Hello, I just got the game 2 days ago. I have messed with a Ne/Mo and a Ele/Ne but they haven't thrilled me. Both are level 6.
I have been reading a lot about Mo/War builds on and off all day and night tonight when I have been online. Can someone suggest a PvE solo and grouping one that uses swords or axes and can solo/farm well too? Every farm type build I have seen that is Mo/War seems to use smiting for damage. Is smiting far better than weapons for Pve/solo/farming? I would like to be able to offer my group either lots of dps or a nice combo of dps/tanking and healing if possible.
Thanks all in advance. I am still REALLY n00b here.
Mo/W build question from noob

Sorry, but its hard to have teh best of both worlds. You either take a warrior for tanking, as monks armor isn't nearly as absorbent as a warriors, or a monk for healing, as a warriors mana pool isn't big enough for constant healing, and its missing the divine favor attribute, which contains the staples in most monk builds.
In PvE no one is going to take a healing w/mo over a mo/x basically because you won't be able to do both effectively. W/Mo for self healing + tanking, and maybe throwing the odd healing breeze at an ally. Mo/x for healing, protection, smiting.

eh smiting monks dont get parties, AT ALL, period... but solo they are good if you have the right stuff, do what i did, start out mo/mes and heal untill you gotta kill doppleganger, then change secondary to war and get all your stuff and solo away!

Hmm, I see. Ty for your replies. So the soloing/farming smiting Mo/War are just that.. for solo and farming only? I like the mo/mes idea. What would be a good build for that as far as where to put my points? Sorry if I am wording that wrong, I am still really really new to this.. what would be the best route? Healing, divine and inspiration? I dont want to just be a healer, I want to do some damage too. Would I be better to just lose monk all together?
I would like to solo and farm well and when I get in a group be a valuable member by either adding some dps or de-buffing, etc
The Ne/Mo I made is shaping up to be that I think as far as the grouping goes but the soloing/farming seems weak. I know I am only level 6 but it seems to lack punch. What would be a nice build to solo and group in pve that a beginner can use and run with and learn the game?

You want to put your points in healing if that is what you want to do but more or less then devine favour and illusion magic I believe or domination. It is true not a lot of smite monk get invites as I play one most of the time when it come to grouping I change to healing and use sword but it depends on the mission eg Gates of Kryta is a good place for smiting Monk and can use sword or an axe and then there is the black curtian and cursed lands.Player often think that Monks only heal but can do a little of both if done right put some into healing.more into smiting, devine favour, tactic and sword or axe no rating.
This is how I have mine set up for skills can't rember points of hand
1.healing breeze
2.orisons
3. mend ailment/never take it out
4.smite
5.warrior or monk skill or banish
6.balance stance or bonttis defense
7.zealots fire
8.restore life .
I have rune for smiting on my scalp armor and for healing on my arms armor or tattoos.smiting monks are underrated as well as protection Monks. When I play a healing Monk that is all I do just heal those up no fire my wand at the enemy only sometimes especailly when the party gets bigger.

If you want to farm, but also want to progress through the game, start out with healing. Join groups advertising you are a healing monk, and you will progress quickly. Once you find a desirable farming spot, take your points out of healing and put them into smiting. In terms of killing speed, smiting skills are FAR quicker at killing than any type of weapon attack skills.
Mixing smiting and healing is not advisiable, as if you're a healing monk, you should not be up close attempting to do damage, as the monsters will just attack you and leave you low on health. A smiting monk is most effective when surrounded, and in a group that can be difficult.
Taking along skills such as smite and banish as age suggested is only weakening your healing, and only adding mediocre damage.

Wow great replies, thank you. So if I go heavy on the healing for now anyway with monk to group and progress what would be the ideal 2nd prof to help me solo when I want and farm once I find a spot? Mes? Ele for dps?

What about a Mo/War that would end up with:
Healing Prayers 5
Smiting Prayers 9
Protection Prayers 12
Divine Favor 8
Tactics 2
Is that too spread out? It seems like I could heal for the group, offer some decent dps... I saw this one in another thread and it looks great imo.

I personally never spread my points out more than for four regions, and that's only if I'm using a lot of minor runes, maybe one or two majors, depending on the class. The bad part about being a monk is that you basically HAVE to put in 12/12 for Divine Favor and Healing, if you plan on playing with anyone. GW desperately needs a second, third even, healing class. The dependency on monks kills grouping and is a hassle for monks that would rather do other things.

Errr, you can have the best of both worlds as a Mo/W. You can tank and and heal fairly decently, but not with the 105 smiting build. Having Spellbreaker, Healing hands, prot spirit as well as numerous warrior stances gives you the ability to tank most mobs.

Well it has been working for me although just getting 1 or 2 others to go farming with.In most case in big party it is best ot have 2 Monks.
