W/Mo and I don't care
SOT
K...I am pulling off the fleece now...
I keep running into these absurd comments (here and elsewhere but MOSTLY, as usual, HERE) that warrior/monk characters are created and maintained by noobs, idiots, morons, blah blah blah.
What I am not hearing, is why. When I say this, I mean the truth. The real meat and potatoes of it. People love to point out how hard it is to actually kill off a w/mo, and how annoying it is to face one in matches because of their "ubergodchristlikeoverpoweredness".
Well, I couldn't care less if you hate it! I firmly believe in doing the best you can with what you frickin have in front of ya, so if I kick your ass to the pond in a map, eat my apathy with icing!
For me, this is not a build popularity thing. My main character is a w/elem, and he will kick the same amount of ass, in less time. I think it all comes down to people hate losing, and will sit for what seems like HOURS, coming up with complex speeches on why mankind is doomed...all because...they get their ass kicked..again and again...Losing to my build doesn't mean I am a noob (which is still not a word, no matter how many morons argue against it) It means you hate to lose, and I pity you
Anet may at some point rebalance those two combined classes out of their current state into something more friendly to the 90 or so people who feel so threatened by it. Until then, suffer in my name.

I rarely use "enchantments". I also do quite well in PVP and PVE both, so try harder next time when making assumptions based on idiocy
Mr. Matt
Warrior/Monk is an effective build, hence its popularity. Why people insult W/Mo users is beyond me -- perhaps frustration, perhaps boredom, perhaps just to appear non-conformist. Peer pressure? Who knows. Ignore 'em.

Real meat & potatoes: people think high armour + self heal = INVICIBAL.
Time and time again when new players ask what the strongest class combo is, they get to hear "W/Mo". People stop looking beyond that, and see everything else as inferior, blind to what else the game can show them.
The problem with many warriors, apparently like yourself, is that all they care about is ASSKICKING!!!!1. Their power. Their kills. They believe contribution to a team equals outpacing everyone else. They don't mind if a mesmer wants to make funny purple glitters over their shoulder, as long as everyone recognizes he is the engine to the team's success. If he is the last man standing in his team, it's clear that his build was simply better than the losers that joined him - why, he didn't even get hit throughout the match! - and because of his teammates dying, he is forced to admit defeat at overwhelming odds. Not his fault, clearly.
Also, W/Mo is not a build. It's a class combination. Part of what makes W/Mo's so loathed is that they frequently screw up their build (i.e. their attribute distribution and skill selection) and simply rely on C+Space to do the talking for them, instead of doing some actual thinking before and during the fight.
People calling W/Mo overpowered need to get more clue in the game, but that doesn't change that the majority of W/Mo's are pretty damn clueless themselves. It's just a braindead simple class to play, that's why it's popular.

People tend to insult W/Mos because they're well-known for being self sufficient, so you encounter them debatedly more than any other build. New players will often ask, "What's the best build to start with?" and people will tell them, "Warrior/Monk." Hence, you get a lot of players that are not experienced with the game or that will soon find this is not their kind of game in the position of partying with you as a W/Mo. As such, you get a lot of Leeroys that have been used to being nigh invincible on their own, now with other players in more dangerous areas, rushing into a mess they can't begin to understand, killing everyone. As such, you have to prove you're not an idiot as a W/Mo rather than having the liberty of proving you are one.
That's why. I play as a W/Mo as well, btw. Female W/Mos don't seem to get as many problems.

You're part of what gives warriors such a lousy name. |
In point of fact, I am not that impressed with my ability to kill every living thing on a PVE map, nor my ability to annihilate most builds of unexperienced players who attack me with arrows. Were that the case at all anyway. I myself am usually the first one to DIE in a match. My guild is most likely not even LISTED on the "ladder of omg we ownage it", and I honestly could not care less at this point and time, as I am still learning all I can about all aspects of the game before I plunge into serious competitive play. My guild is huge, and we are all playing regularly, but we basically are not competing seriously yet, and that is ok with me. Point is, I rarely get the same team twice, and I have to listen to a lot of BS about my build. It is even so bad that most of the time, at least ONE or more persons will leave the map before the match starts, so if I am actually the last man standing, it is sheer miracle, and not my lameness as a "I have to kick asses" spouter. My ass kicking sentiments were there for sarcastic effect. People hate to lose, and feel the need to either abandon a perfectly balanced team because I exist in the list, or because they cannot emote a fistshake when laying dead on the ground because they cannot hack it.
My point to this thread was to basically piss in people's face about their venom directed at a player simply because he or she may enjoy playing as a warrior/monk build. The game has that potential built in, and because of that, I use it to my advantage, and basically got a little tired of hearing the bitching about how my class decision somehow makes me 'cheat'. That is literally the unspoken motive for people's whiney behavior about w/mo. If ya can't beat em, then try em

Ah okay, so you're just whining about whining. I play a W/E from time to time as well, make sure I play a proper role in my team, and I know they can be valuable despite what many people claim about Warriors. I still don't see the point, there's as much threads from people claiming Warriors need to be buffed to 2x their current strength in order to be competitive as there are threads claiming Warriors are overpowered - you probably hear the CHEAT/CHEAP accusations mostly in-game, from people who have no idea what they're talking about. Water off a duck's back normally, but you seem to have taken it personally, which is unfortunate.
And it's spelled 'dictionary'. I recommend using a... ah, never mind.

Irregardless, your attitude is so negative that I believe you've lost any hope of effectively communicating your point. I believe that your statements are going to alienate those who are friendly to your argument, and turn everyone else firmly against you.

Auntie I
I have seen good Wa/Mo's and I have seen bad ones. The good ones were VERY good and the bad ones died a lot. This is to be expected because the Warrior Monk is suggested so often to people starting out. It takes a while to learn how to play ANY character. I think that the Wa/Mo is probably the easiest to get started on but the most difficult to master simply because it requires the player to shift their thinking from "Kill them all" to a more tactical point of view.
The role of the warrior changes according to the make up of the group, the monsters/enemy that will be faced and the skills brought to the battle. Getting locked into one point of view will always result in problems. This is true on both sides. I have great respect for warriors that work with the team and no respect for the ones that run all over that place and get themselves and everyone else killed. They are the ones ruining the reputation of the "good" warriors.

The use of A monk secondary is quite brilliant for A Warrior.
Why?Smite Hex and Mend Ailment.
With these skills..I'm able to get rid of the Conditions and Hexes that can Thwart a Warrior quite easily.
But, Hell, Your opinion is your opinion.

You also know damn well what happens everytime I DO actually specifically address someone with whom I differ in my approach. Usually you pop up, prophecy and all that crap. But it's cool, you're just like that.
As for griping at others who have no issue with my comments, share that quote please, because I don't see it.
And as a final comment, the ailenation you claim I produce? Um, read more around here. It is not that cut and dry, but I sincerely believe you already knew this. Once again, see first sentence in this post

Agreed, Diomedes. There's seemingly no way to discuss this issue rationally without insults to others' intelligences, "pissing in people's faces" (that's a nice image), talking about "kicking ass", not caring, yadda yadda yadda. Basically, this discussion is going nowhere. Bad attitudes on both sides of the fence can't seem to discuss the issue rationally.
