Best way to recruit people ?
Gerbill
I've got a very small guild, only like 6 members or so, and I'd like to get more.. but I don't just want random people in my guild..
I told my 2 officers to get members aswel, and the way to do it.. would be to party with people in coop missions or team arena's and then invite them to our guild if they play alright they dont' have to be masters just average players will do, they don't have to be online 24/7 either.
But the thing is.. you hardly ever find people who are not in guilds and are reasonable players.
where to find them ? >.>
cuz if someone offers somewhere to be in a gulid, they'd choose some rich guild and big more likely than a small guild which isn't too rich (have a guild hall n stuff though) and not too many members.
Because right now the members we have.. are hardly online which are only like 3.. and then the 2 officers and me. And the officers and me are online quite a lot compared to the rest, especially I am online a lot.
But the thing is with 3 people and 4 henchman in a GvG you don't stand as much chance as with 8 reasonably- to good players.
Does anyone know a way to recruit reasonable players.. as in how to find out they are.. and how to find ones that aren't in a guild yet..
Our guild requirements aren't much either..
- just be online regularly if you miss a day every now and then it's fine
- preferably laid back people who don't want to have everything right there and now.
- respect guildmembers and don't scam people.
that's bout it.
we're mostly a PVE guild who also like the PvP aspect, but we haven't done much yet.. mostly because of lack of members, we've had 1 guild battle with 4 henchman 4 members and we won that.
anyone got any suggestions ?
btw.. we're a european guild.

i started a guild with a few friends. i got my first few members helping out a lvl 10 as a lvl 20, it impressed some of the lower lvls lol. then it just tends to snowball. do funny things.
like i once merged with another guild when me and this monk in our guild started sync dancing in sanctum cay. pretty soon it was 6 monks sync dancing. then we did the mission together (FYI it was hella easy with 6 monks), then it just so happened that two of the monks were in a guild and that they were looking to merge. voila, + 5 members. that stay.

A lot of people go to Pre-Ascalon, Ascalon, Lion's Arch, and Droknar's and drop their "Guild Ad" and expect people to instantly reply.. Sorry, doesn't work like that.
My guild has similar troubles in attracting people to our guild.. Afterall, what advantage do they have to join our smaller guild than a large guild with many people?
The key is to make your "Guild Ad" unique. Try to state exactly what you are looking for instead of doing the usual.. "So and so guild has cool capes and a cool guild hall. PM me to join". Just make it more interesting, and I promise people will respond.
It's also important that once someone responds, make sure you get to know them first. If they seem like they'd be a good fit, invite 'em. If you are even SLIGHTLY unsure, don't invite them. You want the best people you can find that fits YOUR specific guild mold.
Again, like another poster said, play with other people. If someone asks for help, help them. Be friendly, talk to them, etc.
**Above all, DO NOT invite people that are looking for rewards for joining!.. Ex, people that want money to join your guild. It just isn't worth it in the long run, as I've found out myself. You want people that want to join and that will contribute to the guild.

The way I used to recruit is do a mission, preferably something post ascension, and if I was impressed I'd send an invite afterwards. No way to tell how someone plays unless you're there with them and they don't know you're grading them. I pay close attention to how well the person works with others...do they listen well(+), do what they're supposed to, heal when needed, etc.(+), or are they always aggroing the wrong mobs(-), rush off without waiting for the group to catch up(-), doing what they want to do without regard for the rest of the group(-), or my pet peeve...grab dropped items while in the middle of a fight(-). Those are a few points I look for, maturity would be another, which usually is reflected in how they play(selfish, patient, etc.). HTH

At the moment, my guild isn't looking to recruit but when we do we usually drop ads like (Yes people can use this) : (Guild Name) is now recruiting. We are an English based PvP guild, using TS. To apply visit (insert web address here/ or whisper me for details). By having the website URL it attracts the more serious players.
If your guild is based on having fun and not so much on the competition/PvP based side of things try an ad like : Join Today and recieve a free care bear!
-Hope that helps a little

I think guilds who spam for new members are going about it wrong. If you want new members, make sure they are good first. For example, you are doing Thunderhead Keep, and the monk is doing an amazing job. Look, he/she is guildless! Send them a whisper if they would be interested in joining you.
Same with PvP. Do the 4v4 arenas, with 3 guildies and one random person. If they happen to be guildless, ask them if they are interested.
The pro to this is that you get to experience what kind of player and what kind of person they are. You probably don't want people who scream "OMG HAX" when they lose...so I wouldn't recommend random recruiting in ascalon/lions arch.

I'd say spamming in the guild chat is still okay, as long as you have some sort of screening process for the recruits~

What i used to do was go into any town and hold down ctrl. If i found someone without a tag name next to them i would ask them whether they wanna join a guild or not. Then i mission with them or do whatever they what(quest, farm) to test out their talent.
Hope that helps

I had a untagged new character in Frontier gate or some other early mission and a level 20 was there looking for non-guild affiliated people to assist. While he was not actively recruiting, I think that would be a good recruiting method. Help some folks out and get to know them, then offer to invite them to your guild if they seemed alright.
Sporky
I ignore "[Guildname] is now recruiting, we have a cool cape and guildhall, whisper me for details" messages by definition, and my answer to spam-whispers "Want to join our guild?" is always no.
A guild that spam-recruits like that sends the message that they want warm bodies to fill up their roster rather than quality players.
Try offering to be helpful. Look for the people with slightly low levels or slightly crappy armor and no guild tag and ask if they want to join you for a quest or two. It may take a lot of time and energy, but great guilds made up of great players rarely just suddenly materialize. Of course, you may get lucky, but it's far more likely that you'll wind up with a bunch of idiots.
Basically, I see two options: you can either spam-recruit and filter people out after they join, which may actually alienate the better (or at least more experienced) players who don't want to join a zerg guild; or, you can grow in size more slowly and with much more effort, but be assured that only good players are in your ranks.

If you "spam recruit" using a unique guild ad that specifically states what type of player you want and what type of guild you're in, the people you want to join are more likely to respond. Unfortunately, I bet most people still ignore most of the guild ads, predicting most of them will be the same stuff. Like Sporky has said, helping people out on quests & missions is the best way to recruit if you consider that most people aren't looking at guild ads.
However, don't become the creepy guild recruiter in Pre-Ascalon that constantly spams "WHO NEEDS HELP ON A QUEST?!??!".. If they offer, respond in a PM politely that you are willing to, or if you want to offer help to people in the general area, offer help ONCE. Offering to help more than once (in a forceful manner) can be even worse than "spam recruiting".
If you are "spam recruiting" or helping people out on missions, your first priority should be to get to know them, and see if you get along with them(this is atleast in my experience). I'd rather have an unskilled/new player with a good personality than an "uber" player with a bad attitude. These people with bad attitudes often do more harm than good, no matter how "uber" they are.
Remember this, atleast: Skill as a player can be developed, but personality often cannot be changed.

Thanks for your help people =)
last sunday our guild took in a newer and younger guild to merge.
We knew the guildleader from another game and he's a solid player, we don't know about the rest yet, so im currently filtering them out etc.
And the guild that we had with the few members are mainly around lvl 20 so we're helping them out now, the new members that is, since they average around lvl 13.
I don't mind doing this at all it's a good way to get to know the members aswel.
I don't like spamming anything even in the trade channel usually I only offer things twice and then I'll stop and try again later. So for me that's not really an option, I've set up rules for recruiting for my officers.
And now we all basicly take up some time every other day to party with some guild-less people and see if they fit with our guild.
these ideas posted here helped a lot =)

Something I do to attract people in my guild is to go on quest in Lion's Arch with 3 other guild members. Then, it takes a while but I spot players looking for help who are not in guild yet. While you are doing the quest, your leadership combined with the sight of the capes will excite the two new players in being part of your guild.
This way of doing is a lot more worthy than blankly ask people to join (Think of your reaction when tele-marketters call you at home to sell carpet cleaner).
As for reasonnable players, if you want to have loyal guild member, first, don't be pushy with them. 2nd, Some might need time to think about it. 3rd, You can also add as your guild requirement to have the future guild member to pay for their enrolment (small fee, maybe the 100gp now required to invite a player). If they are excited about your guild, they will pay.
Hope this will help you out.

Make friends. Takes awhile, but least you might have decent and dependable players in your guild.

We have never actively recruited, ever. We just grew out of a few RL friends at the beginning.
One of our members was found while an officer was giving stuff away in Ascalon. He was so appreciative and like-minded, they ended up talking a long time. Eventually he became an officer too. He had a friend, so he came on board also.
We help guildies a lot in missions, and the random people we get to fill out the group are pretty impressed when they see a guild that helps each other, and then they ask to join us. If we liked them during the mission, then they get the invite.
I'm sorry I don't have any advice about recruiting/retaining members for heavy PvP guilds. We are very casual in that regard, we are not looking for uberleet players, just nice cooperative fun ones.

i recruit brand-new players out of pre-searing. that way all thier in game attatchements will be to my guild and the players in my guild.
afterall, what motivation does a lvl 7 hoh player with 50k faction, 10 mil exp between thier chars, 3 accounts and a net worth of 50 million gold have to stay in my guild?
answer: none
the seccond your guild loses rank, or they dont get thier way, they leave. but when all they know in the guild wars universe are your guild members then leaving it means they are on thier own for the first time since they opened the box.
it instills loyalty, and you enjoy the company of your guild members more if you grew as a player with them.
i cannot recall a more exciting moment for my guild than coming up with the 30 od thousand for our sigil; it was a big moment for everyone; and things like that are mundane details for veteran players.

I prefer having a small guild than a large one. But sometimes if people don't come as often as you like, it kind of gets lonely.
I view a guild as a online game family. You help each other, make fun of each other, if someone is needy, you give things to them. If you have a trustworthy group of people, I wouldn't spend time worrying about trying to recruit others so soon. Just play, make friends.

while i have bought droks for every one of my members for thier very first char, i do not advertise this fact when recruiting someone; the kind of member that EXPECTS free items is not the kind of member im looking for.

Recruiting decent people…
There is only one way of doing it and it’s not in game, I haven’t heard once from a decent player that he just joined a guild because he liked the sales pitch he saw going by in the chat channel in Lions Arch or anywhere else for that matter.
The best suggestion I can give you, go read the Looking for group thread, pick the ones you like, send them a little pm and try to get together in game with them. Once this is all done if you like the person, you can try and recruit them, you will probably get much better results that way, than spamming in L. A. that you have a nice guild looking for people.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm an officer in my guild, and I for one think it's cheesy to standing around spamming random guild invites. Finding random groups in low level areas or offering to help on quests when you see someone asking for help can really work out good because you get the opportunity to know the people first. Alot of players that are currently in guilds are actively looking for a new guild, but just dont like all the spam (telemarketer) invites, because most of those guilds doing that are poor quality. We invited a young person in our guild last week and we are still feeling him out. I was standing in Yaks Bend and he whispered me to find out if we are recruiting. I talked it out with our guild leader and the other officers and we decided to give him a chance. Most of the players in our guild are older so I'm not sure how he will fit in, but I dont like to judge people based on there age but rather on there attitude and willingness to learn. He's only 13 years old, and a little eager to run into battle, but so far he seems nice enough, so I will try and give him some tips to play well and teach him to be patient. It's like any other kind of training, you cant expect people to be good over night.

3) To manage people effectivly you must do it in a way that protects or enhances there self-esteem.
4) Everybody approaches every situation with some concern about "Whats in it for me?"
5) Everybody prefers to talk about things that are important to them personally.
6) People hear and incorporate only what they understand.
7) People like, trust, and believe those that like them.
