No, you just need a pre-order key. It will work for the 27th and 28th, then you must use a full game key.

You actually can't play with just a retail key on the 27th. You will need a pre-order "Beta" key to play on the 27th. A whole day of early access is ANet's way of thanking the beta players for their support.

Okay so on the 27th you will need a cd-key for both the preorder package and the retail package?

No. If you have the pre-order box with the beta key, you can play on the 27th.
If you only have the retail version at this time, you will have to wait till the 28th to play.
