A salvage kit can be used to gain common crafting materials out of items. You generally gain more crafting materials out of an item that says 'salvage item' then out of a weapon if you salvage it.

there are regular salvage kits which are either 50gold (?) or 100gold, the cheaper one has less uses.
Also there are expert salvage kits which cost 500gold and are used for salvaging runes, pommels, hafts, etc.

dont they cost 400gold ? anyhow if anything says highly salvageable i suggest you use expert kit as it will be more likely to get more materials or even a rare material

Yes the expert kits are 400 gold, and the low use salvage kit is only 40g

salvage kits
100 gold = 25 uses
40 gold = 10 uses

Thats right Chillin. And i suggest that you use expert salvage kits on armour with more then 25 armour, Because they give alot of rare mats,

Well looks like your question has been answered. BTW you can trade things like Battle/Imperial Commendations for kits if you want...superior salvage kit actually costs more per salvage than expert, but it saves room
