Why no one buys stuff
evilmadboy
I have notice almost everyone selling stuff, but no one buys stuff, how can people make money if no one buys, and NPCS buy for so little
Count Feanor
Probably because the mass majority of people have no money and want to make some. Seems like only a few have 80k to spend on a sword and such.

I've found that the trader forums here are a much better way of getting stuff than the in game trade chat. It's like drinking from a fire hose... At least I can do a search here for items I want.

Some prices are too high for a good ammount of players, so they start selling to get more profit than merchant, to get those items.
As everyone tries to sell there is no actual buyer... so its a deadend.
Hopefully Anet will introduce some infuse to the economy in the upcoming updates.
Hoping by the way... its free... LOL. (at least for now. )

Mr. Matt
Most items up for sale (swords, bows and whatnots -- most runes and dyes are priced slightly lower than trader prices, which are still ridiculous but at least they have a basis) aren't worth a tenth of what they're being advertised for, but they try to sell them for that much anyway. And new players who have no clue how much items are worth see this trade spam and try to sell their own items for an equally ridiculous sum of money, and thus the vicious cycle continues.
I don't buy such overpriced items on principle that they're overpriced, especially considering the fact that you can find ALL of them for free by yourself if you can be bothered. I once bought a fairly rare sword for 500g, but that's pretty much it. Now if this game allowed you to craft unique items, then sure, I'd understand a little bit of price-hiking -- certain items really would be 'unique'. But not here.
As such, you have a bunch of people selling, but few people daft enough to buy. Why spend 8,000,000,000 on a sword when you can get that exact same item for free by yourself if you try a little harder?

Minor runes selling for 4 platinum is outrageous...

I agree with Matt.
Most of the items can be found out in the open, wether from collectors or just farming.
It needs some time but its totally doable.
If u have a nice guild is even faster. Cos you can have 50 people looking for the same item.
I also don buy under the principle of ridiculous overpricing.

OVER-Priced doesn't even tap into what is going on in the trade channels.
I usually trade in Ascalon City because you can buy the sme thing cheaper there. Yes, I know the reasoning they sell the same item for unGODly prices in Lion's Arch is that they firgure players have more gold by then.
Ranger/Elem and buy Bowstrings for:
elem strings = 500g max
zealous, poison = 2k max
Vampiric = I can never get anyone to even consider less than 10k for a 3:1, much less for a 5:1
Grips have gone nuts and I do not care if it is MAX!
My philosophy is if I find something good, sell it to someone who can use it, cheaper than anyone else (ie. Gold Max shortbow - 5k max). If no one offers anything - I sell to merchant and get on with the game. GW isn't about selling UBER's to me - it's about fighting UBER's!
That being said - I'll offer you 1K per Vampiric life stealing point, or I will find it myself.
Oh Yeah, Fortitude grip of 29 or 30 is not worth 20k+ while Fortitude of 21-24 is selling for 1-5k. Can the dif really be justified, for a lousy 6-9 extra HP?

I sell something at least 1 or 2 times every day and have no problem finding a buyer.
I hit ascalon, lions arch and change districts.
If you have your item priced resonable you will sell it.

that's the most important part of your statement....the problem is everyone wants every decent drop they get to be their 'cash cow'...so they charge out the ass for it hoping someone will be dumb enough to pay 100K gold for a +30 Fortitude Pommel....
it's sad that they're right

I think a lot is due to listed prices. If Black Dye is 30k at the trader, 15k is a bargain. Likewise if a Warrior Minor Rune is 4k at the Rune trader, anyone wanting such a rune would do well to buy one off a player for 1k. Unfortunately Trader Prices don't seem to reflect availability of items.
