Currently testing this build type out. Don't have all the skills yet but what I do have seems to be pretty effective thus far.

R/E Frost Bite Fang Beast User
stats: 10+2 beast, 9+1 expertise, 10 water magic, 7+1 marksmanship

first goal - PvE: Long lasting high dmg tank [pet centered]

Read the Wind
Lightning Reflexes [Tiger's Fury nerfs this skill build]
Ferocious Strike {E}
Brutal Strike
Comfort Animal
Call of Protection
Charm Animal
Conjure Frost

Using all passive skills to augment your bow damage a few notches, you won't have to worry much about yourself recasting attacks. The pet gets a good level of longevity due to Comfort and Protection. The Ferocious Strike can feed either the Comfort Animal if your pet is under heavy fire, or Brutal Strike for some heavy hitting finishing blows.

other goal - PvP: Offensive Tank Warrior Displaced [with disruption].

Distracting Shot
Penetrating Attack
Ferocious Strike {E}
Maiming Strike
Comfort Animal
Call of Haste
Charm Animal
Armor of Mist

The pet itself behaves like the preorder guide on offensive tank warriors. After some speculation, this build should easily deal dmg, disrupt attempts at hard hitting spells, chase and contain targets, and allow good defense backed by FAST repositioning. This PvP build has both you and your pet running and moving as a coordinated team. One key is to use yourself to get chased, have your pet Call of Haste into Maiming Strike, then Ferocious Strike and Penetrating Attack them from front and back. Ouch. If the enemy decides to ignore you and your pet, so much the better. You can disrupt their skills, rip though their armor, and your pet uses them as a scratching post. All the while you're ready to up and run at a moment's notice with Armor of Mist.

Ideas at augmenting this build? Thus far, the traditional hex/conditions seem like an easy way to stuff this build [unless it's on you instead of your trusty pet, then it's no problem at all]

Your Ranger role? Tear through armor, disrupt spells, and MOVE move move.
Your Pet Role? Catch and contain your enemy to efficiently tag team from two sides.

I was thinking of using Melandru's Assault somehow... Hmm... I don't want to not put a skill that doesn't use at least one of my stats. But that could just be me with wishful thinking. Each build uses at least 1 skill that takes advantage of one of the stats ^_^

might i suggest call of protection and symboitic bond on the pvp build you mentioned? not exactly sure where you'd fit it in but i believe its needed.

your animal alone wont have the best defense, i believe it could use some extra. CoP should be a staple in any BM build IMO. as for symbiotic bond, you could pass that up as its not truely needed.

as much as i like your optimism with your pet, alas he doesnt change target very fast. it would usually take a good 5 seconds at least if he's already engaged on another target.

i'd take out maiming strike and use brutal strike. i have finished off many a person (warriors included) with that single attack. i caught a warrior trying to use heal sig when he was at about 1/5th health....my brutal strike did +76 damage

if you plan on distrupting as your pet does your damage, loose penetrating shot. at 8 marksmanship, you wont be using your bow to full effectiveness (and pre-made pvp weapons have a 9 req in attributes). maybe take a side order of domination magic instead of water? unless you'd rather snare your targets with some water spells and let fluffy use em as a scratching post?

although if you stay as water, bring along maelstrom for the area spell interruption.

well i'm done ranting, tis late and i'm still awake -.-. there might be a few things i overlooked, but anywho i'd like to see your reply

I'm not sure how you can see your pet's damage. I sure can't.

I've run Call of Haste instead of Protection because in every single fight I've been in in random or team arena. People just ignore the pet completely. When he does come under AoE, I find myself mashing Comfort Animal but AoE in PvP is usually easy to see coming. When that ele is waving his hands for 3s. Distracting shot goes down his throat...

That and I've fought lots of 'self interested morons' who bring skills to allow them to just RUN RUN RUN when their whole team is dead. Call of Haste makes my pet literally eat them alive with Maiming Strike. Thankfully, Ferocious Strike {E} does a nice enough chunk of damage.

I'm wondering, do pets crit? I can't see their damage except on the enemy's hp bar and even then I don't get the numerical yellow # that pops up when the pet hits.

*edit*

I suppose losing Penetrating Attack for Brutal Strike would end up with me using a nice hard hitting skill. Nice suggestion! the 8 Marksmanship isn't used for the default pvp weapons. I have an 8 marks req. max dmg bow so it's ok.

This may coincide with your whole build's point, but using smiting skills and buffing your pet makes it even more powerful; I've yet to see any R/Mo beast mastery build attempted.

well you cant see your pet crit, but i do belive he does.

as for knowing how much damage he does, its a toss up. that +76 damage i mentioned was due to brutal strike (+19 damage at 14 BM, another +19 if under 50% health) and caught him with -40 armor when using heal sig, if it was an extra 76 damage, if at least was over 60 since he dropped right after my pet connected .

well for those runners i play "drop the rock" on em . after being knocked down with meteor, lining them up with brutal strike while they're getting up is quite nice. and it also allows the rest of my team to catch up very very soon, if not immediately.
