I have now been playing several hours and have done a few quests and explored a bit, I still have over 10 quests I can do in the small area behind the wall and I have only explored about half of it, I am now level 6 and was basically wanting to know at what level-ish will I finish all the quests in the starting area and are they integral to the games main plot?

Well most people seem to finish/agree that you should finish at level 6/7. Some people choose to leave the starting area at lower levels like level 3, or even as low as 1 or 2. Others choose to leave much later, at level 9 or 10. I've even seen someone at level 14 in the starting area. It's up to you, basically. Most of the characters I take through there typically leave at level 8, sometimes level 9. I wouldn't rush for the sake of rushing if I were you, though. Unless that's your idea of fun...
As to the importance of the quests, the majority of the quests have little to do with the main plot. What most of them are for is familiarising you with the various controls and features, as well as establishing an aura of 'normality' around Pre-Searing Ascalon. The only quest chain that seems to have any relevance whatsoever is that which follows Vatlaaw Doomtooth, the Charr found behind the wall.

Yeah I finally got a name - although i cant remember it
- Anyway i think i will do a bit more behind the wall before i decided to continue my adventure to the main part of the game,
Also would levelling as high as 14-15 in the starting area make the game too easy - in effect making the character "god-like" for the early part of the game?

- Show that you have more patience than God
- Show that you have an embarrassing amount of time to spend playing the game
- Make you pretty much indestructible until you got out of Ascalon in Post-Searing
- Drive you completely ******* insane from total tedium
- Make other players in Pre-Searing either worship your feet or laugh at you
In any case, you don't want to do it. You'd probably end up shooting yourself. Although you'd have a lot of money from the billions upon billions of worthless drops. In fact, the person in question had literally hundreds of dyes on him/her, which would probably fetch a pretty penny if they ever left Pre-Searing.

You should finish presearing at level 7-8 when you complete all your quests there, and there is really no point to staying longer, as the creatures you are fighting give you no experience then (unless you are above the northern wall which is tedious to get xp with a group of 2 there). so once you get your missions done and have explored to your hearts content, leave presearing.
A little tip, by the way. Try not to take quests early on. At such low levels, killing monsters can allow you to level up at a phenomenal rate. If you just explore, chart the map and go to all the towns without taking any quests, and killing everything along the way, you'll level up so fast you won't know what hit you. If you just rely on monsters for your first 5 or 6 levels, and THEN start doing the quests, you'll finish up with a higher level without actually spending a whole lot more time doing it.

The game will be alot more personal to you if you stay in Pre-Sear and complete all the available quests....You'll see alot of familiar faces later in the game and you'll actually know who they are. Even characters that play just a tiny little part in post-searing, you'll start to think "OMG THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO JOE INSIGNIFICANT!!"..
