The Templar knights were a Christian army under the pope for a few hundred years till they grew too powerful and were villainized, persecuted, outlawed and finally disbanded.
There is one story of them having attacked the city of Ascalon, they broke through the wall and charged in screaming, but unobstructed till they reached the other side. The 40 of them (only the vanguard charged in) then grew suspicious of the empty city, turned and fled. On the way back through the city to the hole in the wall they were pelted through windows with hundreds of rocks, arrows, and the like. All 40 of them died in the street.
The Templars were also called The White Cloak, for their... well... their white cloaks...
I was wondering if anyone had ever studied or read up on the Templar history (before they disbanded and became a conspiracy myth) and whether or not there are any other connections within Guildwars. Anet (or NCSoft) seems to have taken some inspiration from them, but I'm wondering how much.
