I was in the north doing the Elementists quest as a noob and just taking my time fighting the Ice and stone Elementals up near the ice cave in the beggining areas and as I took a break to take in the sites the music became very familiar. It sounds exaclty like the calm and soothing city scene music from Neverwinter Nights.

Is it common for games to use the same music or am I losing my mind?

You're completely bonkers of course

No, like Silmor said:

There's not that many people writing music for games, so you start to recognize styles after a while. For instance I didn't need to check to know that Mark Morgan, who'd made the music for Planescape: Torment, also made the music for Citizen: Kabuto.

But when you hire a composer shouldn't he write something different for your game? I mean the music is realy the same.. it's not even worth bringing up I guess but I thought it odd.

I doubt it's identical. It probably uses similar instrumentation and is a variation of a theme.

yea, alot of music in the game sounds familiar to the forgotten realms games but somewhat different...

It's basically the same setting....except all the forgotten realms etc. stuff is less...errr...light? Listen to the Baldur's Gate music for example....that's all psycho trumpet stuff....there's your difference

Ouch... If the music is identical, then either the composer has skinned the publisher, or the publisher has re-used music they already had the rights to. Probably the latter.

I would love arena net again if they added LOTS of classical pieces. Stuff like the entire 'Four Seasons' piece by Vivaldi, maybe "Ride of the Valkries" or "1812 Overture" as well. Would work good on Thunderhead Keep (Catapults and cannons are one in the same)

Once again I'm a free agent. Quality guilds ahoy?

I doubt that it is the same. It could have been inspired by that, and could be somewhat similar, but I doubt that it is a direct ripoff.

It is the same song..the same song you here when you walk into a town in NWN the same song you here when you zone into a new area .. The Flute and Harp song.
