Do you have any particular reason you want to farm tengu? In my experience, they are one of the harder mobs for their level as far as the damage they do vs. the difficulty in killing them.
If you want to farm, create one of those warrior/monk farming builds that are detailed in various posts in this forum. You can use the search function to track them down. Then you can farm griffons and such and get far better drops for the time spent.
BTW, I'm guessing that one of those warrior/monk builds will work for -any- type of farming, unless the creature involved has a way to disrupt the sequence of spells/skills used. If there is a better generic farming build than a warrior/monk designed for farming, I'd love to hear about it here.

Hmm... Well... Defense, and then effective AoE damage... looks like you got your combination backwards.

I think he is referring to the 4 packs of Caromi Tengu Elites that are located outside Riverside. Those tengu's have a very high chance of dropping gold and purple armors. They are ideal for rune farming.
shadykay: use the search function on for solo UW or tengu elite, they require the same build pretty much.

as i was farming today i noticed something very interesting. to prevent nerfing i rotate areas constantly. i have 4 main spots i go to. today i found more affective way to tank and am now taking on 20-30 enemies at a time (if that many are in the area). now i have noticed when i group them up and start the killing most die at the same time. no problem right....wrong. out of 20 monsters dieing at the same time 8 drops. so i switched areas and tanked the same number. again only 8-10 drops. i noticed when i was killing them in lesser groups more drops were given. also when i kill 20 at the time i notice it freezes for a sec or 2 then the all fall over.
wonder if this how the nerf bat is being swung cuz i just got hit by barry bonds.

The first few monsters of an area don't drop items, from what i've seen. Perhaps this is compounded by the fact that you zone frequently. Also, if you enter a mission twice in succession quickly, you'll see a warning that if you farm the first monsters of a map, drop rates will indeed diminish. Been that way for a while. The freezing thing is lag.

my spots aren't in missions they are all areas. i don't do them very quickly either i take about 10-15 minutes on each run. in an area that drops at least 1-2 golds when i was killing slow now drops nothing.

For God's sake how long are people going to complain about ANet nerfing their farming areas? This topic has been completely drained for all it's worth.

Thanks for the info, I figured there was a reason. This game is so nonsensical when it comes to drop patterns that it's impossible to tell based on difficulty/area just where you'll find good drops (except by experience or getting info from others like I just got here). I never knew about those tengus, for instance.
I love this game, but it's freakin' nuts. *laugh*

oh btw has anyone else noticed that you can see the monsters accually holding the items before they drop them. one time i saw a jade scarab running around with a the flat necro foci in his hand. just killed a tundra giant with a hammer in his hand. he dropped it when i killed him.

accually do you see my whining about it. the nerf bat is just a joke. i got enough gold to do anything i want drops don't really matter to me. my 4 characters are all set i'm farming for my guild to gain more money for them.
if you don't have any input then refrain from posting here plz.
i know anet is looking for botters and i don't want to do anything that might point me out as being one. right now its really hard to tell which is which.

Couldn't you have at least posted your comments in the countless other farming posts on the boards.
If your that worried about lost drops :'( -- do what everyone else is doing and make a "super-monk" -- but then you've probably got one already... as stated before if you don't have any good input then plz don't post here.
wanting to make my runs more effecient. wanted to know if anyone had some good tips.

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=28880 That's a link about a griffon farming build, which would essentially be the same type of build since they're going to be meleeing you. Try that and improve on it if you think you can. Then, post your results here if you feel like it.

well the only reason i asked this question was because that build used on the griffs doesnt entirley work... the tengus do too much dmg with attack skills such as seeking blade which cannot be blocked!! so atm i am working on how to successfully farm these monsters!

Try this build, its for W/Mo
01 Zealot's Fire
02 Watch Yourselves!
03 Orison of Healing
04 Healing Hands
05 Balhatzar's Aura
06 Healing Breeze
07 Balhatzar's Spirit
08 Mending
Activate Mending and Balhatzar's Spirit when you zone in, then run pass the group of mergolye mesmers and fishmen necros, ignore them, they can't kill you. Just heal healing breeze to heal you if needed. Let them live for they will charge up your energy to the max.
Once you came out and the lake is right in front of you, the Tengu Elites from the left should be approaching, wait for them, or lure them.
Then run off to the right side, where the second pack of Tengu Elites it.
When both group are locked onto you, activate:
Zealot's Fire
then followed by:
Healing Hands
then Balhatzar's Aura
Do not use your weapon to attack them as Spirit Shackles combined with Mind Wrack will kill you.
Instead spam Zealot's Fire using Watch Yourselves! and Orison of Healing, plus Balhatzar's Aura, they will just die in 10 seconds.

about the griffin run with W/monk etc i once went out with one warrior wanted to show me how he is doin it and i killed myself and he gatherd up all the mobs griffins and minos u know where that is etc. OK he killed like 20 - 30 oppponents and he only got 2 purple items and 1 gold item and i said to him
that i dont like to farm here coz i only get a few drops and they r mostly bad.
i told him about my place and explained him that u cant gather the mobs all at one place at my farming area coz the opponents run away if u walk to far but the drops are by far better even tho i just kill 1 to 5 at once i get 2-3 gold items per run and purple en masse but of course it takes me longer to kill them and to finish my run
but better drops are better drops but he was like nah if u cant gather them together its inefficient but i dont think so

There's already plenty of information and threads out there about farming and W/Mo builds. Try searching next time.
