Definition please?

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but as Guild Wars is my first RPG since Diablo 2 *shudder* and early Runescape, and it's come up MANY times in the past few days, I'd like to know something...

What precisely does UAS stand for and what is it?

I've gathered that it's related to PvP and scrimmaging, but beyond that is a haze to me.

I'd really like to know so I don't feel like quite so much of a dolt when I read all this "I WANT UAS!" stuff :P

UAS = Unlock All Skills

Back in the Beta Weekends if you created a PvP only character you could Unlock All the Skills for use on that PvP only character.

So when you hear ppl talking about UAS or whining because there's no more UAS button... they are talking about something the dev's put into the beta's to ensure that all the skills could be tested and balanced during that time. (not that they were perfect at testing and balancing them.. thats another whole issue).

Course this lead to people being used to UAS.. and when the game went commercial... there was no UAS.. and they whined and complained and moaned about it... and thus we have the faction system now. (the dev's response to the whinging... which just lead to more whinging about the faction system... LOL but thats a whole different issue really)

there's a whole slew of arguments for and against UAS.. and I'm not going to go into it. This post just fills in some background story concerning UAS.. heh (so please no flames on me.. I'm taking niether side.. just explaining whats up with all of this)

To me the idea of a UAS seems silly outside of an alpha/beta environment. One of the points of having PvP characters being limited to what skills you've unlocked on PvE characters is to go PLAY the rest of the game and find and unlock the skills you need... no UAS needed IMO...

If memory serves, UAS was only available during ONE beta event, not all of them. I could be mistaken in this though and i'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong
