Screen- Flickery
Ashleigh McMahon
Hello there.
I just installed gw on my pc( uninstalled a week or so), and when I play the game, my screen starts flickering.
Most times the flicker effects my skill bar, and below my character.
Other times, the flicker makes covers my map up.
Please can someone tell me how too fix this?
I've tried changing my resolution, turned of shadow effects, still nothing happening.
Help, Please?
Edit: It works fine when it's not full screen, but the graphics are not as good like that
Regards, Ashleigh.

so it works fine when you're playing in a window mode...but "flickers" when you play full screen....sounds like a RAM problem. Any chance you can post RAM Size and Type as well as Video Card and Power Supply(wattage). If your motherboard has a monitor utility or you know how to read your BIOS could you tell us your RAM voltage settings?
also you may want to run a Memory Test to make sure your RAM is functioning correctly MemTest

I have 128 ram.
I got it working in game, by upgrading the textures and stuff... but when I view my map and character creation, it still flickers.
It also flicker when I load.

you're really low on RAM...How often you reboot your computer is going to be very very important. I assume you're running Windows 2000 or 98? I would suggest upgrading your RAM. You can put 512 into your machine for around $50 US.
but definately go run a MemTest...you might have overstressed your RAM..

what version of the nVidia drivers are you running? I had alot of trouble with my 5500 because of how graphic intense GW is.
3DMark03
run a benchmark test on your video card. The 5500 should be pulling about 800-1000 marks. If you're under 800 you got a video card related problem.

972.
I don't see why this is happening, I was playing perfect a week ago.

I had the exact same thing happen to me a week or so ago - It was fine, then my old monitor blew up, and with the new monitor I got the flickers.
Real pain as I couldn't warp anywhere using the map, and couldn't create any new characters as the screen was obscured.
Have you by any chance switched monitors lately?
I'm not exactly sure how I resolved it, but I think it was something to do with the refresh rate on the monitor.
If all else fails, try shutting down the comp & unplugging/reconnecting the monitor - it seemed to work for me.

Try changing your refresh rate of your monitor: Right click your desktop and select Nvidia properties and try and find the tab where you can set your refresh rate. Set it to the lowest setting.
try getting the latest forcewear drivers for your video card.here.
if that doesn't work, try defragging your harddrive, if you're not sure how to do that;
Start>Programs>Accesories>System Tools>Disk Defragmenter
(I'm on my Windows2000 work comp, it may vary a bit in XP but I'm pretty sure it's close)
Good luck, and post if none of this helps, I'll be on this forum all day hehe.
