Where the heck are people getting all of their money from? I hear guys talking about how they have 300k or more. That seems crazy high to me. I play a ton and I probably have not even been up to 50k yet. Is there another primary way to gain money than drops?
What I am getting at is the maximum amount of money in the game can only be as much as the monsters drop. So is there another way to gain cash other than farming?

Some people play the economy like others play the stock market. Buy when items sell low, sell when items sell higher than when they bought them.
A lot of people have money from before the nerfs, others have recently acquired a lot of wealth from the price reset last Thursday.
Many people farm, but won't tell you have the locations since most have been nerfed, or would be nerfed if they were mentioned on a forum that ANET checks.

I got a sigil soon after our guild got our hall. So I sold the sigil for 45k.
Found a Rune of Superior Absorbtion on one my skill cap sessions in Mineral Springs... don't have a warrior so sold it for $$$.
I also got "lucky" and had bought 3 monk superior runes (from the Sup Absorb $) that I was saving for my brother, who never bought the game, when the prices were cheap a month or so ago.
Sold them when the prices skyrocketed.
Basically, if you happen to get a nice "drop" it can really set you going forward. Remember... it takes money to make money!

The quickest way to make money is to have a good drop in the UW and then sell it for tons - but thats a rarity as well. Otherwise playing and farming and selling good stuff you don't need will eventually net you 100k or more - but you need to be aware of the value of stuff. My first real find in the game was a perfect 10/10 string that I salvaged on a whim from a crummy bow. I almost just sold the bow to a merchant. Instead I discovered that people are willing to pay 50-100k for a 10/10 string! Go figure.

Yes, I understand the idea of selling drops to others for high prices but my point is an economy can have only as much as is put into it. The guy you sold your item for 45k for had to get the money somewhere... so on and so on. So where is the magic money tree?
A quick way to explain this... imagine you are the only person playing the game. How would you gain money? Drops, right? Then sell these to merchants. So how exactly is it possible people can have so much money? Merchants don't pay all that much for items. I think i sold a couple items for 300 but that is rare. There must be a place that drops high value items like crazy. Otherwise, people would never have the original funds to purchase this stuff.
Another thing to think about... look at the number of people selling gold on ebay. How is this even possible? They deliver this large amount of cash within minutes and they do it for a number of people. How can they obtain this money for this number of people? Exploiting the economy maybe but that is only part of the answer. There is definitely more to it.
Something is definitely up and I am curious how it is being accomplished.

Early on in the game (near release and such), to buy sigils a lot of guilds were "pooling" their money. So if I had a sigil drop in the HoH, a guild may have 20 members each contributing 2k or so for their guild hall.
It probably didn't start out as someone having a huge pile of money, but rather someone started gaining huge amounts of money buy selling something. Then other people see he is making money doing it, and follow suit.

Well.. here's 2 points.
1. player trading - as has been mentioned, you can easily make money by buying low and selling high. Just go between cities/outposts & disctrict's and buy from players who are selling low and the going to where you can sell for more.
2. farming - this is where players make a build where they can go to a few spots and just "farm" drops. This is they go into an area solo and kill everything they can - because they are solo they get all the drops, which can make quite a lot of money in a short amount of time.
You also need to realize a lot of people made their money before farming spots got nerfed - this is certain regions in the game used to have a LOT better drops than it does now, and the monsters there used to be different as well. This meant farming for gold and items & runes and such was dead easy and made quite a lot of people lots of money in a short time.
The other aspect is you need to realize that most of the ppl selling gold on ebay are botters - this is they have a computer program running which does it all for them. they can walk away and leave GW running.. and the program will get them into an area.. fight monsters.. open chest's.. etc.. just every now and again the botter has to come and sell the drops to traders.. bingo.. instant money.. and constent flow of money for them with little effort on their part.
