So... Are there any builds that AREN'T cheap/skilless?
BigTru
Bare with me here. This is what I've gathered from various Guild Wars forums.
There was once a (primitive) time when Warrior/Monk team builds ruled over everything. People who didn't play it said that it was skilless, cheap, and overpowered.
There were Healing Clusters. Cheap and skilless.
Air Spikers. Also cheap and skilless.
Smite Teams. Very cheap and skilless.
Spirit Spammers. The synonym of cheap and skilless.
People who use Putrid Explosion (there is no such thing as a "Putrid build"). Somewhat cheap, mostly skilless.
So apperantly every team build in this game thus far is "cheap and skilless". This makes me wonder, if these builds are skilless, and most of you use one of the above builds, and you lose to someone else running the exact same build, does that mean that you and your entire team has no skills?
Because this game apperantly takes no skills, I was wondering if it should still be considered a game. We all know that you and your builds are the most skilled and "honorable" and that you (those who complain about "skillessness") always win against these skilless builds when using a similiar build, why even bother playing the game? Obviously you have the most skills and have beaten the game and have beaten everyone who has a specific wide-spread build. There is no difficulty left in the game, why not leave and stop complaining about how every popular team build is "cheap and skilless"?
Ok, so if you haven't senced the sargasms oozing out of my thread, I will explain. This is my little rant about people who like to complain about every build simply because a) they lost to the build, b) they aren't using the build, or c) they wish to fit in with all the other complainers.
Well, just my little rant. kthxbye.

There is a fine line between precieved overpowered and actually overpowered. The only one on your list that fits into preceived overpowered is air spike.

I wouldnt call them skillless, just stupid, but they work because you dont need a single brain cell to run a ranger build!
Theyre like ants, each of them dumb as a rock, but the collective works good.
You list 5 "skil less builds", they are nothing but the "most overspecialisated" build for each class, you just missed the mesmer. --- once again, you have to use your brain to run (and build) a more despecialisated build, because it does 80% less damage for the advantage of flexibility to hit the foes weak spot any time.
Now if you use your brain cells you EASILY can play builds that are better than all of the above.
I Eat air spike groups for breakfast with my protection monk!

If we lose to a simialr team, it's because they knew how to use their skills more wisely and know how to use their build properly. Just like when you lose to any other team.
It's not that they are cheap (except spirits). It's just people want an easy and obvious solution to them.
A lot of people can counter these builds, and most of them rely on a mesmer. When was the last time you saw a mesmer in a party?

And yes, I am seeing the Mesmers become near extict. Kinda sad... in the right hands, the profession can be very destructive to any build.
Ende
have no fear bigtru. just paid a visit to pre-searing, and unless all those players are new, prepare yourself to a new wave of mesmer characters. wait a few weeks and unless they wrongfully and stupidly give it up, we'll start seeing mesmers all over the place. now whether they know what they're doing... we'll just have to join them up and see
Aracos79
Mesmers are nearly extinct because Nature's Renewal probably screws them over harder than any other class. Other classes can do things without enchantments or hexes. Mesmers are very reliant on their hexes to do what they do. I'm not saying that's ALL a mesmer can do. I'm just saying that NR probably shafts them worse than others.
TGgold
I started as a mesmer. I was one of like, the 5 I ever saw in PreSearing at the time.
Anyways, I think that every build has a counter build, that's easily said. The problem though is knowing what youll be facing, which normally you don't know. So, most people are stuck with using little skill, but highly effective teams.

Mesmers are near extinct because energy denial is better than shutdown/interrupts especially under NR and you don't need to be a primary mesmer for that (secondary is fine for things like sig weary, edrain, and sig humility).
As for your list, whatever. When you take the opinions of idiots seriously a lot of things sound messed up. There are problems with pvp but not really with what you listed; it's much deeper.

This thread is cheap and "skilless."
BTW, skilless is not a word, and neither is skillless. Looks like your grammar and spelling skills are "cheap and skilless."

I think he means the typical spirit spamming/NR ranger build.
Racthoh
Mesmers going extinct? But they're so deadly. Virulance, Fragility and whatever other spells they use in that combo just drops me like a fly. Only thing I still fear.
Aracos79
It's hard for Fragility mesmers to do their thing against a spirit spam/NR build, at least from what I've seen. And so long as spam/NR is a dominant build, it will keep a LOT of other, more creative, builds down.
Sagius Truthbarron
People who say spirit spams are unbeatable have probably hardly faced one or they face them whilest in random PuGs.
Just join a Balance build team, an organized one can easily dominate any kind of build and is probably the best way to go. Besides, NR only makes you cast enchants and hexes slower, it doesn't destroy any you cast.

Aracos79
The increased casting time imposed by NR isn't the biggest problem with it. It's NR's "come into play" effect. In Magic we used to call cards like that "187's" and this particular one is too overpowered. How is a Fragility mesmer supposed to work when all his hexes get stripped off "mid combo" AND then it takes him twice as long to restart?
I dunno what's up with all the Magic references from me today. I haven't played it in years. Maybe I'm stuck in a flashback.

There's a reason they are called Flavor of the Week. Because it usually only takes a week for a skilled group to find a counter to group build. A diversified group is the best, because while you may not do nearly as much of one type of damage, you won't have a huge gaping weakness.
A spike group consisting of 5 spikers and 3 healing monks can be decimated by almost any group with 2-3 mesmers. I know I was in a spike group in HoH and got eaten alive by a couple mesmers.

Overpowered MY ASS. That is a claim laid at the feet of many players simply because of the 'power-gamer' crowd who want so badly to win at all mindless cost, that when they have their anuses handed to them they cry 'unfair advantage! overpowered!'
Arenanet knew what it was doing in pre-release, and they know what they are doing now. Just because someone cannot annihilate someone else in battle doesn't mean the skills are overpowered. It means the loser in the struggle did just that, they lost.
Cry me a river.

No other build allows you to build walls and BLOCK EVERYONE FROM THE OBJECTIVE. It also kills performance on even the highest of computers.
Are you telling me that was intentional?
