Me/W

So I have been doing PvP quite a bit and certain build has caught my eye. I see a few people using R/W and using a sword. So I have decided to try it out and I just started the RP character. I plan on using throw dirt, apply poison, sever artery, gash and whatever stances to evade and avoid getting hit. Does anyone have any expierence with this type of character? If so please tell me the build that works the best.

P.S. I am having a toss up between Expertise or Wilderness. Any ideas?

Your question I can answer. You WANT Expertise. Any ranger worth their salt will punch expertise to at LEAST 7+1 [and even then, that's a crappy level, 10 is my bare minimum for this stat] 40% cheaper skills is ALWAYS good. At 13, it's 52% cheaper. I don't like going that high though but the skills with Expertise that high and a single energy management skill will be easy to do... ^_^

Melee Rangers are counter productive. Since they can't rip through armor the way Str. warriors do, they're stuck spamming skills at close range. With the 2nd highest armor rating in the game, a warrior, who's designed for close range fighting will eat you.

Rangers are ranged fighters. Does the name mean anything anymore? :\ Rangers with Warrior Stances/Shouts, like Frenzy or Charge! {E}, that's good.

I was playing around with one that did alright in the arenas. Of course, having a good team helps any build, but this one's alright:

Swordsmanship
Expertise
Wilderness Survival

Sever Artery
Gash
Final Thrust/Riposte/Deadly Riposte (interchangeable)
Hamstring
Apply Poison
Throw Dirt
Whirling Defense
Melandru's Resilience (E)

Now, I know Victory is Mine!, an elite Warrior Tactics skill, is somewhat better than Mel's Resilience, since it's more flexible, but that'd mean lowering Wilderness to raise Tactics. It may be doable, but I wouldn't.

Use whatever armor you want, but if you don't use Druid's, a focus of some kind in your off-hand would help a bit with energy.

I've found that this build is reasonably successful, though a good domination mesmer or hammer warrior will give you a headache.

That really doesn't use the Ranger primary to effect. You're basically justifying your primary by saying that Apply Poison needs the extra energy. Most R/W use Tiger's Fury (To make up for the absence of the strength attribute), as well as *Energy Attack Skills*, which are the whole point of why expertise is so useful.
