I remember reading a guide for newbies which warned that if you go into another zone from the training zone, then you cant go back!

The guide pointed out some important things to do in the training zone to save you money and time later on, like picking up a healing signet or something.

I only managed to play for 30mins this morning, then on my lunch for 45 mins, but I seemed to be in a town full of missions and shops and areas to goto to complete missions.

I was hoping for a bit of training but i was thrown right in the middle of a mission which killed me (stop a raid or something)

so have i missed the training zone somehow or is it not there anymore?

the reason why I am worried is because a friend of mine who is dyslexic managed to wipe his secondary profession skills for another.. whilst im not dyslexic I do tend to skip text very quickly (due to time constraint) would someone mind explaining how its possible to do this so that I can keep my eye out.

much appreciated!

That is the training area.

Your friend can speak to the trainer if he wishes to actually choose (rather than test) his secondary profession. Please note that this will disqualify you (iirc) from testing out the other professions, and hence the experience those quests provide.

The "point of no return" is the Academy. When you speak with Sir Tydus after level 3, you can enter the academy and post-searing Ascalon. That's where the game "begins".

Yes, it's a large "training area", with many missions and quests, but when you are ready to really advance the plot and move on you enter the academy. It was (again, iirc) easy to accidentally choose your secondary profession by talking to a trainer after completing their mission; they ask in an odd way, like "Will you join with us and serve Ascalon as a monk?" or some similar phrasing at which point if you agree you are stuck with that secondary - they may have cleaned up the text or made it more clear that it is irreversible now, but I got suckered the first time thinking that sure, I'll keep trying this out...
