Why are so many people so inconsiderate?
Hakaido
I'm 30, been playing multiplayer games since back in the good old days of text based adventure MUDS... Ya always run across "the know it all's" but it seems like reciently every other person ya meet isn't just a "know it all"
They feel the need to bark orders, and even worse make others feel bad for not being 'as good a player' as they are?
Today my elementalist is having some fun in the arena in Ascalon. Character named Shadamehr Trevenic is constantly barking orders at people on our team. Ok fine ... every team needs a leader. However when you start insulting, placing blaim and degrading people it's not acceptable.
A fella dies, and gets chewed out by this guy. I don't know the age of the fella that died... but from his appologetic response of "I'm sorry" I figure maybe he was younger... Maybe a kid playing this game just to have fun and get away from stress of life for a bit... so now he has to take crap from some self proclaimed "GW know it all".... and spoil his fun...
It's not fair to the kid he tore a strip off of and it's not fair to anyone else that has their lilttle bit of fun ruined by him...
So my new side quest in GW and you should make it yours too...
When you come across one of these pushy, insulting, know it alls...
Make their life hard... make the game as not-fun as they have made it for the rest of the people they have come in contact with.
For a long time I was just ignoring the racial slanders, sexually abusive remarks, and flat out insults... but tired of it...
I payed my money for this game... and have the right to have fun...
Is it just me that is tired of 'those types' of people? or is it cuz i'm getting old and cranky?

The problem is that people have a degree of anonymity on the web not present is real life, therefore act in ways they never would face to face. Instinctively, especially for younger testosterone surging males, is to act out agressively following an inate need to attact mates by appearing the strongest.
The truest thing is that kids will settle you down, it changes your biochemistry some resulting in more parenting and less propogating, although this varies in degree with individual.
Hey, you asked.
Now, as for making others miserable for doing it to you... bad idea. It just spreads like wildfire in the anonymity of the web and will quickly deteriorate any situation.

Yeah, there are always inconsiderate idiots, just like in real life. Here's a list of what I've found so far....
1. "Know it alls", just like the one you described.
2. Quitters who join in a co-op to get the bonus or cap an elite, and just disappear once their own objective has been met.
3. Rushers. Not just people who aggro, but people who say they're ready, then 1/10th of the way through the mission, announce "Oh no! I forgot to bring x"
4. People who take the game too seriously
Now for a list of people that do make the game more bearable.
1. Team leaders who demonstrate, teach, allow other players to work to their best and lead otherwise difficult situations into glorious victories.
2. Experienced people who are happy to take newbies (as in newer players, not to be confused with n00bs) through missions, even if they may have already done said mission a few times.
3. People who let the rest of the party know they have to leave. At least they had the courtesy to do so.
4. PUG teams and people that can have a laugh together. (My PUG on Hell's precipice was one of the best! We got mission, bonus and had loads of fun too!!)

I've had altercations with spammers who I pissed off pretty bad and got called everything in the book but it did not bother me, I continued to expose his scams. People are always acting rude, immature and thoughtless towards others. Which is the reason (though they suck also) I hench if I can't group with people I know.

You know how hard it is to try to Zero in on one of those guys to click on them?
I end up healing someone that doesn't even need it....
And no I am not gonna waste a slot for Heal All either.....

"I have heard it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness," says Linus to Charlie Brown.
"That's true," replies Charlie Brown, "although there will always be those who will disagree with you."
Better to light a candle than curse the darkness...
wise words, Linus Van Pelt, wise words indeed.

When/if this kind of abusive player fixates their attention on me, I'll usually just apologize to the rest of the group, leave and find another group. Last time I did that on a mission, when I got back to the outpost, all of the other party members were there too and had followed my lead. We put together a new team without the bad apple, and had a lot of fun together.

Long Answer: Because parents seem to be teaching less manners these days.

The best thing to do with rude people is to simply not be one yourself. Of course, that doesn't mean you can't go to your guild channel and complain about them to your guildmates.

Did missing out on the co-op because of this behavior on their part render that part of the game eternally inaccessible to you at a later time, perhaps with henchmen, or people you regularly group with?
Is it a game, or is it memorex?

Wow, I just posted this mid-day and so many responses already....
ok after readying all the posts... 2 things come to mind.
1.) You all have a lot more patients and wisdom then I do....
2.) Ensign.... that picture... saved it to my hard drive for later use... very very funny and oh sooo true.
Yeah ok, I went back and played after posting here, venting a little bit. In reply to what someone else mentioned here... regarding demanding people as well... thats odd... my second character who's a primary monk... also was in a party with a Necro that 'ordered' me to heal his minions... actually he was a Necro/warrior combo... so of course he figured he could run in with the meat shields and tank... I was actually going to rez him, untill I read "OMG wtf monk... you suck... REZ ME"
.... kids today.... It was soo much better when parents could still legally give a kid a good slap when they deserve it.. It would save strangers from doing it multiple times later on in life.

Nah, just have the underpants gnomes run through and gank someone anytime they're rude.

Oooo what my mesmer wouldn't give for the Wedgie spell! Boy would THAT make them a more popular character to have in parties:
Spell: Divine Wedgie
Cast Time: .5 seconds
Cast Wait: 0
Duration: 10 minutes OR until ally apologizes for behavior OR until log out whichever is longest.
This spell can be cast on allies causing their armor to crawl up their personal fissure in such a way as to cause extreme agony. Affected ally lies upon the ground writhing in pain, their pasty white posterior available for mocking comments. As long as the enchantment is maintained, allies in the vicinity laugh uproariously and harass the 'wedged'.

I was testing a spiker build in the random arena earlier and kill one character. Then the other 3 players on HIS team type in:

Pure fun! Training does exist in GW, regardless of what the dev's say.

How exactly does that work? As soon as the unfortunate soul in question sees what happened, he's going to run right back towards the group bringing the mobs with him. You might be able to storm chaser/escape your way to safety, but what about the rest of the group?

At any rate me being the "monk", guess who died. lol A lot, we'd still win the battle, but, he would always be dead and I just couldn't resist ribbing him about how often he died, no wonder he wanted everyone to have a rez sig. Lol, well he finally just ditched us after much ridicule about what a bad player he really was.
Really GW's is like the last bastion of truely freedom of chaos. I see it everyday and mostly I just laugh at it or ignore it, or just don't heal them.

I rarely have had to put up with an asshat on a team, but one solution always solves the problem. When death occurs, and the power to revive lies in my hands, it's always thumbs down with a harty "serves ya right buttmunch".

On the Bloodstone mission, I was playing as my monk and we had this absolute, total flaming smacktard of an ele on the team. He flamed ALL of us, berating each of us for skills we were and weren't using. I put up with this for about five minutes before I whispered to each party member that I wasn't going to heal him any more. After he inevitably died (he was also one of those genious E/R's who thought he could tank thanks to Troll Ungeunt...), I pubically refused to rez him. After the resulting tyrade calmed down a bit, I very patiently told him that I stopeed healing him and would not res him because of his attitude, and until it changed, I would continue to not heal/rez him. This sparked another tyrade from said smacktard, to which I responded "Listen, bucko, either shut up and stay with the team, or go **** yourself and leave", which the rest of the party heartily agreed to. He fumed a bit more, left, the party thanked me for getting rid of the idjit, and we merrily went on and finished the mission
