ecto and shards

how to get those rare crafting materials? what can i salvage them from?

Ecto => UW

Shards => Fissure

Never got any of them after salvage.

and there are those materials simply dropped from monsters?

Yep, just in those 2 regions, Fissure and UW.

Ectoplasm and Obsidian are required in large amounts to craft the 15k armor sets at the Eternal Forge in the Fissure of Woe. There's no difference in stats between this armor and the 1.5k Droknar's Forge armor, but it does look cooler for the most part, and is basically a symbol of prestige for wealthy players.
