Farming - what's the incentive?
M. Jaden
I myself have been farming for a while and then started to realize something... why am I doing this? I already have the items I want, selling them for gold is great but at the same time, I have no need for gold either. I've pretty much bought the armor I want and barely buy stuff anymore. My gold pretty much just sits there with no purpose. So I was wondering, to all the farmers who have what they want and to the ones farming for a completely different reason, why do you do it? For the excitement of getting a gold item, selling it, building for other characters, just adding to your inventory, etc
Moltov joss
I agree about not haveing much to spend money on. It does just sit there. I had to figure out a way to waste 100k the other day (more 15k armor bah). Not enough things to spend money on in gw.
sino-soviet
I agree 100%. I had over 1.5 million in items, but I decided, why? I gave tons of perfect upgrades and gold to new who actually needed it. Now I'm sitting at about 100k. I'm having more fun not fussing over my gold.

The true meaning behind farming is to come here later and complain about "nerfs"...

Combination of things.
I may not be able to get high levels or health, but numbers flowing along the screen never gets old.
And as the infinite wisdom of the pie put it, I have nothing better to do.

I need more 15k/1.5k armors... Need to look good!

Not much to spend your money on. if you want to play pvp just get the unlocks u want no real use in trying to find a pvp shield and good looking axe/sword/hammer in pve. I wish i could use the gold to get a decent shield but all of them are bad compared to pvp
corax5
I just "farm" so I can get lots of 15k armor, but I've given up with normal farming, I sucked at in anyway, so I just do missions in the southern shiverpeaks over and over to farm. I got about 7k from doing thunderhead twice yesterday, although both times the king died at the end. Plus it doesnt take long.
Tactical-Dillusions
I still have runes/upgrades to unlock. I also want enough skill points to get all the skills.
Other than that, it's the only thing left for PvE at the moment. Roll on the update.

I give my guild mates runes and money when they need it, and good weapons when I come across them. I give away or salvage more stuff than I sell. Every so often I'll find something handy for myself, too. And I still seek that elusive shield I so desperately want...
Anomaly
I just recently started farming. Maybe my third day now. I'm not great at it, but it works for me.
After earning about 120k in gold and countless items, runes, and now close to 15 ecto. I started thinking... there really isn't much purpose in this. I'm not really interested in the FoW armor, and I'm certainly not interested in it for all three of my characters (soon to be four).
I guess it's the idea that you want a nice stash there in case, but once you get it, you tend to either say enough is enough, or you follow the age old pattern that there is never enough.
Sort of like people who download Mp3s or illegal software. Countless times they'll never use it, but they still want it. I guess it's about having something others don't. Even if it's just a number in a game.

It's the nature of all human beings to hoard, collect and save up. You're right, it's only money at the end of the day, but a healthy bank balance does not mean anything other than the fact that you could buy what you want if you wanted to.
As for farming as a means to an end, I rarely "Actively" farm. I enjoy clearing map areas, going round and killing monsters, and any drops are a bonus. (In other words, not focusing on the farming aspect, while still kind of doing it anyway) - Odd thing is that I seem to have more success and make more money/get better drops when I'm just wondering around like this then when I make any concious decision to actively farm an area.

I farm for a fissure armor. Once I have it, Im not sure if I will continue farming.
Sagius Truthbarron
I'm trying to get monk runes. Not really by farming, though. I'm trying to get Monk runes so I can solo farm UW. I'm trying to solo farm UW becuase... Uh...

I can't wait until some disenchanting skills are put to use by the underworld NPCs.
TopGun
Well Jaden, you can trace this all the way back to "Why am I playing this video game when I have a real life?" *shrug* Well when you find your answer to that, you'll find your answer to why you farm. Are you playing 'cause you're bored? Well, if you are, and you think farming is fun, then go ahead, farm away.
Sekkira
Never ask yourself why you're playing a game. From personal experience I then get bored of the game rather quickly.
Mr. Matt
I rarely farm, but when I do it's to buy stuff for new characters I've made. Money goes down quickly if you don't top it up once in a while. I'm not exactly 'rich' anyway, only have about 60k stored away.
Xue Yi Liang
Money is most important when you don't have it.
I use my dough to keep my guildies armed with the best equipment I can find. So if you don't want to spend on yourself - try spreading a little of it around.

Maxiemonster
Depends, myself as a Monk, it's pretty pointless to farm, where do I need to spend my money on? but a Warrior needs lots of money, a max Dmg weapon with perfect upgrades cost about 600K, some people even want several of these items, so then you'll need to farm your ass of. Of course, if you want a Fissure of Woe armor set you'll need to farm a long time too, and for a 15K armor set, you'll probably need to farm a little while too. It just depends on what you want.
I usually do this:
Runes = 50K (150K for a Warrior)
1.5K Droknar's Forge set = 10K
Collector's items
Everything else besides that is nothing more then luxury, and isn't needed. Of course, I understand that you would want to farm to get that bad ass look you always wanted

I make contests for my guildmates
prizes go from 3K gold to ectoplasm
and farming allows me to try several builds without limits (for instance, the price of superior monk runes isn't a problem)

very true - it's all about freedom.
It's nice to be able to experiment with dye mixtures that include black - to get the perfect color you want.
Also, if you wait until you want something (e.g. nice sword or armor) before you start saving it's much more difficult.

Divinitys Creature
Heh it's kind of funny how the gold drops in GW *kinda* align with real life in how much you want before you're happy. 100k is decent, 1 million is brilliant and 10 million is just amazing.
