Allright I'm new to this, i actully just found out about this game from gamespot.com cause it was all over the front page and it looked interesting so i went to the main sight and it brought me here. Just got a couple questions....How good you think this game is going to be? and is it like Diablo sort of? and yes...and lol is it not playable until the 28th like the thing steam did with half-life 2

It feels like Diablo in many ways, but it also very different. There will always only be one Diablo, and this game doesn't pretend to be a Diablo clone.

As background, the producers of ANet are responsible for both Battle.net and the ground-breaking WorldEdit programs for Starcraft and Warcraft II. They are masters of efficiency, balance, and bandwidth.

The only things the two games really share are really well-developed classes and lots of baddies to fry in missions. You'll even recognize the "skill limit" from Diablo 2 (I'm referring to the setting one spell to a F-# key), as you can only take eight abilities with you into combat at once.

I miss the potion-fest portion of Diablo, but the loot is still good and the character customization is simply amazing. This is a must buy if you liked Diablo and a serious game to consider even if you don't.

Count yourself lucky if you just got in on the hype; we've all been foaming at the mouth since October when the pre-orders went out =P

lol yeah i know i was thinking damn im lucky i just found out about this now, cause that huge wait for half life 2 was so horrible! but im just wondering is this like a fairly easy game to get started on with understanding everything right off the bat? i man diablo was pretty strait forward but yet really fun.

I don't think your "sig" is appropriate for these forums ... there's kids here and stuff.

Its pretty easy to understand. At first it can be intimidating if you get grouped with people who know what there doing and you have to just kind of follow and not know what your doing. Thats at the academy that is. Pre-Searing (Newbies start here) is pretty easy to understand and its great to look at.

And by newbies I mean new players, not bad players. (Just had to clear that since you mentoned steam and all.)

This game has a learning curve... and the funny thing is... it never stops! GW is so dang deep that just when you think you've found the perfect strategy someone whipes the floor with you and you're back to the drawing board again! It's very addictive, but not in a bad way like most MMORPGs where all people care about is a grind.

That said, I think that the average gamer will figure out GW controls and gameplay mechanics within the first hour (understanding how skills work and are enhanced can take some getting) and figure out how to proceed forward in the world in roughly a hour after that. Two hours is truly a mark of ANet's accomplishments, because I've played some MMORPGs for TWO WEEKS and still feel like a no0b.

Best yet, there really isn't such thing as a no0b in GW. While some people will be better than others and some will be initially a little lost in the huge world, because the level cap is so low and the fact that anyone can make a maxed character upon buying the game you can be wailing away (as I have in the past) on people that have been playing the game for months!

Pardon the grammar, but I'm excited

this games not about leveling cuz theres only 20 levels then the rest u just fight each other and what not.. so its not very simliar in that aspect.. but a ton of skills to find and stuff or w/e.. but for 40 bucks CANADIAN u cant go wrong.. if i was more i would have just passed..

Yeah but I'm kinda worried about that only level 20 thing....and the a just starting player can beat a player that has been playing for ages....i think that's kinda dumb because then whats all that time spent into your charecter if..some new guy can whipe the floor with you....i kinda like the having to level up.

What im trying to say i guess is it's not fun letting it all be on chance....it's fun being so much stronger than someone and just pouding the shit out of them and them having no chance against you lol

First, tone the language down. Second; that's the point in a weird way, that if you are good you will beat people, and if you suck you can't hide behind 2000 hours of botting and demolish people. It's like the online FPS - even playing field. No more "stronger", just "better" - and every build has weaknesses, so you'll continually have to play with them. It has little to nothing to do with chance, except perhaps on who you luck out on facing. It doesn't sound like this game is for you though, you can't just expect to be powerful by playing, you have to think and evolve and play better, not just bot more. You'll never be in the position of being unstoppable, especially as it is a world spanning game - someone will challenge you and beat you, and you'll have a lot of very even fights.

i love the whole equal playing field deal. that is one of the most innovative things about guildwars, that in my mind, really makes it shine. an rpg with strategy, not repetitive grinding and long hours. just like he said, like an fps. you dont need to keep on playing to get good, once your good, you can pick it up every now and then, and still have skill with you. with games like WoW, if you dont put in the hours, every gets way ahead, which stinks. my only issue is the level cap, i really do with it was higher. you get such a sense of satisfaction when you reach that next level. by the way, is it particularly harder to level up in this game, since there are so few levels? or is it like any other solid rpg levelling system?

To say that a lower level player can beat a higher level player is taken way out of context IMHO. Sure, it's possible, but unlikely ... especially when we're talking extremes (more than 1 or 2 levels).

Consider this ... getting to level 20 is easy. The idea here is that "Ascension" is a realistic goal for even casual players -- so people who don't play 18 hours a day can compete (because equipment isn't a deciding factor in PvP either).

If anything, it's easier to level up in this game than others.
The whole point is that leveling is not the focus. levels 1-19 are essentially the tutorial and the real game starts once you get to level 20 and are officially equal with the other players. From then on it's all skill.

Yes, what should be said is that a character who has just reached level 20 is no worse off than one who has been at level 20 for three months. Except of course for the skill and tactics that the actual human player has learned from that time playing.
