In the only two Betas I played in, March and April I saw a handful of colored items.
In march I saw salvageable armor that was a light creamy color, sort of gold.
In April I saw purple and Cyan colors.
What exactly is the colored text for? What does it identify? I'm a little confused, I know they probably have something to do with rarity or something but I am not sure at all...
Anyone out there wanna give a hand, please?

yes it is more of a rare item and the rarer (is that a word?) the item the more likely you get a rune out of it I THINK

Yea that stuff is very the first time ya see it.
I know the first time i got an item with a bluish name in it, I thought I was in for a treat, but I wasn't .
I am not 100% sure on what each means, cause I never bothered trying to find out, but I think the best way to learn and get used to the colors is by throwing out all of your previous knowledge of how rare and unrare items look.
I know i'm flushing all of my D2 LOD memories and experiences down the drain as we speak.

I'm not completely certain but I think that the cyan color is the equivalent of magical in Diablo II, and the purple color text is the equivalent of rare in Diablo.
Basically, the items with purple color text will give you a better chance of getting better mods (eg: cyan might give you a minor domination rune and a purple might give you a major domination rune).
I'm not completely certain (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) but I think that is how it works. Hope this helps.

From my experience I think it Was pretty random. I recieved a decent amount of each color, although I think less yellow.
I don't think I could draw any good corelation of difference, other than that cyan is less rare. You almost, if not always have to identify them before you expert salvage them. I think iv'e had a purple item that has no special after i identified it...
update: through my screenshots, I ahd a pruple buckler with no special ability, And my yellow salvagable was of major tactics, but it didnt' salvage out.

As far as Blue (magic) and bright yellow (rare) goes, they are designated. As far as the other colors encountered, I think the alphas and such will be able to cough up a straight answer in 1.5 days when the NDA goes out the window. I did encounter quite a few purples in the last BWE. From what I could tell in their descriptions they seemed as another class of rares. ( some things are just going to need to be waited on for definitve answers to their type-casting though )
