I have noticed over the past few days an increase in the number of people in Augury and other desert towns spamming the trade channel in search of bulk quanities of minotaur horns, forgotten seals, etc. Apart from using them as cash storage to avoid the $1 MM cap (wouldn't ecto or shards be better?) or trading them in for items to give to guildies or sell to newbs, is there any reason to horde those items? Just curious . . . .
buying min horns and other collector items in bulk?

heres an idea that might not be too far out of the obsurd ... they might actually want them for collector items. Not buying them all at once and ruining your storage ... but buying say 250 horns for discounted price ... then as guildies need ... they go get the item and give it to them? hmmmm ... wait I think it may be more cost effective buying 5 minotaur horns at a time.

Well, it depends on the collector.
Maybe it's like people who collect Frosted Griffin Wings. There's a big business in selling certain collector Air Staves or Crimson Carapace shields over in Ascalon and LA that can be had for griffin wings. I've had people buy as many as 78 Frosted Griffin wings from me so they can sell Staves or Shields for 3k-9k in Ascalon.
I'd assume it was the same with collectors of Minotaur Horns.

Salvaging minotaur horns doesn't make sense. They usually ask to buy horn 50 g apiece. So if you break it down to common crafting materials, it barely break even as those materials are rather cheap. Avoiding 1 million cap doesn't make sense either, as they should buy something more expensive like shards/ecto or superior vigor/absorption runes to take less space in storage. So the plausible explanation is buying collector items to resell. Anyone with any other new idea?

I don't buy them, but I use certain collectors items that I find (minotaur horns, bleached carapaces, huge jawbones) to trade to armor collectors and expert salvage the armors to get 5 or 6 silk or like 30 cloth. Probably would work out better with other classes, I bet you could get some steel with a warrior or something like that.

Ok I've tested the Mino Horns with expert salvage kit one gives you (6) bones. Pretty worthless, I've never seen bones worth much at the NPC merchants. BUT!! The collectors gauntlets yield (15) tanned hides and I have seen them as high as 15gp each at the bulk npc merchant, so while the mino horns are worth 25gp each (125gp total for 5), if one saves the tanned hides and waits for even 10gp from the NPC bulk merchants it's another 25gp, and if you wait for the 15gp price that's 225gp, which is another 100gp profit over just the 5 mino horns to begin with.
Clearly this is a traders game doing this, I have no patience for it really to collect and horde till the price is right, but, for those of you who will inkle out every penny they can out of the game, there's your profit door. lol
Personally what I do though is collect a bunch of mino horns and then make a henchie run to Mineral Wells, find the collector that is close to the zone in and trade for Ascalon Bows +15 > 50 and go back and sell them for 1k to 2k each. They are worth a lot more I think, but, I hate hawking and waiting on people to buy. I figure traders buy them from me at reduced price and resell them for 3k to 4k which I really think is a fair price for them considering all that one has to go through to get them.

people do the same thing in ascalon. they buy charr hides and give them to the collector there for fur squares and sell those. its easier than say doing drok runs or farming griffions and is a good way to make a little cash at low levels. later in the game buying items for collectors and selling the weopons is probobly the best way for say a mesmer (who cant solo farm anything) to make some decent bank. sure it takes a long time and its boring as hell but not everyone wants to build a farming charector.

i wasnt saying anything derogatory about the mesmer class i was simply stating that it is hard for them to solo farm. the same goes for necros and eles. caster classes are just too gooey and soft to solo farm efficiently. with the exception of 105 monks but thats another story. imho that build is broken but thats another discussion entierly.
