Not enough content to justify a monthly fee. The game world doesn't feel as alive as a true MMORPG does either, which was both its selling point and its flaw. A real double edged sword. If all you do is play PvE, odds are eventually you will walk away from this game. Definitely got my money's worth, however, so no complaints from me.

I definately wouldn't play GW if it had a monthly fee, but that's only because I couldn't afford it.

If the OP had started this thread last week, I would've said "yes".
Of course it would've depended on how high the monthly fee would've been.

I think I even suggested something like a monthly fee on some other thread.

Unfortunately my trust in aNet dropped significantly last friday.
Before I get smacked on the head again for twisting this thread into something off-topic: Today I say: no. Wouldn't pay a monthly fee anymore.
And if I had been paying one until now, I would've just stopped and walked out of the game.

But the game is still for free, it's still (for me) fun to play, so I continue playing.

i would not pay for an MMO, so why would i pay for not a MMO?

Hmm...kind of a redundant question - don't you think?
If GW did carry a monthly fee then surely the only people playing would be those that could afford to.
Personally, with GW requiring no monthly fees to play,i'm not sure why some people would bother to post this type of question...unless,of course, you're genuinely interested in the replies that are generated - but questions like this are posted on (pretty much) every online gaming board...so the answers,of which there are always 3...yes,no and maybe, really shouldn't come as any surprise.

Hell. No.

I wouldn't pay a monthly fee for any game. I hardly play as it is now, a fee is just another reason to quit.

Hell no... Guild Wars doesn't have near enough content to be payed for. I mean, this game got boring in a month of playing and the added contents really uhh do nothing to make the game more enjoyable.

And as for the devs asking opinions and such on the boards, and asking the community for input... Every MMO i've played has this...from Planetside, to Eq and eq2, to WoW...

Most definately not. It's absurd to even think about paying a monthly fee for this game, the only form of PvP offered is small teams of 8 running around in circles for not goddam reason, completing 4 (or more) maxed out PvE characters can be done in a couple months easy, including 15k armor and such. Hell I'm struggling to continue playing the game, the only reason I log on anymore is to see if I can do a little bit of farming. PvP in this game is way too bland and unmotivated for my tastes, if it were like an actual war instead of these insignificant little "arena" style battles...then I'd consider a monthly fee. Because that would keep me wanting to play.

The way things are now, the game's good for about 3-4 months unless you're absolutely crazy about small-scale PvP and are willing to do it for many more months. And to be honest, I sure as hell wouldn't start a subscription for a game that only lasts that long. If this game had a lasting appeal...maybe, a big maybe. Unfortunately though, it's just too small-scale and there's just not enough to keep you playing for any point of time long enough to even require a monthly fee.

I mean, if this game did require a monthly fee from the start and was exactly how it is now, I would've gotten a subscription, payed the $50 for the game, and say $30 for the next couple months. That means I would've payed about $80 for a game that there's not even anything more to? Er...yeah, right. Sorry but all the other games I've bought even for $40 have a longer online appeal than 2 or 3 months...

Monthly fees don't solve anything, you still find assholes, you still find immature jerks, you still find everything you find in the game right now. Keep this in mind, in todays world you don't have to be smart, mature, polite, or have any manner of common sense to get rich.

No way. Mine is a twisted mentality. I can waste hundreds of hours on a game, but will never pay a monthly fee for it.
If I had to, I'd feel like a nerd and, in a sense, forced to play it hardcore. Now I'm playing GW hardcore but I feel it's just my free will. Much better.

Yes, I have issues.

I would probably switch to WoW because of the bigger content and support. Or back to Anarchy Online that I played before GW.

With all due respect. actually considering the amount of users, WoW does have better support...at the very least they have a forum.

Same here!! Certain times during the lunar cycle my Lovely Bride of 22+ years will go OFF on my playing of this game. She will say: "you love your computer more then ME speech".

My saving throw is that when I am playing it is usually with my best friend. She really does like him and he is like part of the family. So she will accept it because we are together. She even laughs now and again at our Teamspeak going on.

I also use the logic that: " Hey we are playing online in our own homes....not like we are out at the BARS DRINKING." She has to admit that it is better to have me a few feet away then to worry about me out on the town.

Ever have your Wife/Girlfriend/Mom/Dad/etc try to talk to you when you just started a major battle with other real people online? That will set my wife OFF. She doesn't Get the Fact that I can't really carry on a conversation while trying to heal 7 other people.

So if I was to actually PAY for this game on a monthly basis...er...will not happen here. This is my first online game period. Only because it is a free one.

Plus I am a cheap basterd...

I did say "ETC". However you are correct. It can be the other way around. I was speaking mostly from my own point of view. What I do is upgrade/purchase a newer faster computer then my "older" computer becomes the "other" computer. Then the rest of the family has a computer to use.

Looks like you two need your own computers.

Another "monthly fee " thread eh?
Having a fee in GW will not solve issues with immature or yourng players. It may remove some, but you also alienate those who can't or decidely don't see the worth in paying a fee to continue playing the game.
You will get more complaints from people saying that they pay the monthly fee and they think they should get more or that they feel they are owed something by paying the fee. Another response I agree with that was stated by another poster was that people getting banned or blocked with through more of a fit if they feel that they were wrongfully punished.

Play WOW, FFXI, COH, or any other pay-per-month game and see if it really keeps the problem players away or if the service or patches are done in a timely manner.

GW may not be perfect, but what game truly is?

But on the topic of a monthly fee, I would consider paying a fee if a couple reasons were considered behind the reason for the fee.

$5.00 a month fee. 12 months x $5= $60 a year. About the price of an average game nowadays. I would pay this fee if not just updates/patches were covered (as they should be) but any and all future expansions.

Low fee means it may not hurt the budget of a lot of people. Required CC# to verify age, so it MAY POSSIBLY cut out SOME of the young players whos attitudes may be immature.

Heheh, take a gamble and try this:

"The online game allows me to indulge in my fantasies in a way that's completely impossible in real life. Do YOU do that?"

99.9999% chance she will divorce/kill you.

0.0001% chance that Interesting Things Could Start To Happen - but, Its A Risk You're Willing To Take!

(incidentally, as a person who's moved from WoW to here, wow has much more problems, support/technology-wise, than GW. It might be that WoW was a victim of its own popularity, but with queues, their servers requiring large amounts of downtime every week, overall I'd say their service was poor considering the fee. However, WoW does have a lot more content. Even if its all boring.)

Sounds like very few people would pay to play this game (aside from the initial investment). Does that mean it is inferior to those games that do require you to pay and still generate large audiences? Can we even compare the two categories and if not, is GW in a lesser category?

You could draw some similarties to television. You have PBS, Network broadcasts, Cable/Satellite and Premium Channels. There are all sorts of advantages and limitations to each forum however they're all judged in the same arena for an Emmy.

M*A*S*H*, Dallas, Cheers and Seinfeld all were able to provide great content without having to pay-to-watch whereas the Sopranos reign supreme in the premium area. Was Dallas a better show than the Sopranos? Was Seinfeld better than Curb Your Enthusiasm? Is Guild Wars better than your pay-to-play games not based on its pricing structure alone but based on its fun? To the majority of you, it doesn't sound like it is.

Well I am sorry to hear all of the sad stories........ ( I am a wife and a huge RPG gamer... I love this game and I let my husband play all the time. I know my character owns his anyday and I like reminding him ...LOL seriously though.... We play together.

I would not play as much if there was a fee....... ) We have four copies... and a wireless high speed network so we all play even the kids

Oh yeah, it's always something "critical" at the moment, like "can you PLEASE go bring me your dirty laundry right now!".

I did buy her a copy of GW. Though she isn't addicted as I am, she is starting to understand the irritation of distractions during a mission.
