Something overlooked during the rune inflation

Well, everyone has a lot to say when it comes to the sudden inflation of rune prices and black/silver dye prices, but what I found just as interesting has been the rare material market. I personally like rubies and sapphires...I think having a small hoard of jewels is fun. So instead of having 100k just sitting in my storage, I just go and buy as many sapphires and rubies and I can afford. Anyways, I bought around 7 of each yesterday from the trader for about 8k each. People may argue that ectos and shards are a more solid investment, but I've seen prices go up and down on both (in fact, you can buy shards for 2k each now), and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the new solo-monk will probably pump quite a few more ectos into the economy. Sapphires and rubies drop maybe one to every 10 ecto drops...there's just not very many in the game. Anyways, long story short, what I bough for 8k yesterday is now being sold for over 12k, and I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 15k by tonight. I think there's a paranoia about buying low and selling high because of thought of the millions of gold that we all missed out on in not catching the solo-monk trend and stocking up on sup. monk runes. So people are thinking: What will be the next thing that gets price gouged? I could be wrong, but I'd keep an eye on the ruby and sappire prices over the next day or two.

their price doesn't flux that much so they stay solid.

What percentage to they sell to the NPC for though? Because I dont know many people who want to buy them.

Oddly enough, I just went to check...the price to buy it from trader is about 12.5k per ruby/sapphire, the sell price for rubies is 10k and for sapphires 8300 gold.

what are rubies and saphs used for? i've known about them just not what they are used for. thanks

If they have a use right now, no one knows about it. Maybe in an update or future chapter you will need them for armor/ect. but at the moment they do completely nothing. They're dropped in UW and FoW, and I've maybe seen a total of 5 rubies/sapphires combined ever dropped. Also, other MMORPGs have had similar items that are used for currency when trading for items of higher value.

i thought you needed them for the 15k elementalist helms but i dunno and if they dont have a use why would the price rise since they arnt needed and ectos price will remain steady for a long time sence ecto is being put out of the market just as fast as its going in

That's an interesting observation. I was wondering myself if rubies and sapphires might become a form of currency unto themselves if gold ever becomes seriously devalued.

They have no use.

I think that shows something is very wrong with the economy, rubies and sapphires have no pratical use (besides wasting inventory slots) so their price sould remain the same or lower since players would be selling then for gold.

unless people are speculating like they do in normal economies that they'll be used for the mentioned top end pve update soon.

rubies and saph have no use it the reason they stay strong at merchants. people are hording them because 1 they have no use and some don't know it and 2 they will have a future use so their value is undetermined.

It seems likely to me that the gem market is a bubble.

They have no use but people buy them because their price is increasing. Well, if there is no use for them then there is no demand apart from people buying because they are going up (or possible because they like shiny things). Once the price starts going down there could well be a crash.

That assumes that there is not some artificial demand implemented by the game (ie one taken out of the merchant's stock on a regular basis).

When you've got an extra 200k sitting around and you don't feel like buying gold armors, you might as well get some shiny rocks.

where can you buy these shiny rocks? i've never seen them? but also i'm glad the rune prices went down again for the monks. it was crazy when minor healing runes costs over a plat a few days ago. Now it's crashed back down to 120. someone's really playing around here with alot of gold!

Would be nice if we could use them to UPGRADE our wands. Since they use Rubies for lasers why not use them to enhance our Holy Rods as well?...Like a focus beam or something.

You know... I always wanted that glowing rock stuck on my forehead to be able to shoot laser beams. Every elementalist should be able to shoot lasers from their foreheads.

rubies and sapphires are pretty. i like them and have been buying them since 3K per. they were rare and i wanted more than the 5 or so rubies/sapphires i picked up. unfortunately now they're almost as much as ecto =(
seems like everyone is buying them now. i don't even care what they're for, they're just cool to collect. sort of like my pile of 200 monstrous eyes - that alone is just a hilarious thought, lol

I'm waiting for their price to rise before dumping it all. I dream of the day when fetid carapaces are required to construct fissure armor instead of ectos and shards. Then I will be rich! Filthy rich! I will sell each of them for no less than 16k each!

having just gotten into material tradin myself I was particularly shocked at the massive price inflation even though it didnt really effect me.

My problem, in response to mithies about selin carapaces, is that in attempt to buy hide at low prices of 8g and thn sell when trtader price rose was a waste of time.

the trader was upto 470 so i thought confidently 25/30g sell. Regardless, people were still sellin and buyin at 10g. So what is the bloody point. I even went around tellin everyone to check the prices at trader to convince them to sell at "normal" rates.

anyone else see why I would be annoyed? is this off topic? hehe

Buy a load of stock

Then go out and talk rubbish about them to increase the price and make a profit

Before selling what you hold (which will kill the market price)

Haha, I may have contributed to the price hike or I may not have. We're at about 15.5k each now at the rare material trader for those following the rise...I think it's hard to believe that the price increase was due to my post on a forum. I think it more has to do with everything getting completely out of whack. fur squares costing nearly 1k? Blue and red dye for over 3k at moments? 20k for black dye? Where are people getting the money for this I have to wonder? Also while superior monk runes remain impossible to buy for the average gamer, all other superior runes have seen dramatic price increases as well. It's now almost 11k for a necro superior death rune...yeah I know, holy ****.
