The most annoying thing EVER

Has anyone besides me had an absolutely infuriating experience with the inability to ignore monsters not worth fighting? What I mean is, when you're running through an area where you might have missed something, and you're like, twice the level of any of the monsters in the area, but you have NO choice but to fight them, because if you don't they pile up on top of you, fifty at a time, and peg you to death with 1-damage strikes.

The worst situation is when all you have to do is just ignore them and plow through, but then you get something like a Flash Gargoyle casting Imagined Burden or an Ice Golem using Ice Spikes and suddenly you move slower than a retarded snail. It's seriously the single most annoying thing I've ever experienced in a game in my entire life.

Now, I love Guild Wars. I play it every day, and for the most part, I'm thrilled. I've gotten one character past ascension, and another close behind. I do Underworld runs on a regular basis. I'm certainly not a newb. The thing is, I could easily slay these monsters solo by the hundreds if I felt like it. I just don't. I get nothing out of it. No experience, no items worth keeping. Nothing. It's just time consuming, repetitive, and annoying as heck that I have no choice but to sit here and fight them. What the heck are they doing attacking someone twice their level anyway? I certainly wouldn't. And I wouldn't mind it if I could just run past with Sprint or something, but I can't, because they just cripple or burden me and then before I can even move along my path two feet (nevermind lag-warping and enemies body-blocking your way), I'm mauled by three hundred level 2 Gargoyles doing 1 damage every attack. It's rediculous, and seriously kills the fun of even going back to those areas at all. I'd really like to know what the idea was when designing areas like that. They certainly didn't sit in a room going "Hey, you know what? I bet people would really love to play an area where you walk helplessly along like a crippled two year old while mosquitos bite you to death."

I'm not saying such skills or monsters shouldn't exist. I'm just suggesting they make things a little less infuriating. Tone down the monster spawns. And make monsters NOT attack players that could kill them in one freaking hit. All things like that do is make what could be a quick, easy, fun run into a time-consuming headache. I had to stop playing because I was so tired of trying to run through Diessa Lowlands today. I just didn't want to waste my time killing everything along the way. What would I get out of it, besides a waste of half an hour?

I am in 100% full agreement with you. They shouldn't piss you off unless you aggro them, just like green-named animals - and level 1 golems in presearing once you get to level 5 or so.
I cannot stand when I run through Ascalon briefly to finish a quest I forgot about earlier... and my level 20 is assailed by puny level 3 who I have no choice but to stop and 1-hit-kill before I begin attracting legions of them.

That's the funniest thing I've read on these boards all day long. I agree with it totally, but I think they added all those hoards to curtail botting. Once they oust the botters, I hope they will make a few of the changes you suggest. I certainly hate wandering around Kryta, having to kill 8 and a half billion Tengu that are utterly no challenge to my level 20. Even more annoying is having to do it with the "newb": he and his henchmen just die and die and die, perhaps taking 2 of the annoying Tengu with them each time. It's just tiresome.

Ice Imps. I F'ing HATE ice imps. They snare you, will never break aggro in a million freaking years, and in packs can do some considerable harm. Those things have gotten me killed more than anything else while running to different outposts in the southern shiverpeaks. Only thing worse are the Wurms in Lornar's Pass, but those are tough, hardcore critters, and you CAN break aggro from them. Imps are just cheap little bastards.

Yes! I can very much relate to this post! I hate going back to low level areas only to be burdened by 5000 devourers smacking me.

With my W/Mo I noticed I had forgotten to go to the courthouse. No problem, I map to Nolani and head out for a quick jog. Two feet later I am crawling along due to the Imagined Burden. Not long after I have 20 Gargoyles forming a conga line behind me draining me with their powerful -1 attacks. So I slap on some mending. Ha! Showed them. Doesn't matter how slow I move they can't hurt me. Enter a Charr Chaot that shatters my enchantment. Now I have to stop every two feet and use Healing Signet. A week later (it seems) I reach the courthouse. I didn't play the rest of the day.

At least make it so lower level mobs get tired of chasing you after ten miles or so.

Yeah I agree. Imagine an ascended W/Mo20 dying on the way to escorting you from Piken to the Courthouse. How disheartening.

What's even worse is inadvertently getting cornered by the little buggers and you're forced to slug it out one by one.

I have a game called Guardian's Crusade with a fantastic and ingenious system. You see, when you're in an area with high-level monsters, the ghosts (which represent the enemies, you get in a battle when you touch a ghost) are large and very fast, and will chase you if you get close. If you're around the same level as the monsters, the ghosts are smaller and slower, but will still try to attack you. If you are a higher level and much stronger than the monsters, the ghosts are small, pale, and run from you on sight. I absolutely LOVE this, and I think it would be great for Guild Wars. I can just imagine running through Ascalon when a Devourer pops up, sees you, and quickly burrows back into the ground because he KNOWS he doesn't stand a chance.

Maybe add some amount of xp, instead of the +0xp I see all the time. Skill points aren't easy to get if you were stupid and bought all the skills you could have quested for..so I would love more xp.

While I'm certainly NOT disagreeing with you, and some of the huge mobs are annoying to the point of being torture (Tengu and Ice Imps!!!), sometimes, just SOMETIMES, fighting through those low areas can be a blast. Only with the right skills though, and if you're in the mood.

A particularly enjoyable experience: A Warrior guildmate and myself (Ranger) were in Ascalon the other day, being utterly mobbed by Grawl. I dropped Edge of Extinction and she did one Crude Swing, resulting in oh, maybe fourty dead monkeys in ONE blow. You can't beat entertainment like that! ^_^

yea. i got bored earlier and decided to see how much stuff i could aggro outside ascalon with my lvl 20 w/r. i got about 50 things behind me, and then my pet snow wolf and i just stopped and beat the utter crap out of all of them. every once in awhile you just need to utterly destroy things. its a good anger release.

and i totally agree with you, i freaking hate it when all you want to do is run to the next map marker, and you get mobbed by #@$%@ things that couldnt hurt you if you were in your undies.

i love helping my guildmates with missions like nolani and northern wall, just to decimate the huge charr groups in the missions.

like, the end of fort ranik mission.. NOTHING COMPARES to creamating all of the charr yourself instead of using the catapults

just makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside

@ Mesmerized. ABSOLUTELY!!!! I adore obliterating any and all Charr north of the wall all by myself or having a team mate with me and watching him hack and hack at one while i 2 hit kill another.. Hee hee...very fun, very fun indeed... Have you tried to fight off the char in the northern wall mission.. That presented a challenge when I tried doing it all by myself. Lol...

@ the thread: I have two things to say, gargoyles and devourers....gargoyles and devourers.......

I agree.
the way i see it is, if the monsters' level is too low to give you an xp anyway, he shouldn't attack you unless he's being attacked (kinda like pre-seering).

TOTALLY AGREE with the theme of this thread. Where is the fear? These lv 6 should be running away from us lv 20 bad ass ppl. And speaking of the charr. Oh I love going back and kicking their butts solo with my E/Mo. 1-2 hit kills on most of them. Its fun to go into the courthouse and join those "LFG Ashes" people who get all "heard this was tough, can we do it?" which I'm just... "All we need is me." not to be c o c k y but ya know... let them pick away at those charr while I summon one spell to wipe them all out in one shot. It leaves the newbies "wtf skill was that?" makes me feel good after getting my ass handed to me countless times by ice imps... and those lonar pass wurms... *nightmares*
