope that helps.

This has happened to some people as well, usually when their materials have been split into different stacks. My guess is that they've been changing the item values of crafting materials every BWE, but haven't been updating the pre-existing ones in player's inventory and therefore some materials are no longer valid for crafting. Hopefully this problem should never happen now that we'll be playing from a clean slate.

Hides = Tanned Hides. The crafters say you need Tanned Square Hides or something I remember, but Hides haven't been changed from their names yet. So just treat both as the same for now.

I'm not 100% sure but I think that they must have made some changes with the items between the two BWE. The items that I had from the March BWE did not combine with the items that I found in the April BWE.
