Rubies/Sapphires

Are these close to having a purpose? I ask because I traded a 10/10 sundering haft for 15 of them a couple weeks ago when they were around 4900/5000. But now they are rising every day.

Were 8152 Fri, 10956 yesterday, and 11127 this morning when I checked. The traders are paying more for them than even ecto. But they have no apparent use.

So is this rise in price the foreshadow of them being introduced as a useable commodity?

I was crying when they stayed in the mid 4Ks, now I wish I had more (but isn't that the way it always is)

Just curious if anyone knows when/if they will have a purpose.

BTW I have NEVER seen one drop, solo or in a group, so not even sure where they come from. I thought FOW, but I have many many runs through there and havent seen any.

i have gotten only one saphire drop and thar was from a low level stone elemental

i have no idea what they will be used for but since they didnt clean them out of the game the way they did a bunch of beta items i will guess there will be some premium use for them in chapter 2 when it comes out

ruby armor perhaps

saphire armor possibly

i also expect them to introduce diamonds and emeralds and maybe other colored gems later as well

If they do I sure hope they increase storage capacity - cause I have too much junk as it is.

I think rubies/sapphires are a good way of having wealth without having gold XD
Would clean up big trades a whole lot if they had a fixed rate... not that gold does, it seems, with everything going up in prices all the time. But it would be great if you could deal 100k+ trades without a middleman via rubies/sapphires.
"Ok.. you want 150k for that... lets see... 100k gold, 5 rubies, and 1 sapphire."

rubies, at the very least, and so i assume sapphires too, drop in the fissure of woe

i know because one dropped for me as i was killing armored cave spiders

that is a real possibility as either Gaile/Alex said that extra character slot(s) would be most likely in chapter 2 when new professions/races will be added.

increased storage for them would be logical

plus you would have the maxed out storage of all characters combined

characters i dont use still have bags with runes of holding just for the extra storage space

I got 1 sapphire drop from a uw run with a group ... I cant remember what dropped it ... it was 2 weeks agao i think it may have been grasping ... since release I have only ever gotten 1 sapphire and 3 rubies ... but only had the 1 sapphire drop for me. 3 rubies were part of a trade.

I got two saphire drops both from FoW in the same run.

I got a sapphire in FoW a week or so ago too

I got rubies and sapphires from underworld drops, as random as ecto drops.

I thought they were used for the Mesmer fissure armor.

Can any1 confirm this?

Rubies are dropped from the Carved Spiders in Fissure of Woe.
You can find them to the northeast. My opinion is that the droprate for those are 3-4% per spider

rubies most often drop in fissure, although sometimes from smites in uw
sapphires most often drop in uw, although also in the live forest in fissure

i've had a total of about 5 sapphires drop and 2-3 rubies drop for my 2.5mil xp elem
so they are fairly rare

they are not currently used for anything, but they may be later.
thy're pretty. and i sort of collect them like how some players like to collect rare gold fellblades

I was told that Rubies are used to make FoW headgear for elementalists.
Any truth in that one?

I got a ruby AND a saphire in UW in same runt his morning I almost Sh++, cuz I never had either drop for me before.

A few others were selling rubies as well , so maybe they upped the drop rate?

They seem to drop a lot in FoW, since I've gotten them there only.
