EB games dropped the ball

Well I got a call to come pick up GW today from EB games in cambridge Mass. I go with my sales slip wait in line for 10 minutes because only 1 dude isn't on break then wait about 5 for him to look for it. He finally asks me to come back when his boss get back. So I leave head down to a Dunkin Donuts and have a quick coffee. I return about 20 minutes later and am told that the special edition isn't available today. I ask if it would be in before thursday and the response I got was if its not in tomorrow then I don't know. This is garbage. Why would they call me and tell me it was in only to tell me there are none in stock when I get to the store.

but the full version i got seems to be just a normal copy... they had 3 different boxes though... just different pics though.

At Gamestop we didn't call the customers when the games came in. An automated service from our corporate office did. This usually was great because it meant one employee wasn't on the phone all day.
Other side of the coin was that sometimes UPS dropped the ball. We might not get the shipment when UPS said we would...gets lost, is late, whatever. Then the calls have been made and there isn't anything to be done about it.
Yes, if it doesn't come in on time, get your money back or get at least a 10% discount on the game when it does come out. This was our standard procedure in such cases...along with much groveling.

Same thing happened to me. I got frustrated but there really isn't anything you can do or the store for the mistake. I have a friend picking it up tonight and then I'll pick it up tomorrow. Saves me another 30 minute drive to go and get told that their head is up their ass again!

I picked up my Reg. Edition today. One of my freinds came with who ordered the Special Edition. They said the Special Edition didn't ship as fast as the regular, wouldn't be here till late wednesday.

Best (im sorry, did i say best? i mean worst) Buy wouldnt let me change my preorder to collectors edition after they couldnt get the deluxe edition, so i had to cancel my preorder, and now just get there as soon as possible and buy it. oh the stupidity....

After going through the process a second time I was told by the idiot there that he didn't realize I had gotten the CE edition. I'm going to complain again tomorrow because the same kid said I couldn't be compensated for my wasted time and huge inconveniance! I'll complain again tomorrow and get this whole thing taken care of! EBGames may not be at fault but they are currently my problem and I wanna kick someone's butt and get my problem taken care of. Gotta love it when people are too stupid to realize the problems they create for others.

Yeah, my friend works at EB and I was the first one to get my copy of GW it came in right when i got there....They short chagned the EB though...my EB had aorund 17 peorders...and they only got 11 boxes =X seemstheres a problem with the distribution system.

It was not the home office that called it was the store itself. If it isn't in tomorrow or thursday I will pull my order and get the special edition elsewhere. I actually took the train to the store because the traffic in boston during night time rushhour is slow.

I work for gamestop as well we didnt get the CE in today either. how ever one of our district managers drove up to chicago to catch the regular edition so we could get it to customers today. other wise we would have to wait for UPS to take thier sweet time to get it to us tommorrow. least i was the only one im my store to reserve the CE so no angry customers other than me.

On the subject of EB.. anyone know if you can pick the box you want to get?

You probably can get a specific box if you just ask. I don't have a preference myself for a box as they just meet Mr Trashcan anyways. I'll have to call my EB and see "what is up" with the GW sales. Last I heard the street for GW was the 28 but that impression was created by the fact the server wasn't going to be "retail" until the 28th. Of course the debate over whether LoZ 2 is LoZ 2 or LoZ:Winwaker 2 is underway so I doubt the answer to the 27th or 28th would be the same amongst the managers. I hope corporate sends them an email to clarify. If the dev's weren't chilling their wine/champaign in preparation for the mass sign in tonight, I would humbly request a release for a FAQ of somesort lol.
So the CE folks are paying $20 more for an art book, a glowing in game thingy, and a CD? I guess if you are die-hard GW then that is the way to go.

I pre-ordered online at EB and picked it up a day early (4/26). Didn't even have to put a down payment or anything. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

I've been playing GW with the Pre-order which i ordered from CompUSA. I also ordered the actual game from their website however, they said it would not get to me until the 29th, not to mention they charged me sales tax (even though it's shipping out of state). I canceled the order of the actual game because I would rather pick it up from a store on the 28th as opposed to waiting another day for it to be shipped since im paying shipping + tax. Are there any retailers who will sell the game (or preferably the CE version of it) and e-mail the CD-Key to you right away, and ship the game out later? If there are (i know there are for other products) i would gladly do that instead because the closest store to where I live that sells it is an hour away (I can not wait to move back to NYC, kentucky sucks!!). If anyone knows of any sites that are providing this feature for users I would be greatful for a link. I appologize if it was already posted somewhere, I've read a lot of posts but I can't say i've read them all. Thanks =)

Went by EB this morning to pick up my copy of the regular edition, and they had an extra copy of the CE. So I had them cancel my original order and grabbed that extra copy. It also comes with teamspeak headphones, which meant that I didnt have to make a stop at Wally World. Will be getting off at 11pm eastern so I will be ready to play when it goes live. (oh yea my EB got their copies yesterday on the 26)

EB apparently had the most confused person in charge of shipping the game. My preferred EB only got the collectors edition and not the regular edition. Aparently every EB in town had the same style of shipment. Some other EB stored received only the regular edition and no collector editions. I wouldn't have had problems if I had broadband as downloading the 4440 files required to enter the training area would have taken until my beta test key expired.
I am also left assuming that after I downloaded the release front end I made a boo boo by not using my original character's name thus it is lost to posperity. I say this because there was this bald naked dude chilling out with no designation as to what he was doing in my account. I didn't delete him as I couldn't make out what the world a bald naked man was doing chilling out in my camp. However I do recall a posting here regarding not using your reserved name for your first character was bad. Bad in a way the name went bye bye.
What a disappointing and very teasing day it was yesterday.

The bald naked guy is just a placeholder that ensure nobody else takes your name. After you delete him, your name will be reserver for something like 60 minuttes, while you can create a new character with that name.

I go to a number of different stores, and they seem to be getting more cluttered, and PC gaming in general is seemingly taking a back seat to console gaming, at least in EB's eyes. The PC section for games is getting smaller and smaller, and it always a cluttered mess. Secondly it seems they hire just about anyone to work in their stores. It seems the people are either always taking a break, hanging out in the back store area, or if you happen to catch someone to answer a question they either act annoyed or clueless to any question you ask.
Lets all hope that things improve when the acquisition of EB games by Gamestop is complete.

Isn't the back of the store where they keep PC software
? My local EB has it hidden along the darkest wall of the store behind a column. Of course how much can any one know about upcoming games when the new release list on EB's website is about 30 pages long? Not everyone will know about every game simply due to not all games are targetted at all audiences. A lot of PS2 titles come out that are based on some animae(sp?) title that maybe 50 people in the states have ever heard. I just wish the EB folks could get internet access in the store so they could looks stuff up.Anyways... yeah, someone up the chain at EB dropped the ball something fierce on the shipments.

The problem is that most of the consoles are able to produce games much quicker, and evolve the technology involved at a much faster pace than the PC games we all know and love.
The folks that work at the EB where I live have been very knowledgable about new releases, expansions, and the like when it comes to PC games. Heck, they even invited me to join their guild here in GW
But, on the whole, most of the people who work at the EB stores don't know much about the games they sell. Its a major disappointment to walk into a store and not be able to get the information you want.

The Best Buy here was supposed to give me some card when I pre-ordered, which they didn't. So I was stuck paying full price for something I'd already paid $10 on. I won't be pre-ordering with them again.
