Should there be penalties for leaving game?

I notice there are several players that take the sadistic joy in leaving their team in random arenas at the start of battles. This is not a coincidence as the same person did it more than once.

I've noticed a trend of this myself, as well. While I do think there should be a penalty, I don't think it shouuld be too severe, since there sometimes are legitimate reasons for dropping out early. I think maybe a 5 minute ban on random arenas would be nice, it's not long enough to to affect someone who did it on accident, or had connection problems, but it might be long enough so sadistic people who drop out to annoy others won't be bothered to try it anymore.

I believe that it could be implemented, but I doubt that it would be any good. the reason I say this is because out of the thousands of players in the game, there are millions of reasons for a player to leave. Sometimes, a player can not help being disconnected. Even, if the Dev team were to put something that could detect if you willfully disconnected during a mission or random arena, they would not be able to detect that you logged off because your mother broke her hip and you had to rush her to the hospital. So all in all, no it won't happen.

I think there should be no penalty for getting disconnected due to an error, and if you had to log out to drive your mother to a hospital, a short-term ban wouldn't affect you anyways, because you will be at the hospital. Any real life emergency would be the same, you are dealing with the emergency and can't play so it doesn't matter that you are banned from the arenas.

Agreed. Maybe try being more selective if your gonna use pug's in team arenas or anywhere alike.

I do think its a bad idea even though i can understand the frustration. Out of intrest, what kind of 'penalty' would you like to see brought in?

well does this even happen when you say something like "sorry guys i g2g i have to eat" because if it does i dont want to be penalized for being human and needing to eat even if the ban is short term

the whole problem with this idea would be that there is no way to distinguish what is an emergency or disconnection from the server. if you join pugs, you just got to take the chance.

In order to do this, the game would have to differentiate between a person who purposefully leaves, and one who is dropped/kicked for another reason.

One of my guildmates has a dialup issue that drops him after a certain length of time. Sometimes it's hard to judge exactly when that will happen. Penalizing him for a hardware/internet issue hardly seems fair. Besides that... there have been times where he's KNOWN he was about to be booted, at which time he lets us know and logs out. It doesn't bother us, because we realize he's having issues.

I like the idea that has been suggested many times on this forum, henchmen replacments. Getting Little Thom because a Warrior drops isn't the GREATEST, but at least we'd be able to continue the mission with a full party and possibly make it through.
