Primary Mesmer here wondering how best to deal damage with secondary Elem. (water). This is for PvE situations where I want to pass on some DMG to enemies. Obviously Ghostly Visage illusion. But also, I see a lot of people put focus into their elem. side and give up many mes skills. I dont want to do this. I was thinking about adding simply one water elem skill to my list to slow enemies. Then I could use chaos storm to damage them while they are trapped. This could also do damage through the water skill for a double whammy. Then I would throw on the 5dmg DoT (visage) and work my other skills(whenever needed)

Is this the best way to deal damage while staying true to my primary mesmer love? Many thanks!

Ice Spikes would be good to slow someone down for your one water skill.

You mentioned chaos storm in the title but never in the post.. but, it is a good skill.. i used it a lot before i decided only to focus on Illusion magic for my mesmer secondary. It has a bit of a small radius, but it is good for PvE when monsters dont really move around much.

Mesmers do have a pretty wide variety of skills, and with the low energy, it would be smart not to use a bunch of Ele skills.

You really don't need to use slow skills to keep PVE foes in your chaos storm, it's radius is far larger than the graphic, and if your party is smart (or follows orders) they'll keep the monsters in it.

Also, chaos dmg spells like chaos storm get better as the game progresses, when monsters have more armor. Against many late game creatures, a chaos storm will be more damaging than a fire storm. However, chaos storm is not the only way (or best way) to deal damage as a mesmer. My mesmer damage build uses arcane echo, energy surge, energy burn, chaos storm, and SHATTER HEX (best nuke in the game), along with power drain and energy tap from inspiration. These spells taken together will make you a more damaging nuker than any elementalist (though without the side benefits like knockdown and such.)

Arcane echo is best used on shatter hex if the enemy uses hexes, otherwise use it on surge.

Arcane echo is best used on shatter hex if the enemy uses hexes, otherwise use it on surge. I use a very similar build with my mesmer. The armor ignoring damage + massive radius of Energy Surge= Very good late game PvE damage.
