Guild invites, how annoying sometimes :(

Really I think I speak for everyone where I wish they invites for guilds and constant messaging to join them would stop.

Now reasons for me not being in a guild are:

a) I'm not very to commit to a guild
b) Still running about the game myself, collecting skills,
c) Guild capes are still not toggle outside of PvP (Major reason)

Really if I wanted to join a guild, I would do so, I'm tired of being flamed when people ask if I want to join and a I say "nope" or "No thank you"

I tried of going to the Tombs and in the space of two hours I have 10-20 pending guild invites... all from people who can't even be bothered to speak to me.

That's the must insulting thing, they want to me join their guild but they can't be asked to speak to me. Funny thing is when I message these people, they always "Offline" meaning often they have set themselves on "private" mode in the friends window.

When I join a guild, it will be me who chooses, not anyone else.

Honestly though Just start your own "guild" of one, and don't buy a cape.

There is little to discuss on this subject, I believe that the majority here on the forum or ingame feel the sameway. Myself included, I can't stand random invites from guilds, or random group invites only because I'm a monk for instance.

Still, I think the most annoying part is where the most Random people actually whisper to you and ask if they can join only on one condition, if they would be officers right away which I find complete bull.

See now that'sa typically responce.

I'm not a loner and since the game forces you to have a cape in order to GvG, it seems highly unlikely I'll make my own guild without a cape, since there are plenty of guilds without caps already.

I found them a little annoying, but I guess I never got as many as you did.

The ones I find most annoying are the ones inviting me and use their "awsome" flames up the side cape design as a selling point.

It depends on what you play. My W & Mo gets invited, my Me, strangely enough, doesn't. The bastards.

The funny thing is that I AM in a guild.

Now, even if I WOULD consider joining a guild with members so dumb they don't know what the [DL] after my name signifies, I'd definitely never join a guild with so low standards they'd invite me as a member.

Another funny thing is the constant invitations to group. Especially my monk gets that all the time. Noone ever asks if I want to join, they just select me and invite. WTH is that? Does she really look that desperate?

Even though I've already got a guild I still get PM invites from ppl who want me to join theirs. Rule#1. If I don't answer the PM - one should assume I'm busy at the moment (which is usually the case if I'm in FoW) - but some people insist on spamming "Are you there?" , "Hey!" etc. As if harrassment would make me want to leave my guild for theirs.

Don't understand asking someone to join your guild without knowing who they are first, and if you would enjoy playing with them. Part of the reason why our guild is small (8-10 member) is that we are very particular about who gets an invite. Heck, since GW started, we have only added 3 or 4 new members that were either not real life friends

I'm the leader of Natis Ignigena, a no-cape guild.
Yesterday I wandered into Amnoon Oasis as my W/Mo with Granite Citadel Platemail and one of these plebs sees the armour (but not the [NI]) and asks me if I want to join his guild. It has capes and a hall!
As Numa says, there's no way in hell I'd join a guild that judges my character based purely on appearance, let alone the fact that my character was a W/Mo.
And I've always found blind invites a bit odd. You should at least play a few missions with people before sending them an invite.
Weirdos.

Well you said you weren't ready do join an 'actual' guild yet, so until you are, the suggestion to begin a guild of one sans cape is a good one. The best one, actually, since it's really the only way to get the invites to stop.

Just dissolve the guild when you're ready to join one that's got more members (who knows -- you may find some good people who want to join your guild instead).

I guess I still don't understand why you just don't pay 100 gold and just form a guild so that invites stop coming. As soon as you're ready to join a guild, you can just disband the one you created...

Capes are not only terribly animated (weapons usually come through them), but most guild capes are also terribly tasteless o_O

I think way too many guilds are so desperate for members, they spam you any way they can think of. So they usually end up with a lot of people who probably don't deserve to be in a guild. If they like low standards, good for them. But still, guilds need a good way to recruit people, so they can grow. My approach? I offer to help anyone without a guild. In actuality, I'm doing a small tryout, but people tend to like a little high level help. If they meet my preliminary requirements, I offer them a spot. And that's the only time I invite, unless someone is recommended by a member (who already expressed interest in joining). And I still have some play time with them, just to make sure. So I don't bother people, and I still find the people I want.

One of my pet peeves in any MMO is people who invite (to groups, guilds, whatever) without asking first. Even better is when they get mad when you decline.

Luckily in GW I almost never pay attention to the chat window so I really only notice the guild invites next time I log in

What I don't understand is seeing people in the desert, level 20 and wearing high-end armor spamming: "We're recruiting! We've got capes and we're working on a guildhall!" If you are that far into the game and that's all your guild has to show for itself, you need to rethink your stategies.

I've even seen idiotic character names like "Here To Recruit"... how desperate...

And yeah I've seen recruiters in high level areas as well. They just never get it.

The best way to recruit is probably to ask the guildless types that you partied with in tombs or noobs that you helped out with missions in Ascalon.

Or you could always be on the lookout for small guilds interested in merging.

I think the most off-putting guild recruitment statment has got to be:

"Guild Recruiting, we have capes and almost a Guild Hall."

If your going to try to advertise your guild on the strength of your cape alone, then i dont want anything to do with you, at least make an effort get a hall first or talk about what sort of people you are looking for.

Also as many have said blind invites are also a pain, just because I dont have a cape and a guild tag I must be a friendless loner unable to find a guild to take me, take a hint guys - if a Level 20 isn't in a guild it must be for a reason.

Well, I personally never spam invites for my guild. I would rather quest with someone, and get to know them before sending them an invite. And yes, if I quest with someone who is not in a guild, chances are I will ask them why they aren't in a guild, and if they would like to join mine. But I only ask them to join if I enjoyed playing with them, and I always find out why they aren't in a guild, and ask them before I send them an invite.

Being a leader of a guild, and the amount of inactive people, It is very hard to get people. Why? The freaking amount of guilds.

Anyways, I found the only good way to get a good amount of people that trust each other is to merge.

There's got to be a trial period for a new member if a guild is to be successful. There's too many factors like chemistry, activity lvl, skill lvl, willingness to help guildmates etc.

I think part of the problem is that it's too easy to form a guild. A guild should be something sacred, and you don't get much less sacred than hearing someone shout in Ascalon: "Can some 1 lone me $ for guild?!?1111!!!1"

Random guild invites without whispers or anything... gotta love them. Also, I've been asked ASL many times as my female character... you'd think these people would be embarassed to ask such things.

It's easier to get samll recruiting seasons....get to know them when they're in your guild and don't give em too much. If they don't like you, or vice versa...bye-bye...simple as that.

Not interested in capes or guild halls. Quality of the members is all I would care about. As I don't want to be in a guild anymore that doesn't really matter, but I'm just pointing it out.

Treat random guild invites the same as random party invites -- just don't. Any guild which relies on random invites for recruitment can't be very good, and they're obviously not polite either. Not much going for them, then. They get irritating, but there's not exactly anything either we or ANet can do to stop them, so you're best off just ignoring them.

My good friend and I were being asked by this fine young gentleman to join his guild. He would find us online and jump in and help us on missions all the time. After about a month we finally said ok we will join. Our guild was pretty lame being that it was mainly my friend and I that did anything in the guild. So we thought by joining this new guild we could actually do Guild Stuff. The fine young man that asked us seemed to be a decent teenage kid.

After joining his guild I got to know some of the other members. One guy was spamming me in the Guild Chat saying I have him on ignore. I was confused at first. Turns out I did ignore this guy like 2 months ago for being a little lying jerk. I didn't catch it at first, thinking maybe their was a glich or something. The fine young man of a guild leader asked me the other day what I thought of this "jerk". I told him what I remember from my past experience. I also told him I believe it is time to kick him out. (He is still being a Jerk) Most of his guildmates including this jerk guy are friends from High School. He is going to do just that. I am surprised at how much this Guild Leader actually looks up to me. He well knows that I am 50 years old and my friend is 35 years old. Like allot of young people they do Look up Too people that are older and more experienced then they are. This is why I never write off someone because of their age. It boils down to What is between the Ears that Counts. It flatters me when the Guild Leader always is asking my opinion on just about everything. He is looking to better himself not only in this game but as a young Adult. Not that his parents are not doing their job. My kids don't ask me my opinion all that much BECAUSE I am their Dad.

Well anyways since I have joined this guild I have really watched my own P's & Q's while online with them. When other players say: "It doesn't matter what age they are what sex they are..blah..blah..blah.." I say it matters a whole lot. This is why I always want to know Who I am Dealing with online. Since I am older (and supposedly wiser) it is my responsibility to set a good example for young minds.

ever saw a message in Trade Channel like this "WTS guild with cape and guild hall" that is lame for someone to sell their guild for 1k or more

But lately, it seem that guild recruiting is down and that almost everyone got a guild and capes!

Maybe because I hardly spend any time in towns just "hanging out" I never get the A/S/L question put to my female characters. And if I did, I'd honestly reply "Happily married man"

And though all the spam of "LFM Guild hall, capes and FRIENDLY MEMBERS" can be annoying after a while, no one ever asks me... probably because the guild I'm in, we have capes. The first guild I was in, I did some missions pre-searing with this guy, he had a guild so he invited me to join. Shortly after we both left that guild for a larger one he had gotten invited to. Eventually though that guild died, everyone left but the leader and myself, he was never on so I left it to for the guild I am in currently. They did a few missions with me first to see how I "behaved" its been fun ever since.

So, I recently (about 5 days ago) formed my own guild after hoping around and finding most guilds were not exactly what I wanted. I want to start by saying I find the constant spams annoying and I have no intention to be one of those guilds but I would love to hear (I have read some the already posted alternatives) what recruitment methods you would respond to (or did respond to). Currently I have been private messaging people on boards (who are looking for invites) about my guild, where they can find my website, and how to contact me. I have also had a few people from missions take an interest in my guild after we spent some time hanging out. I feel that I should be proactive in finding members but I want to make sure that I am creating a guild with a positive group dynamic that hangs out because they enjoy each other's company not because we are ranked high (not that I don't wish to be ranked well).

So if you have any ideas feel free to either answer as a reply or I don't mind pms, in game whispers (Night N Gail), or posts to my message board: http://doorsofnight.tollfreepage.com/forum/

Thanks for your input.
