Glich with Protective Bond

i'm soloing an area with alot of spell casters. i'm using my 105 smite monk. after a while is started to notice that i'm gaining energy faster than normal.
protective spirit doesn't trigger the 1 energy loss when you are hit with magic but balth spirit does trigger giving you 1 energy. when i'm hit with the ememies elemental attacks i'm gaining energy but not losing it. btw its the fire imps i discovered this.

higher smiting only affects the adrinaline balth spirit gives you.

while the imps are hitting me with magic and their regular attacks i was gaining energy instead of breaking even and bond was still triggering

already tested bonetti doesn't give me energy from them because its not melee or arrows its fire dmg
its balth spirit giving me the energy becaus bond is not giving me a 1 energy loss

Read the description. I noticed this with ceratin mobs and is one reason I don't always run a low health build. IF the spell prevents damage, it uses designated amount of energy. If bond doesnt prevent at least 5%, you'll recieve you energy from essence or spirit as normal. On the same note I can't say for sure if spirit only gives one pip or if there is a chance factor or what not for more per hit.

i'm not usng essence. the animation triggers but the energy gain doesn't. balth spirit on the other hand gives energy no matter what hits you and does trigger with pro bond. you can test for yourself at riverside providence. go into mission. there is good farming there and you also get the staff for 1 energy regen. the scepter is also a magnet for monsters making them even easier to group.
use pro bond till it gives you the 1 energy loss then cast balth spirit. use mending and breeze so the imps 7 degen won't kill you. when they hit you with their magic spells you'll gain 1 energy and will trigger pro bond's dmg prevention but not its energy loss. this is a good glitch though.
did find a bad one with pro bond though. if you cast it for the 1 energy loss (do not dispell between castings) then cast it again w/o that +1 to protection the enchant icon will not change from 1 dmg but it is accually 2 energy loss. for some reason pro bond will replace itself w/o dispelling between each cast but doesn't display it on the enchant bar.

actually.... you say you can take on imps with the 105 hp build? does that mean you can take on dryders too? i personally never really went to the dryders in uw.. i stick to smites. but still... that would be way cool since you would gain so much xp from those quests

Yeah you can take on the dryders - might need some healing - healing signet works well and costs no energy

imps are pathetic, they do low damage, and if you take less than 5% of your max health in damage, prot bond isnt triggerd and therefore you gain energy on the hit, its simple as that

Actually, I have the same problem in the underworld. Maelstrom gives me 1 energy per hit, as do shard storm and other elemental attacks. The OP's analysis is correct--this is a bug.
I've also had my energy jump up by ~3 and then a few seconds later back down by the same amount, yet I can cast spells if that extra 3 gives me enough... hm..
Also, don't say that I'm getting hit for less than the damage take prot bond off and one shard storm smacks me for 148~dmg
btw: Maelstrom is Strudel in German! Getting pelted with strudels is hella fun

I excperienced this myself:
When imps hit me, when bonettis was down, i got energy per hit.
When i later activated Bonettis vs. the same creeps, my energy stayed static.
Personally, I think its a bug with Bonettis itself...

you should change your build anyways.. bond sucks. Get down to 55 hp (do cities of ascalon quest) and then swap out prot bond with prot spirit, and put protection to 13, healing to 13 and smiting to 12, and 6 divine favor, 6 inspiration..
Use prot spirit every 20 seconds, and use zealots fire with channelling, essence bond, bal spirit, and spam divine boon to gain health and trigger zealots. Activate bals aura where possible. Much faster killing like this.

I have noticed this as everyonce in a while I will gain energy when Balth's spirit and Pro bond should cancel out. However, a really big thing for me is that I will instantly die while fighting smites and coldfires for absolutely no reason. For instance, I was fighting 3 coldfires and 4-5 smites. Got it down to the last coldfire that had 25% or less health and all of a sudden, I die instantaneously. No remove enchantments, no time to respond. This has happened 2 or 3 times recently. I have no idea what is going on and I am no where near the Obsidian Behemoths!
Confirmed: Protective Bond will glitch and not calculate the correct damage you are supposed to be receiving every once in a while. I just took ~108 damage from a Terrorweb dryder while Protective Bond was on with my 55 monk build. Thoughts?

If you are using the -50hp focus item from the Cities of Ascalon Quest, you will notice it give +3 Energy (while hexed). The Coldfires are probably hexing you with Rust, Frozen Burst, Shard Storm, etc and then it wears off, and you lose the +3 energy. Same will happen in your HP goes below 40%.
EDIT: To Spartan2: You probably had less than 3 energy and all of the hexes wore off. This would put you at negative energy and your enchantments would wear off, thus you die.
