Hello everyone, I have a level 20+ character that is a Me/R and i would like to use her for Pvp As well, but dont know where to start. I use and would like to keep using domination so that i get skills like backfire, energy burn, and chaos storm. but also think that it would be cool to use traps - cause they can be nasty and help protect my teammates while disableing the enemy casters. so what i am thinking is:
Domination 11+4 (+3 for superior rune and +1 for mask)
Inspiration 10+1 (+1 minor rune)
Fast Casting 9+1 (+1 minor rune)
Wilderness Survival 7
Backfire:For 10 seconds, whenever target foe casts a spell that foe takes 35-119 damage
Energy Drain:Steal 8-18 Energy from target foe
Barbed Trap:When Barbed Trap is triggered, all foes in the area take 20..56 piercing damage, become Crippled, and begin Bleeding for 3..21 seconds. Barbed Trap ends after 90 seconds. While activating this skill, you are easily interrupted.
Chaos Storm:Create a Chaos Storm at target foe's location. For 10 seconds, enemies near this location suffer 5..12 damage each second. Chaos Storm drains 1..6 Energy whenever it strikes a foe casting a spell.
Energy burn: Target foe loses 4..9 Energy and takes 8 damage for each point of Energy lost
Energy tap:Steal 8..13 Energy from target foe
Spirit Shackles: For 8..24 seconds, target foe loses 5 Energy whenever that foe attacks
Wastrel's Worry: After 3 seconds, target foe takes 8..53 damage. Wastrel's Worry ends prematurely if that foe uses a skill.

change energy burn for energy surge and swap spirit shackles for troll ungent.
Instead of energy drain you can use arcane echo which works well with anything especially chaos storm

Well, the problem is that the skills you have seem to have no relation whatsoever to each that, there is no really combinations anywhere.
For startes, Backfire is not good in organized PvP, its slow recharging, 15 energy and has a long cast time. Usually all it does is make the enemy monk spend 5 energy on Remove Hex or Smite Hex.
Energy Burn/Energy Surge both are awful in PvP as well. A Mesmer does not do damage, period (exception being Fragility/Virulence). Not only that, both skills are highly situational and can be a complete waste of time and energy if the opponent, as often is the case, does not have the energy to burn.
Barbed Trap just does not seem to make any sense at all, doesn't fit anywhere.
The rest of your skills are okay, though I personally don't like Energy Tap due to the cast time, though you can keep it if you want. I honestly cannot think of any Ranger skills which fit well with a Mesmer, so I would just drop the secondary altogether, and probably take something like a Necro secondary for a fast-cast putrid or rend. Also Diversion should be on any Mesmer and Signet of Weariness/Humility are both very good shutdown skills. And don't forget the Res Sig.

Ive always thought that Signet of Midnight + Plague Touch sounded pretty good. More than one warrior pounding you? Signet of midnight one, then plague touch the other. Then if the eles start at you, arcane echo energy surge and use it twice, coupled with energy burn, to leave them pretty much useless. Maybe blood magic for some healing (barbed signet + signet of midnight + plague touch anyone?) and maybe to follow the whole aoe theme go and use chaos storm as well? Don't know, I usually play shutdown mesmer with causing people to think twice about using their skills. (Diversion + conundrum spam xP)
