What a Difference 1 Sword Can Make

If you've read my "What am I doing wrong" post here about my unhappiness with my weak warrior, you know I wasn't doing much damage with the sword drop I got in the game.

Well, no more!

Last night, I purchased a Fiery Dragon Sword from someone for 250 gold. No bonuses on it, just a straight 14-19 damage. That's almost 2 times the damage that my previous sword was doing, but the advantage of my previous sword was it came with a bunch of health and other bonus stuff-this one just does the damage, nothing more.

Anyway, this new sword is regularly doing 30-60 points of damage per hit, which brings up my question-

If it says 14-19, and I customized it for an additional 20% damage, it should only be doing about 18-23 damage, right? How is it doing 30-60 points of damage each hit? Is it because I have 9 on my swordsmanship attribute, and the sword only requires 7?

I'm very happy with my warrior now, lol.

I think that's pretty much it. That, and your overall level. This has some explanations: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...nics-id674.php

If you're hitting Ice Golems or something with it, by the way, they will definitely take extra damage because such creatures don't like fire damage. I think that fire damage is actually doubled on ice monsters.

Oh, be prepared for a flurry of people telling you how crap Fiery Dragon Swords are. You can safely ignore them.

Thanks, for the advice-appreciate it. For the price I paid, and the sudden glee I get going on every mission, it's safe to say I WILL ignore the naysayers.

ummm if you already got to 9 there are collector items in the desert that are max damage, (15-22) and offer some bonus's in stance/while enchanted, let me see if I have the materials to get you one, free of charge,

<-- Kalaris Runeblade in Game

and for PvE "Firy Dargon sowrds" are fine... in upper tier PvP I'd be calling you a noob =P

I'm slacking off at work at the moment, but I'll be home at about ummm 6est if you want one free.

<edit>

I have plent of free matierals laying about to make the following :

Long sword
(slashing dmg:15-22, +15dmg while in stance, req. 9 swordsmanship)

It looks like the "Rinblade" you get from some of the quests (like piken square)

you can salvage one of the upgrades from your old sword using an Expert Salvage kit as long as it wasn't a collectors item or an item recieved from completing a quest...which you said it wasn't. You have no choice as to which upgrade you get (or if you'll even get one) but its worth a try if you aren't using the sword anymore. Then you can apply the upgrade you liked from your old sword to your new sword.

For Swords it's either a Hilt or a Pommel.

Caelus The Fallen: I actually had no idea you couldn't change the hilt on a Dragon Sword. thanks

Its worth noting, however, that you cant change the hilt on a Dragon Sword.

You CANT change the hilt because thats the whole point of it being a FIERY dragon sword, it already hast a fiery hilt on it which CANT be changed.

Wow, thanks for the offer! I work 2 jobs, so unfortunately, I won't be home until around 11PM (EST). But I'll definitely be on after 11pm or tomorrow after 8pm.
Appreciate the offer!

To correct a misstatement above, it does not give a bonus if your swordsmanship rating is 9 while the req for the sword you are using is 7. If the req were 8 or 9, you'd be doing the same damage. You do, however, have higher damage if you have a 9 swords rating rather than a 7 or 8 swords rating. The important distinction is to compare relative swordsmanship (or other attribute) ratings to each other, not what they are in relation to the req on a weapon -- as long as you meet the req for a weapon, you're good.
