What sort of price.....

OK - bit of a contraversial question here.

I've got quite a few weapons, items etc. to sell off, but don't know what sort of price to offer them at on the trade channel.

Materials, runes and dyes are easy to get a figure for. You just go to the trader, look at the selling price, get a quote, and offer the item for somewhere in between. No problem.

But what about weapons? Is there a sort of price ladder for weapons, shields or weapon upgrades anywhere?

Case in point: Go to Lion's arch, and watch the trade channel. Guaranteed, someone will be offering a Max Dmg Firey Dragon Sword (not purple, gold, or with any bonus) for anything between 10k and 50k Upgrades are even more difficult. How can peopl go around selling +21 health bow grips of fortitude for 15k when I've seen max dmg bows with similar upgrades sell for less?

On the other hand, go to Ascalon (or even just stay in Lions Arch)and try selling a perfectly good item, and you get haggled when you offer your Gold Max Dmg [insert item here] for 2k

I've tried looking on the several GW auctions around, but they seem to have the same sellers who are selling at Lions Arch, and as there are no bids, it's not really indicative of a potentially decent price.

Sorry if this comes across as a rant. I consider myself to be a good player, but when it comes down to entrpeneurial know-how, I'm a total n00b! Any of the more experienced traders willing to offer advice? More to the point, is my shock at the price of some of these items limited to me, or do other players feel that some traders are pricing at extortionate amounts?

alot of this is due to people already having a weapon, and just want the upgrade, so the upgrade already being applied diminish's the value.

I also seem to be at a lost for most item pricing, but I have found that if you go to somewhere say Lion's Arch, and offer an item for sale for a certain price, that your interested in, and you get lots of people interested in buying, raise the price, if nobody answers, you can try lowering the price, or try selling at a later time.

ps. I also remember Gaile saying something somewhere here about A-net working on an auction, house can't remember where that thread was but i'll go look. Anyway, you may want to try holding out to see if their is an auction house coming with the summer update

They don't going round selling they just waste their own time and chat bandwidth asking stupid prices for junk. Personally I have given away 20/21/22 Fortitude upgrades rather than waste my time trying to find someone who will buy them for the few hundred gold they are worth.

As for finding the worth of items try browsing the trade forums here.

the price weapons/upgrades go for is based entirely around how much someone is willing to pay. Depending on your situation there are two options. Price low and move the item quickly....or price high and spend hours spamming the trade channel until you find someone dumb enough to spend 15K for your POS +21 Fortitude Grip...Alot of the players you see selling stuff in the trade channel are players that have nothing to do in their life other than play GW...so they have hours upon hours to sit in town and hope to get 15K for their +2 Energy Staff Head. If you've got something people want they will whisper you with offers. Ultimately it all comes down to how much you want to sell the item for....and how much time you want to waste selling it. Just keep in the back of your mind that every minute you spend in town trying to sell your upgrade/weapon is a minute you aren't out in the world enjoying the game.

P.S. Often times unidentified weapons can sell for more money. Equip the weapon and check for the obvious upgrades such as zealous/fortitude/vampiric...if you watch the numbers the weapon is putting out you can also make a good guess as to whether or not its Ebon/Fiery/Icy/Shocking....however the best upgrades like 20/20 recharge and Sundering won't be easy to determine unless you've played the game for 15,000 hours...but if you can advertise, for example, "WTS Unidentified Fiery Shortbow of Fortitude +25" you'll get people offering alot more for the weapon.

Thanks for the replies guys and gals. It's good to see that I'm not alone in the big price wars....but just as a rule, is there any sort of consensus on how much an item should be priced at?

Algren - I'm very much a "Sell low, shift item quick" sort of person (I just want to get on with the game), but I'm buggered if I'm going to flog a gold max dmg firey dragon sword to some n00b in Ascalon for 130gp and a bottle of purple dye :-D
