Atm I stopped playing WoW due to the "time pig" instances and 12 year olds running the show for the endgame dungeon (Molten Core). At first I was pleased that Blizzard did their homework and created a well balanced MMO for a change...but when I lvld out my launch toon I soon realized Blizzard assumed that 1 million toons never grinded another MMOs before and stalled them at the endgame since WoW was never completed in the first place and pvp is a throw back to 5 years ago where there will be little reward to pvp in other MMO's. Daoc has the superior pvp model to date and many ex-Daocer's in WoW are not pleased with the feeble attempt to mimic the model of Daoc....myself included.

Anyways I cant wait to get my hands on Guild Wars. I hope that the it will be fun even at the endgame content. Any comparisons I do appreciate.

PS...I endgamed AO Daoc SWG WoW etc...therefore please dont pretend that you know lots if u havent endgamed other MMO's. This post is for the MMO vets only.

Well, you can't get zerged in pvp as they are instanced, unless perhaps in a 6 group battle all 5 others come for you, which is not likely.

There are some areas that are PUG pvp (randomly assigned) but later in the game you get to pick your groups.

Fights seem to last longer than they did in DAOC, at least 8v8 which never happened.

Healers are the first targetted, as usual.

You don't have to run around the "frontier" to find a fight and die just to go back out to do it again.

PVP appears more balanced.

Edit: this doesn't follow the post title, however it does offer you a comparison to DAOC

I'm just one man though.

O nice...Zerg I always found to be for the timid and insecure. Farming rps was the only use imo. Wow has become a big zergfest now the honor system is in place. Why I yawned at it and turned my back....waiting list for their small BG plain sux 2. Anyways thank you bud for the info and your experienced thoughts.

Btw one voice is better than the 1 miilion LAN nubs that bought into the WoW model lol :P

I played on mid igraine for a long time as one of the underdogs..

PvP is a lot better in this game since it is more structured and mostly smaller in scale.

this game is also likely to have a much larger player base then most of the MMORPGS since it does not hold to that traditional 'they like the grind' philosophy. Preparation is more important in Guild Wars I feel because once you leave town you are locked into the 8 skills that you left with....You don't have access to 10 hotbars with everything possible ability you have for every possible encounter. You need to figure out what your mission and role are likely to be and design accordingly.

I think the zergs on daoc mostly cropped up because there _was_ no other way for it work out. The average player didn't have military style training or more importantly the focus to stick to a plan or group.

heck, if you played daoc much you were on multiple relic raids...how how much planning did they take and good lord, the spamming by the organizers trying to keep people on task and not wandering off. The zerg was effective because it was so much easier to just point or lead the masses in one big mess.

there are a couple of other posts floating around on this subject....but I think Guild Wars will certainly appeal to a lot of the people interested in developing builds and playing with skill as opposed to numbers.

in my opinion WoW just is horrible, i enjoy Guild Wars many many more times more then i did WoW, EQ, and EQ2
EQ2 has unbelievably good graphics, was very fun in PvE but there was no PvP not even dueling, which is why i quit
WoW i just couldn't get over the bad graphics and i thought it was pretty boring after a few days, and it might of just been the server i was on but it had the worst community i had ever seen on any MMO
GW has good graphics and the PvP is extremely fun, way more fun then the PvP in WoW

Hib Gawaine was my home from the begining of DAOC. I actually played it and tried to pull away but it didn't work and I ended up going back to my ranger. Anyway .. I was trolling thru the forums and I stumbled upon a post about GuildWars. It was a horrible post, some teeny bopper stumbling on his words about how he played this awsome game that was GuildWars. Worse yet, he even stated that this GuildWars ORPG had no monthly fee! "purposterous" I thought to myself. I said to myself heh.... the game world has gone totally down hill since the release of Deus Ex and Theif. There were simply no games out there that had the aspect of pvp and pve that came close to the likes of DAOC. But, DAOC decided to raise thier rates, the little woman went to try out EQII, which I .. regrettably also tried but quickly purged that pile of elephant feces from my system and went back to my trusty DAOC. I was at best buy picking up a router cable when I came across this game box that was only (at the time) 10.00 . It was GuildWars, and I could try it for only 10.00 ! "Wow," I thought to myself, can't hurt to try it out for only 10.00. I took it home, popped it in and (lucky for me this was a Saturday in which a BWE was active). I didn't even know that I could only play during the BWE's at that time. I was surprised when the game loaded up after about 3 mins. or so and I saw the opening page, I thought .. wow... nice graphics. I started my first char and I was pretty floored about how nice the scenery was, and it didn't seem like I installed much to justify how great the graphics were. I did not even realize a the time that the BWE was over that I had not even seen an eighth of the pve portion (I was still in pre-searing Ascalon). I whined when the bwe was over, I deleted DAOC cancelled the money hungry monthly fee takin games I had, and eagerly awaited the next BWE. I now find myself uncontrollably acting like that teeny bopper hyping this game to as many people as will listen and hoping that one day, they too .. will see the light.... of that which is GuildWars.

I played EQ for almost 7 years and played DAOC for 5ish, I will miss DAOC a lil bit, but I wont miss the fee.

This is of course my opinion. Great game they've made for us and I'm glad I've yet to see it all.

I've played a great deal of games. From the original (And good days) of UO to World of Warcraft. I'm not going to say that I absolutely hate everything about games like World of Warcraft, and the game offered a lot of fun but it didn't last long. There just wasn't a lot to keep me interested. Not like this is important, because some people find the game very enjoyable still, so I mean no disrespect to them. I simply feel that, along with no monthly fee, Guild Wars (Although not without it's own shortcomings) is simply better than other MMORPGs go, as far as "time for your money" is concerned. Guild Wars, in my experience playing both, simply had a better feel to it than World of Warcraft.

Hmm. I have played EQ 1, EQ 2, SWG, FFXI (briefly), CoH, WoW and now Guild Wars (not including a bunch I beta tested or did a free trial of and didn't like).

Here is my opinion, for what it is worth. Have you ever seen the movie Full Metal Jacket? The first half of that film is one of my all time favorite movies. The second half of that movie sucked. You could not even tell that the second half of the movie was made by the same director.

That is how I felt when I played World of Warcraft. From level 1-59 I loved that game. I have only played one other MMO I liked better, which was EQ 1. WoW is simply a fantastic game from 1-59. Then you reach level 60 and move into the sucky half.

So, will GW be better than 1-59 WoW? No. Will it be better than 60+ WoW? Absolutely. Will it have better PvP? Absolutely. Will it have more exciting and fun things added to it for you to enjoy at regular intervals? Absolutely.

One word of caution though. If you think there are a ton of idiots running around WoW, you ain't seen nothing yet. Free games lower the barriers to entry. When I logged onto the beta weekend I was awash in a sea of characters obviously named by children or people with a Porky's level of maturity. However, unlike WoW, in this game you can turn off local chat (which basically makes your character deaf and you don't have to listen to them) and it's all instanced so you can avoid them for the most part if you want.

I played EQ for a few years to level 60 (when that was the cap) with some 200 AAs. I then played CoH to 50 and that was fun and kind of different but a little repeditive towards the end.

I then played WoW and levelled a toon to 60 which was fun for the first month but it started to feel like EQ very quickly with the intense focus on levelling and the game play. The PvP wasnt to great with huge lag in any larger scale battle. Wow felt like EQ with a prettier skin but the same ugly beast underneath, perhaps if i hadnt played EQ for so long i would've liked it more.

Guild Wars however i feel is truely different and is unique. The idea of a level 20 cap was a wierd concept at first but its the main reason now im playing. Im sick to death of playing MMOs where the goal is to level up until you reach the top and then your left standing around scratching your bum. Yet with guildwars you dont even care about your level and the insentive is the gameplay, i've only played one BWE and Guildwars is a breathe of fresh air.

Perhaps a forum full of Guild Wars fanboys wasn't the best place to ask if this game is better than World of Warcraft, But I can tell you that "yes, it's a hell of a lot better than WoW" with no second thoughts or consideration of *anything* that is better in WoW.

WoW is a great game, and will be one of the best out there once Blizzard figure out how to actually run one. Way to many issues with that game, and the balancing issues have really put a dent in that game, and of course the 14 year old b.net kids running around all over the place.

WoW and GW are totally different games. WoW = your typical MMO, the level grind, the running all over the place for missions, the poor PVP, the rediculous patches.

GW = nothing like you have ever played, well, kinda. They have taken all the things people like about MMO's and taken out all hte crap that people hated about MMO's and put them all together. Im not saying GW will be the best out there, but It make me cancel my 2 WoW account, MXO account, EQ2 account and SWG account if that has any weight to my reply.

It is something I have been looking forward to for a long time. The instanced zones for just you or your party is simply brilliant. The PVP, is very well balanced unlike WoW where someone would lose to a better play, and immediately call nerf to the class, and what happened? That class got nerfed.

They do have a great game in WoW, but it is ruined by the people who think they know what a MMO should be, and clearly have no idea about anything.

GW will be great, the greatest? That is something we will not know for a very long time. IT might not get the playerbase other MMO's have, but it definately has me hooked.

Sounds like you are interested in rewarding PvP? As far as I can tell there aren't really any rewards for PvP in this game. It's more like Unreal (UT2004) matches than PvP.

It's hard to compare this to WoW, it's not even the same genre.

i will close any GW vs. WoW threads just on principle. They generally devolve into flame fests and invoke fanbois to crawl out from the deepest regions of whatever foul existence they come from.

if you wish to have an unbiased discussion, please look somewhere other than fansites.
