Yes. I've decided to revisit old Ascalon City again for the first time in a long while. I was enjoying the wasted scenery, reminiscing with good ol' Captain Arne and walking the streets, when my relaxing meanderings were shattered, this message on the Chat channel thrown like a brick through the window of my mind. I thought, what the hell, I might as well see if this...person, has anything i could use for my dear Warrior. I got a whisper of many good items. Good, if by chance you are a one handed River Skale with a cashflow problem. None of the 'weponz' offered could even be remotely considered 'l33t' or 'r0x0r', even using the most warped and illogical of all logic. His 'feiry Swordz' weren't even Fiery Dragon Swords. 10k, for something not max damage? With, i might add, no bonus what-so-ever, other than the upgrade? I might add that this person, although hawking wares in Ascalon, was not a newbie who is not quite clued into the GW economy and sales yet, but rather a level 20, and judging by his armour, Ascended character.

Has Item selling gone down hill so much in dear Ascalon? Has the market crumbled and the black market of corruption and scamming arisen through a barely acceptable coup? Is the City Guard doing nothing?! Where is Warmaster Tydus!!! He's been kidnap...oh no, just off to my left by the fountain...as usual...

It's either that, or 'Über l33t r0x0r weponz' have fallen on bad times...

It worries me to see the increase in these messages. What bothers me more is that i have the Trade Channel turned off, and i still get plagued by those hawking their...wares..GW needs a new trade system. An Auction house, a message board in all major cities where players can post their items they would like to sell...hm, might take this to the Suggestion boards.


Oh, and to the author of that trade message: It's 'Weapons'.

Turn off trade.

Trying to sell a lot of good/"godly" stuff at one time is quite frustrating. I have about 4 lines of spam I am trying to put out and they include "no offer = no response" or "be specific" and I get tons of "1k for unid sup vigor" or "how much for gold bow?". The illiteracy sickens me really.. so I have toned down what I keep. Usually I out morons in public, "XXX XXX learn to read moron" or "XXX XXX is a scammer". Really, how stupid people are is quite amazing... "WTS (non max) GOLD *insert weapon type here* of enchanting +11% just 100K and 35 ectoplasm".. I just ignore people a lot if they don't read my whole spam and if they annoy me I curse them out in public ^^

some can be quite silly..I had one guy asking in Lions where he could get Dwayna's Kiss. Jokingly I said he could get it from Dwayna. He responded:"Yeah. But where?"
simply didn't respond to that one.

I got a laugh out of a guy in Droknor's the other day selling "godly" steel ingots. I asked him what was "godly" about them - he said he was sik of all the other "godly" items out there and wanted his own to seel lol

The sad thing... doing that sort of crud works.

I've spent my fair share of time selling things. As I don't really farm much (or at all) I only get a few drops every now and then that are worth something to someone besides the merchant. Thus I would like to be able to sell my few golds for a reasonable price to help fund my game play. Hence I am greeted with a certain ambivalence when I see a gold item drop, a mix between, "whoohoo!" and "man, I'm going to have to deal with LA to sell this thing." So I goto LA and type things like "wts max gold sword + 14% >50, +ench, + ..". Nothing. Let's try again, "WTS MAX GOLD SWORD, GREAT MODS!". Now I start getting a few whispers, but all the offers are low. Biting my lip I decide to channel the evil netspeak spirt, "|||||||| WTS GODLY GOLD SWORD! MUST SEE, IT R0XX0RZ ||||||" More whispers, now I'm getting some high offers too. So I start using it for lots of things, "||| WTS GOLDY UNIDED MINOR MESMER RUNE |||" and suddenly I get whispered.

So the moral, selling in this game is a painful experience from start to end. But being obnoxious and saying "godly" /actually/ increases my chances of selling an item, even if it's nothing special.

Sad but true.

The other day I tried to undercut the market. I got two dozen maxed out collectors swords and started giving them away. I had trouble giving them away. But people trying to sell GOLD 14-21 swords weren't having any trouble.

I tried PMing some of those people, explaining that they were ripping people off. One openly acknowledged it (If they'll buy it, why not?). The rest were like "Hey, it's GOLD, that makes it worth it." Or "MAX DAMGE ONN SWRDS SI 13-20 N00BLING."

Worse than that - one of my guildies was trying to *give away* some pretty decent weapons - and go no responses - until he started saying that they were "GODLY" - then people actually responded....

It was kinda funny. No, he did not mislead anyone - at first he was stating exactly what it was, what damage, etc - he used the same exact description with the word "GODLY" added to finally give them away

yeah its horrible. I cant fathom how or why to jump into the trade economy or why someone else would want to. It is plagued with ... (whats the opposite of godly?) ...

this, my friends, is just sad. not a little bit, but just the kind that makes your mouth fall open.

What else is sad is trying to sell a zealous bowstring/pommel/axehaft/hammer grip and having people tell me that 1/-1 isn't good. They won't buy it.

The idiots think it's a vampiric or have the number mixed up.

I salvage everything for the materials. Max Gold Fiery Dragon Sword -> Salvage for steel...I'm not about to waste my time or my patience on the morons in LA and Ascalon. it's not worth the 5 plat 6 plat 50 plat, not to me....I'd rather take my steel and move on.

it funny that most people is ascalon spam the message of "WTS fiery dragon sword.. or l33t godly swords, hammers" You can hardly team up with people who looking for help for quests or missions.

And here I thought "godly" was dead and buried with "Godly Plate of the Whale." Boy was I wrong.
