Robots in GW
Shagsbeard
I've gone looking in forums and not once have I seen a request that we could battle giant robots in some underground dwarven stronghold.
Am I the only one that thinks that the game design of sorrow's furnance is completely out of line?
If I wanted to fight giant robots I'd be playing some Japanesse game. That or give me some laser beam I could shoot at it.
I played pen and paper role playing before Gygax even thought to write rules for the thing. I met lots of different DMs (game designers). There were many of those who thought it was neato to stick robots, or lasers or computers or such into a fantasy setting, and I was often forced to smile, nod and note personally never to play in one of their games again.
I guess this is a bitter thread, for a bitter topic, but I'm really sick of seeing people trash an otherwise enjoyable game by stupid ideas like adding robots to a fantasy setting. It's like having the Lord of the Rings end with Gandalf summoning a nuclear bomb to destroy Sauron. It's just wrong.

how can you jump to the conclusion that its a robot? did you see circuits and other electrical equipment? isnt it possible in a world with magic, 6 foot tall dogs walking on 2 legs, 3 headed dragons and the living dead that it is a deamon in armor? or something else to that effect?
Mugon M. Musashi
you can see the "robot" as a golem

Might I refer you to:
THE ELDER SCROLLS 3: MORROWIND
It has dwarven robots in it. And they kick butt. I think these robots will rock too.

Did you do that Telvanni quest where Baladas gives you a Shock Centurion (one of the robots)? That was awesome, even if the thing wasn't that great at fighting.
Zexion
Yeah, and not to speak of the Numidium, power by Lorkhan's Heart (meaning he is not a real robot, as he is powered by spirit energy)

Mr Kippers
Ummm...are you saying that theres going to be a robot, or something that looks like a robot going into Guild Wars?
Krank
you mean no one has ever played the warcraft series and the gnomes?
they are technical marvels with their machinery, the equal to the dwarves in GW

Just think of the "Robot" as a Golem and you're set
And Mr Kippers, AWSOME avatar.
"Don't I at least get a Chumba Wumba song?"

It's most likely a massive golem... but I do indeed hope that it's clockwork. Clockwork totally fits in with the theme.

I would like to take the opportunity to point out the teleporters in the desert. Have you ever seen them before? Kind of non fantasy, eh? Remember, the Orrians lived in the city of the Gods, and were very technologically advanced. (hence the teleporters )
I would probably have a problem with the robots if it weren't for the obvious inclusion of this technological aspect in the lore of the game.
I've seen people griping about this in multiple places. I suggest they all get over it.

The Dwarfs of shiverpeak do use a fair bit of machinery, just look at thier mines, you see lots of gears n stuff. in the frost gate mission u do need to use lever to engage the machine to open the frost gate. furthermore in some quests you are required to steal or destroy plans for siege machine, what's stopping the stone summit from building a humanoid machine for defense or use it to mine the mines? Such machines are even more possible where they can be brought to life with enchantments, like golems.

It didn't look much like a giant robot to me, more like a giant golem thing in plated armor.
