Simple really. Give us the ability to fire spells on inanimate objects/bare ground or even allies/pets.
It would mainly apply to Elementalists/mesmers for chaos storm and fire storm etc.
It's a pain in the backside not being able to drop a storm on a patrols path or predicted destination.

The first thing I thought when I read the title was Star Wars... Nevermind me...
Anyways, I like the idea. It'd also be neat to use in Tombs seeing as how you can often predict where people will run and setting, say, Firestorm down in front of you will make warriors take an alternative route and prompting more strategy.

No no, i didn't mean damage allies with it, lol. I meant use them purely as a marker.
For example, you might want to keep the caster back and target an ally who is pulling. The mobs run up to the puller and directly into an incoming shower which was cast as soon as the puller started pulling.
It keeps those fleshy ele's from getting in range too often aswell.
It would also work for E/R in ranger groups for UW. Aswell as having a load of traps, the caster could throw a storm onto the trap area, knowing that the pesky bulls would run under it and not be able to limp out in a hurry.

Technically, There is some problem about the targetting. Lets say if you click on a location on the bridge, how can the game know it is the bridge, or it is the ground behine the bridge?
I suggest it could be done with a marker. Like you have to put a special item on the location then you can target it.

One issue I see with this are with the skills Spell Breaker and Obsidian Flesh - normally they would protect you from a fire storm/chaos storm/etc. attack because you can't be targeted for it - they'd need someone to stand next to you in order to target it on them and thereby hit you. If you could just target the ground before the person with Spell Breaker/Obsidian Flesh on him, you would circumvent the protection on him.
