Hey I am interested in buying guild wars once it releases and was wondering, what is the most played profession? Least? Or even better a list of the most played down to the least played.

Thanks

ive seen polls regaurding this.

rangers were the most played, but not by much
necros and monks were towards the botton of the list, but not by much.

the spread in %'s from top to bottom wasnt greater than 10%.
so its fairly balanced thruout the lands on primairy character types.

This is a very hard thing to judge, I would expect most to say something different so ill just say that all are in equal proportions, however I would say that monk is by far the most common secondary class

I've looked through many polls and many sites, and found that Rangers are very popular, Necromancers however are a different story.

Rangers are so highly used, because they can attack at range,(even though Markmanship has gotten much worse) Expertise is the best overall attribute in Guild Wars and for some odd cause, people like the idea of a pet. However I still believe that pets are terribly annoying, especially when you have to revive them.

Necromancers aren't so popular because they do less direct damage then any other class accept for Mesmer. Some strange phenomena causes humans to like direct damage, it's one of our epic mysteries. But you might be a wee bit confused because Mesmer all doesn't do direct damage, well Mesmer isn't neglected as much because it can shut down casters and many people know, Mesmers are really very useful.

You might wanna check the numerous other threads on this subject like this one.

depends if you want to know the most played PRIMARY profession, rather than both primary and secondary.

This would be my guess for most played to least played in GuildWars.

1. Warrior (Just easy to play!)
2. Ranger (Everyone wants to be Legolas!)
3. Elementalist (I want a boomstick!)
4. Monk (I want to help!)
5. Mesmer (I want to be different!)
6. Necro (I want to be evil and I don't care if I suck!)

My main concern right now is that I want to be a useful profession. My two main choices were a monk and a necromancer. Are necromancers useful/needed in groups?

Edit: I was reading around, is it possible to be a necromancer that also heals?

People can do builds that do the funtion of the secondary class ie. Elmo's, Eln, N/M, etc.

Why doesn't much people like Necro's as a main class. This is making me start to reconsider about having my first char when the game comes out to be a necro.

PvE its fine dont worry much. PvP however your soulreaping will never come into play...so why not be like a Ele/nec and have more mana or Mes/Nec to cast all those long spell longer.

although the polls say differently, i get the idea that warriors are the most popular; especially warrior/monks. In the Arenas, it's sometimes absolutely crazy. 75% of a team being warriors is not an exception at all. Of course, this would be an understandable phenomenon, as there is only one melee profession to date. Anxiously awaiting Rogue.

I'm thinking about being an Ele/Necro or something like that now.

It doesn't really matter how popular the class is. Play what YOU enjoy. Not what others want you to be. Necromancer is fine, but it's only flaw is it's primary skill usage is kinda useless (Soulreaping). If you want a full Necromancer go with Elementalist/Necromancer just for the Energy Storage skill. I went with Necromancer as my primary only because I liked the armor and said, "to hell with what anyone thinks i'll do whatever the crap I want." I have made builds that have made him extremely useful and will be making a thread in the campfire section releaseing my builds to the public, because I am now going to be a 100% ranger. I made a fun build for ranger and thats what I plan to be for FUN.. not what others think.

I think necromancers were once an underplayed class but I've been seeing a lot more of them lately. Monks aren't all that rare - but they get snatched up very quickly. Rangers and Warriors are probably the most common.

Don't use the arena to judge this. In other areas of the game you won't see 75% W/Mo, but they are self-sufficient when dealing with unorganized arena teams. This means that they do well in the arena, and so the numbers are skewed there.

Yes, if you go with a monk for your secondary profession.
