"Gold and Accounts for Sale" Ads on this Site...

Whilst browsing the site, THIS came up. Not cool.

Unfortunately, because the ads are a service of Google, I don't think GWG has any control over what, precisely, is being displayed. Some of the ads are good and are for things I would use, whilst others are crap like this.

If this is a repost, then delete it, I apologize. But it's very difficult to search for something like this, "Gold and Account Sales" yields half the board in results. ^_^

Thought I'd make everyone aware. Fore more information on Google ads, check http://www.google.com/ads/

=/

NOTE: Looks like I was incorrect, these are NOT Google ads. Scroll down for admin's post.

What I think is complete and utter irony... is that ad showed up for me when I viewed this thread. Talk about the irony... a thread talking about crappy google ads advertising GW gold... just to have that very add show up...

Attachd is a cut-off screenshot I took of it. damned ironic...

Good thing I have an ad blocker. I love Firefox.

And I always wondered why that gap was up there... lol

I found the extensions pages and went nuts, there were so many good ones, although I went a bit OTT with the adblock and seemd to have removed the big GuildWarsGuru symbol thing from the top of the main page.

Haha. Go to Tools > Adblock > Preferences and remove the filter that causes that. Once you get a good grasp on how to use the wildcards, you can go to many ad based sites and never see any ads. It's great.

Aaah, Thanx, I wasnt sure what to disable so I just did it all. So I cleared the list and realised some stuff actually say img or ad in the names.

Take a look at the SS, I use FF, but I still see the ads I should get AdBlock.

Any comment from the site owners as to this issue? Nerf ads!

Isn't selling unofficial/unaproved strategy guides illegal? o.o

Oh I guess not. How do they manage to get a loophole for selling accounts? Same as the gold "you're paying for time spent" one?

*shrug* I don't know. But as far as strat guides go, they usually just compile info from fansites to create those guides. Since the material isn't copyrighted, I think they can claim it for their own.

Copyright laws aren't particularly well refined. =/

thanks for the ad pics guy, and I apologize for the ads, these ads were not supposed to be showing up, we had them removed and now they suddenly popped up again, and again I am in contact with our advertiser to get them removed, they're not Google btw

Keep in mind people, those ads do NOTHING to your entire performance on the forums. If you ever wish to help out and keep us around, the odd click on them always helps out the website!

Again, blocking them doesn't help the forums to load any faster.

Do you get paid everytime someone clicks on an ad? Do you get a small profit from them just being there?

Their CPC Ads, meaning its per click, but we dont advise you to click unless you're interested since that's fraud

But I also fail to see how refusing to be bombarded by someone else's pre-coded idea of what they believe I care anything about, is well, a bad thing on my end.

I come here to read about the game and the people who keep it breathing. I do not come here for amazon.com coupons, referrals for printing ink refillers, or ads that attempt to convince me, despite the virulent opposition to it, that buying in game gold okay.

Nope, that argument is baseless.

Last time I checked, you are basically a guest at our place (the website). If you cannot follow the rules and decorum (advertising comes with the site. If you don't like it, you will have the option of removing it in the near future. For right now, ads are there, wether you like or not), and turn off the ads 'because Im not interested' then you are a leech.

No one is forcing you to come here.

However, be that as it may, your site is one of the few of quality dealing with a game I play (in brutal honesty, perhaps it is IT, lol). Therefore, if I wish to be a part of it, and voluntarily come, then I am FORCED to view ads while I voluntarily submit to the will of the conclave.

I like the idea of a future ability to remove them by being a subscriber. I'd be on board

So until it happens, I would suggest people let the ads flow.

And SOT, I'm not sure if you know that stats that came out a while ago, but a lot of computer users actually work out in their spare time and whatnot. (What spare time, I don't know.) So ads such as workout ones could interest people if they could save a few bucks at their local gym.

The ads help the site costs reduce, you can imagine how much it would cost to have the bandwidth needed to keep the massive amount of people who visit every day from just crashing it. (Due to lack of bandwidth.)

Every few cents from an ad helps of course. Thus again, I encourage people to allow the ads. They do nothing to the performance of your visit to the site.

There are, undoubtedly, useful ads. I've clicked on ones about paintball, 'cause I play paintball. But whether or not the ads apply to me is generally hit-or-miss, because the chances they actually DO apply to me are near-nil...
