do spellbreaker and obsidian flesh stop *all* kinds of spells?
eme2512
so, can you cast hex spells on someone with obsidian flesh running? or would obsidian flesh prevent its caster from being targeted by all the kinds of spells (hex, curse, normal, etc.)?
thanks again for answering these questions!

It would be anything that has the word "Spell" in its classification for both.
However, skills, preperations and stances that would effect the target all still work. Especially things like Shouts and Natural Rituals.
The downside to both of these spells is the target cant be healed because a Monk's spells would also be countered.

One way to heal a person with Obsidian Flesh on him, is using signet of Devotion.

do aoe effects still hit you? i would imagine they do --- you are not being "targeted" by a spell in the normal sense. btw about the healing, (as long as you're an ele) if you slap on armor of earth and obsidian flesh, and you have aura of restoration on, that's 60+50+20 armor and you're regenerating on average at least 15 hp every second or two from the spells you are casting. Nothing is going to do any significant damage to that. (you jsut can't move at all... lol)

It would depend.
If the target with Obsidian is the target of a Firestorm, the firestorm wouldnt even cast. But if say the guy next to him is the target, then yes he would feel the effects. At that point its no longer a spell, but rather a source of damage in the area.

Yes, AOE damage will hurt you. It's the way to kill Blessed Griffon as an elementalist.. target the one without spell breaker (if you're lucky enough)
So if the person has spell breaker / obsidian flesh... Flame Burst and Inferno will damage them, you don't have to have a target set to use them, fire storm, meteor shower will damage them (if you manage to cast them).

I think that's why there are spells like the Mantra's of a mesmer. To be able to ward off attacks that would come when their casting fails.
Also, you have to be careful of close range attacks that dont neccisarily have a target. One of my staple spells is Whirlwind, that just knocks down anyone who gets too close to me, so I can run farther away.

Really? Well pardon me but that's bullshit.
I mean, if the description says "Cant be the target of spells" then it should apply to all spells, just not your opponents.

Yay, and then we could make the skill completely useless! Gogo brains!
Also, read the skill description for spell breaker, it clearly reads "enemy" spells fail. The description for obsidian flesh clearly reads "enemy" spells as well.

Well Obsidian Flesh may be misleading since it doesn't specify that it blocks enemy spells only.
But Spell Breaker clearly does.
Obsidian Flesh (Elite) - For 8-18 seconds, you gain +20 armor and cannot be the target of spells, but move 50% slower.
Spell Breaker (Elite) - For 5-15 seconds, "enemy" spells targeted against target ally fail.
But Spell Breaker clearly does.
