Has anyone attempted to speed through Guild Wars for the purpose of obtaining the best time? There's always that population of speed gamers out there somewhere who like to see how fast they can beat a game.
Of course, this would mean no twinking the characters, no higher level assistance, just legitimately zooming through the game as fast as humanly possible (skipping whatever missions you want).

that's a neat idea
If any attempt it we could post the final boss dead screenshot with the /age function added
Of course, we'd have to use the honor system to show that nobody was twinked and/or rushed.
edit: we need more character slots

Any speed run should be recorded in a demo.
Demo runners use any trick they can to get through games so I'm not sure if being rushed would count as cheating or not. As a matter of fact I don't think 'rushing' should be considered a speed run 'no-no'.
I'm not a speed runner.
Yes we need more character slots and some beer.

rushes should be cheating... since someone without cash would automatically be excluded from the contest. I have 10k in my bank account, that's more than enough to get someone to rush me to droknars or sanctum cay at the least

Unfortunately, you still have to level. Beating the game without a twinked character at a low level is next to impossible afaik.

I've been giving it some thought a good route to try might be:
- Pre Searing: Grab the skill quests and leave. Kill everything you come near though as you'll need the drops for gold and the experience.
- Ascalon: Grab the quests that give you skills you plan on using then head off to Yak's Bend. Again, fight the whole way for the experience and drops.
- Do the Borlis Pass and Frost Gate missions.
- Head to the Temple of the Ages. As usual, fight for drops and experience.
- Use the fun party of eight to head to Sanctum Cay.
- Do the Sanctum Cay mission.
- Crystal Desert: Fight (if you can) to the mission places. Do the ascension missions and ascend. This gives the much needed experience a character would need. Do the attribute point quest too.
- Southern Shiverpeaks: It would probably be easiest and fastest to just do all the missions here. Do the attribute point quest too.
- Fire Islands: Final stretch. Kill 'em all!
As for equipment, especially armor, saving up collector items that you might run into along the run would help keep you alive. Hopefully if you buy next to nothing on your trip you can afford some Droknar's armor. If not, hope you ran into enough collectors. The route would have to be planned accordingly.
EDIT: Of course, I didn't include the Lornar's shortcut because it would be extremely doubtful any character could make it through. And even if they could they would be at such a low level they couldn't finish the game or buy any armor to help them anyways.

The fastest would have occured prior to the hard exp cap when ascending. It would have also involved 2 human players behind the keyboard (at least) to speed up the zone rushing process. There are only a couple missions that are neccacary for something like this and the rest are more of a detour of sorts that would be collected afterwards.
For something that would be a true test, more guildelines would need to exist, rather than just skipping through the game, while only participating within ~7-10 missions; depending on route taken and not being rushed by a higher level character.

To try any time this, some serious guidlines would have to be met.
I am thinking of this stragedy. Find 3, 5, and 7 good friends/guildmates to run this with you. They are level 20s that have exsperiance with thier team builds. Help when you can but expect them to do most of the work. You will level up naturally. I would not do any skill quests. I would use the money and crafting items in my storage for armor, and I probably have a a weapon sitting around that is sufficent for endgame play.
So what would I accomplish with that stragedy? Nothing.
Your team mates have beaten the game for you, and you saved lots of time and wasted skillpoints.
I think, the real killer would be to solo the game.
