Suggestion for knowledge of players in game

I feel like there should be a way to check players to see if they have more then 1 character, who this character is, and what lvl he is at.

Sometimes I feel bad too see someone who askes for 50 gold, and I don't wish to give it to them because of the chances they have 3 other names lvl 20, and they are doing this to scam people out of easy gold.

Also, I want to start gathering some materials, such as weapons with low req. and giving them to newer players for free to give them a nice start, and to help them keep an interest in the game.

This will also show them that not everyone is a scammer, out there to try and rip them off, but there are people they can count on for a change, but it makes it hard because just because it says they are lvl 4, doesn't mean they don't have 500k in the storage with 3 other lvl 20 chars.

So it would be nice if we were able to check these things over.

For example, my game name is Peaceful Healer

Have a Number in () to show how many chars I have on my account. I have 4 right now, so it would display

Peaceful Healer(4)

And for people to check what lvl these other chars are, and their alias with a command

Such as using the emote

/whois or /identify Peaceful Healer

And the stats of my other chars on my account will appear.


I don't know if what I have said makes sense to some people, I guess because the fact it is in my head I see how I wish to mean it.

I would like to give someone who needs 10 gold, knowing they will use it for their armor, and not to just stick it in storage with the thousands they have made with their other chars.

I would like to give a weapon to a new player to give him some help, knowing he will put good use to that weapon then to just sell it to the merchant for ez gold.

If this does not make sense, then I will try to explain in better detail what I am suggesting. I don't know if it is already done. It is possible that you can do this and I have yet to know of it. If it is so, then please let me know so I can better my worries then have to wonder if this person lies or not.

I know exactly how you feel. As guild leader I try to stay as active as i can and recruit. all the new members i help out when i can or if i can. i made my guild back in the feb bwe. i dont know back then people were on just to play and have fun. Now i have to watch out for thiefs. Before it was trying to figure out a way to get past gates of kryta and the wilds.

ok back to the point. an officer of mine recruited a new guy. he ended up asking for around 5k from most of my members for some armor. being that i make it a policey to help as much as possible. i have to let my members know now not to give new members anything. at least untill they been in the guild for a month. he must have made over 60k from us. this is his character name just to watch out for him (Phoenixx The Red)

It's a shame too because, now i second guess myself when i help people. yeah i head to ascalon city everyday giving stuff away. like runes, weapons, money, today i gave 20 charr hides to someone just cuz he was on the trade chat asking to buy some. thats antoher thing that bugs me is people buying or selling on local chat while trade chat is quiet. thats for another thread.

i think what you said is right on the money. we need a way to know who these people are. your suggestions make sense. at least i know that im not the only one not taking advatege of the new guys. i wont say the n word cuz i hate it so much. only childish pricks use the n word or pwend.

To the OP: The idea has merit, but I'm willing to bet alot of people would rail against this idea for privacy issues.

I can see why you like this idea, though. It would be nice to know if a player has been plying for a while, though. At least having an indicator of which character slot the person is using would be nice (if this was my third created guy, there would be an indication of that... that sort of thing.) Would be nice to, at the very least, be able to find out the MAIN name on an account... some way of knowing so that if a person does try to scam other, there is a name to pass along.

Ominous, there is a certain extend to generousity. I've had people in my guild ask for stuff and all of my officers are really cool about helping our members (hence the reason WHY they are officers.) However, there is a point when a persons requests become too much. When they start asking for things to the extent of "buy me a new armor set", that crosses the line. You need to learn that line, or create one for yourself. You open yourself to being scammed otherwise, which would then end up being your own fault.

I've told the others in my guild that they don't have to be THAT generous... people need to play though the game and earn things for themselves sometimes. It makes the game more fun for them to get things on their own.

Also... there is nothing wrong with the word newb/noob... it's a common term that has been used for years. Calling people "childish pricks" for it is actually MORE childish...

main name is easy to find: add the current name to your friend list and it shows the main account. Or is it only the name I first in contact with?

I know what you mean with privacy, but it is not like we are gaining account passwords and log-ins, we are just gaining their IGN's

and yes, knowing how many chars the have on their account was my first suggestion, putting a number in () indicating how many chars there are on their char.

I would do this, but you see, there is a whole heck of a lot of players to just add to my friends list just to know who they are. You can add them to your friends list and when they get on another char it shows their name and the char name they are on in () next to it.

That is why I feel like, if the game is going to show that under Friends, then I don't see why it should be a crime to be able to type /whois or /identify <name> to see if they have other chars under their account. Many games propose that idea and put it through, and it can help people greatly with knowing who they are dealing with.

If someone starts problems, people can find out their other chars, and send word on the forum of what they did, which char they did it on, and other chars to find them under.

If someone scams, the same thing. If the gamers here feel like this is something against privacy of the players, then that is fine and I will respect that. But at least give us a number indication of how many they have on their account. Some relief will help me, and probably others.

Actually that's not how I meant it...

I was saying that if this was the 3rd guy I created, it would be indicated that I was using my 3rd guy... not whether or not I have a 4th. I'd also like to add that if you delete an earlier toon it should shift them all down and put the new one as the 4th.

And to the privacy issue... you may not be asking about their accounts or passwords, but some would even say having as much info about them as you are asking is too much. I know it seems petty, but some people are like that.

I agree with you here. The friends list is a poor way to find out this info... if it's gonna be added there needs to be more info given...

Of course a good way of countering the privacy issue could be a confirmation by the other person... hmmm...

This is a good thing to implement because it allows you to check on friends and such without actually asking them about it. I've seen this system in most other games, and it would be a good addition.

I do have one problem with this. I have a person on my friends list that shares her account with her roommates. She has three other roommates. What is to stop one of them from joining a guild, scamming a bunch of stuff, getting a bad rep, etc. and her getting a bad rep because of what you propose? Just because her character is on that account.

I'm all for protecting yourself but I don't think that knowing how many characters this person has is going to do that. Finding out their alias will but then you get back into the privacy issue again. As well as the issue I stated above.

In additition there are too many ways to exploit this. Someone gets pissed off about something you did in game. They find out your alias and get a bunch of their buddies to start hounding you about stuff. They start reporting you for scamming or other stuff.

I'm sorry. It's a nice idea but I can see too many people taking advantage of it for fun or other more nefarious purposes.

perhaps there should be a way to just check levels only and not further info. For example click on a member either in your party window or your guild window (or even friends window) and then click "info" and you would get >>>

4- X

A lot of players enjoy buffing low level players as a kind of charity and altruism.... but a lot of dink players take advantage of this. This would eliminate the chances for one type of freeloader.

EDIT: pash, when people share an account like that there are countless ways to screw them over. If you join my guild I see you whenever your online and it wouldn't take long to learn all of the names on the account, hence making a bad rep (or a good one) for the whole account based on the actions of one.

might be usefull, since it lists info you want known, like their level and if they have othere charaters, but leaves out the other chars names.
if peeps wanted, they could add info like where they were from or a character history, assuming they wanted to be RP about it.

down side? people whinging that looking at players like this is seen as metagaming
(the RP version of it, where say, you are using a way of getting info for your char that they could never use in character.)

this can be a biatch, cause some peaople are a-holes about it, and some ignore the info altogether and others just look out of curiosity sake.

(like with neverwinter, where your list included what your imunites were and what was boosted/drain ect. players would look and some would use it against them in PvP maps and others would just say stupid things like a huge page of empty space and a sarcastic "stop looking at me and roleplay!" coment...sheesh!!)

Not trying to be mean or anything but that is a moot point. Why? Account sharing is against the EULA. So, technically the privacy issue would be a problem for people breaking the rules.

Well, it would just be nice to know if people who are new actually can use the help, or if this is some guy trying to scam good people out of gold ,even 50 gold per person will begin to add up. I mean, yeah, that's the person who gets scammed fault, but sometimes I feel bad for someone who asks for only 10 gold and I have to tell them to bug off because of the chances they have 3 other chars with loads of money. It doesn't metter to me what type of information is passed down, as long as there is some way to know how many chars this person begging has. And with the friends sharing accounts....I don't know what to tell you about that, if 1 person gives off bad vibes then it is your friends fault for A) Allowing her/him to use her account. B) Not removing this person immediately before more trouble happens.

But I've seen this ability in countless number of games, and I haven't really seen any complainers. I don't see what privacy someone can lose by knowing their chars. I've seen games where people cheat or do something then jump to another character, but because someone had the ability to identify them, they were able to realize that they switched to another character to hide. I don't know, may sound corny, but I just hope there is something we can do about this.

I like helping new people out, giving them a lil money, maybe weapons and materials every so often would be nice to know where it is actually going.

Nice idea but I dont think it will change much.
The best thing I think is to change your approach to the problem, as there are so many begger scammers they have alot of gold, gear but will go off and sell the gear or ask for charr hides only to give to collector and sell off as fur.
best thing I think is if they are in a guild let it be their guild responsiblity to look after their players.
Try giving to players your playing with who dont go begging but are showing themselves to be involved and enjoying the game.
I dont understand why some players can think it great to scam by begging it any fun like waiting on a street corner crying out "give me give me"
Was player Diablo and would do the same thing find things and give to new players (what I thought was new players) but they would go off and sell it to the merchant etc.
Giving free hand outs does not do them any favors at all, it doesn't teach them how to find things or that the way to get anything is through hard work its the same in the real world.
As noble as your intentions are it does have a down side it creates dependents to start relying on others.

Well i for one know that alot of the ppl that play this game share it between family members, why? say everyone in the family(normal suburban bastard family), daddy, mommy, skip, and sara wanna play the game, are YOU gonna spend 200 bucks to do this? i sure as hell hope not, there are more efficent ways to spend money and when you can share the game why the hell not?

Nothing wrong with sharing the game between family members. That is not what I am trying to get at. But let's say Daddy, mommy, and sara put 150k in the storage and skip goes and cries "I need gold I need gold" I think that's bs considering he has 150k shared amoungst the 4 of them :P
