Everybody is Persectuted....

When I was a starting monk I used to think we were the only persecuted profession in the game. Well, after playing other classes I can rightfully say that every profession feels marginalized for some reason or another.
So, for the purpose of equality, I submit a list of reasons each profession feels persecuted - just so nobody thinks they're alone:
Monks-
-people gripe about how you can't heal/rez fast enough. How often do you hear - "I didn't get one heal -> you suck, monk!"
-when you do a good job your services are often taken for granted
-now you're resented more if you happen to be a 105/55 farming monk
-people think you have an infinite supply of energy
-Warriors hate you
Warriors-
-You W/Mos are accused of being unoriginal and n00bs because of the popularity of the build
-Since there are so many Warriors it's not always easy to find a group - "We already have 3 tanks - don't need another."
-People assume you're the one who aggroed everything
-Casters get mad because you can't block 9 enemies at once and protect them
-Monks hate you
Elementalists-
-Monks think you're a waste of healing because you take so much damage
-Between battles everyone acts as if your recharge times were zero
-You seem to be the last to get rezzed
-You're doing all the real damage but the Warriors act like they're the only heroes in the team
Mesmers-
-Since you're not a tank, healer or nuker most PUGs aren't interested
-You seem to be the last to get rezzed
-The only reason why that monk-boss was shut down was because of you - but you'll never get credit for it
-For some odd reason PUGs don't seem to listen to your advice (even though you might know the mission better than anyone else and have completed it as a Monk and Warrior before)
-Not a lot of "Godly" Mesmer stuff out there, it seems - even in the trade chat in LA
Necromancers-
-People think you're useless in UW and FoW - good luck in collecting Ecto if you can't find a party
-Even if they do choose you - it's only if you can bring Blood Ritual and/or Well of Power to help the monk(s)
-Since you're not a tank, healer or nuker most PUGs aren't interested
-People are always pissed because your minions are in their way
-Nobody says how cool your armor looks - but everyone will notice the Warrior's FoW armor or the Mesmer in lingerie.
Rangers-
-Even less popular for PUGs for UW and FoW than Necros
-People hate your pet
-After you place a trap and everyone agrees to have you pull the enemy - one fella ignores you and charges in - then everyone else follows to help him
-You drop Symbiosis and Fertile Season - and people say, "Hey! WTF? I have 1,024 health! Must be a bug in the game, cool!"
-You run in to pull a Shadow Monk with your bow - and then turn around to see that some W/Mo followed you!
-Nobody's nice to you until they realize you've got rez and you're the last one alive
-Since you're not a tank, healer or nuker most PUGs aren't interested
See? You're not alone. So suck it up and let's just play the game.

The pulling thing is even worse. I've had people complain when multiple groups come forward. I'm sure it had nothing to do with them running forward like a henchman that wasn't called off on time.

Wow dude, well said!
The best thing to remember is: Diversify your PUGs! You'd be suprised how well a group can work together without having 3 tanks, 2 monks, and 3 nukers.

Necros can deal heavy dmg and never run out of energy if they are played right.

awsome post, I can so agree. Many times in a group, someone has yelled, "Stop standing around and cast fire storm! or Meteor Shower!" to which I simply click on my energy bar Energy 12 of 70 to explain that since they keep running from fight to fight, eventually I'm running out of energy casting meteor shower to knock down their attackers. I'm working on a mesmer build I think will be mesmer just for looks... and use a secondary skill as a primary lol. My Ranger has some trouble getting into groups, but I need to worry about more group beneficial skills and I'm curious about testing out some traps.

Nice thread. agree with most of it, especially the ranger portion.
I think it is sad to know how this permeates.

The real problem is that most of the people playing the game stink, and give that impression of their class. Thus you only get about 10% of any class really giving it their all, and the rest giving bad impressions whatever their class is.

Hello,
My name is The Infamous Ranger...
And I have been persecuted. To let it go I sometimes cry. Sometimes I look for female dancers to get jiggy with. Sometimes I get some dwarven ale... then I get wasted. Then when I feel better I go to HoH and join a 'friendly group'. Then comes the persecuting..the cycle never ends. I hope people feel the same way and take a stand against persecuters everywhere. Nice post!

Wonderfully written, Xue Yi Liang! It's nice to know we are all equally persecuted.

i want to say what sucks as my warrior sometimes is when the other warrior decided , oh traps.. bah how can those 4 traps that rangers repeatedly showed us she was casting help against all those guys..... i'm gonna run ahead of them instead of running back so the pulling works..... and then he bunches up most of the enemies in front of the traps and i wait for him to back up... cause the rest of the groupo is yelling at him to... but he doesn't so i have to go in help do some damge and tthe ele has started casting htere and the traps are useless.. the fight is really close but thanx to our monk no one dies... after the fight .......
R "why didn't you pull into the traps"
W2: "oh sorry i forgot i won't next time"
Me: good job guys close call... next time we utilize the traps.."
next fight..... goes the sdame way as the first!! rinse repeat

I think I have been witness to almost all of that, although I dont think its the proffesion that gets you the greif, its the fools that say that stuff in the first place, unfortunantly there are lots of people like that around.

I certainly agree about the Necro Pets mainly because they block my path to the mob, but, they are good for fodder so while I curse under my breath it does save the monk energy by having them.
Mesmers? What are those? haha
Elementalist? Well hell if they would 2ndary Necro they'd have unlimited energy now wouldn't they?
Monks? There are 2 types the good ones and those that shouldn't be playing them.
Warriors? You can't argue with dps noobish or not W/Mo's built right can hold their own and save monks energy.
Rangers? Yeah their one pet suks and just gets in the way. Only in DAOC did rangers ever get any love.

I hate seeing so many noobs who just refuse to learn. All the classes are balanced and have their own ins and outs. There isn't a single sucky class in the game. They all have their strenghts and weaknesses. I personally hate being a monk, especially in PvP. "Rez me you n00b monk!!!!11" has come up on many occasions, several after I was dead . One time I got a similar demand, and I ctrl-clicked on my life bar and it said "You are dead" Then I get "I don't give a rats @$$ if your dead rez me"
Never underestimate the power of stupid people.

Awesome post!!! And true, too.

Sad part is this is so true. (all of it)
trelloskilos
It's a great tongue-in-cheek post, and I'd be wrong to admit that I didn't have one or more of those frustrations with the other classes, or overlooked one class in favour of another when assembling a PUG.
For my sins though, I intend to try out every class in the game anyway.

I'm seeing some people here saying Necros don't run out of energy. My necro who is not quite Ascended has a lot of energy problems. Are you talking about using the elite Offering of Blood? I can see that would be very helpful, but otherwise, Necros don't seem to have much energy management.
As to the OP saying good luck to necros who want ecto etc. My necro is almost ready to solo the UW, I just need to get ascended so I can get in!

I'm a mesmer and love being one becuase everyone hates them i was in an arena and it was just me a level 8 E/Me (im only an ele for the energy stoage) against a level 10 W/E he was full health and i had about 50% helth, i cast empathy and backfire on him, he was dead in no time and i had full health. And who is it that runs in and casts backfire on the monk and kills him/her when she tries to heal, or uses power leak while a monk is using ressurect to stop it, what you said about mesmers not getting any credit, SO TRUE

I agree with everything said in the first post.. except for the warrior hating monks and monks feeling the same about warriors, i look at every player the same no matter what class i am.. sadly this is not the same for everyone
Luna Thirteen
Being a necro in PvP is funny because no one knows if you're even doing anything. I was like patting myself on the back for a well played lingering curse on an over-buffed Ghostly Hero in a King of the Hill match and a few key putrid explosions but people were like, "Luna, did you do anything that whole time?" I stopped doing UW before the 105/55 hp monk build came up because playing monk in UW was AWFUL. It's impossible to convince people that it's hard to heal 3 tanks with 2 monks...especially when pretty much each tank needs constant heal/prot spams. Same thing every time: "WTF monk...where's the heals? Why didn't you heal me as well as you healed so-and-so?" despite that he claimed to be a tank, yet had no evasion stances. Being a warrior doesn't by defualt make you a tank idiot. I hate Warriors when I'm a monk

And monks can do the invincible thing.
But generaly all you need is a good tank (Warrior) and your team is 50% off to a better start then the average team.

And yeah, the OP was spot on. I've even been guilty of one or more of those biases myself... when I ran a warrior, I really hated pets since they got underfoot so much. It wasn't until I played a ranger secondary with a pet that I realized it wasn't the pet's fault... it was the poor targetting practice and bad timing of the owner.

As a warrior, I don't hate monks. It's because of monks that I can bring in a different skillset other than stances and multiple healing skills.
I generally hate other warriors to be honest. It's a lot easier if one warrior sits at the front with everything on him, and the monks worrying just about one character. Then come the AoEs, necros drop Mark of Pain, Spiteful Spirit, mesmer with a chaos storm or two. Meanwhile I sit with one healing seed on me and I'm fine. Throw in one other warrior who runs away when his life starts to drop and the entire equation is doomed. Now the enemies are behind me, chasing and knocking down the rest of the party. Energy gets low, everyone starts dying... ugh.
It was interesting when I was in a FoW group with two other warriors. We were constantly having problems until the other two warriors left. Then, everything went smoothly.

My favourite character to play is a Mesmer (with Ele secondary, initially, now Monk). It got really bad after ascension, going to ToA was a waste of time, everyone would expect you to be nuking, which with a Mesmers energy resource is undoable. Lets just forget recognition, for the work you do do in stopping monks, bosses and any other magic user. Many times I have left PUGs after missions, due to the amount of abuse about not pulling my weight and others claiming that thier nuking/tanking was out of this world.
Another issue is generally, the only credit I get is that my Mesmer is hot (well she is), but I refrain from ruining teenage dreams by revealing I'm actually a guy.
I'm just glad that my guild mates all actually recognise the uses of Mesmers. This is mainly due to me being the only Mesmer at the beginning, and being in many parties with them, enough so they miss me when I'm not there. Now we have a fairly large amount of Mesmer primaries in the Guild (for Mesmers that is).

When I first started I made a monk elementalist, since thats what I used in the free beta and it worked pretty good. My whole gimmick was charging in to clusters of monsters, heal myself while splashing out aoe nukes. It worked rather well for me. However, while doing all this my group mates would be dying. They constantly would ask me what the hell kind of monk I thought I was. I normally wouldn't heal them, because I needed my energy to nuke those bastards and heal myself. I used a sword and a shield at this point, since I really didn't care much about stat items this early on. So I got to yak's bend I think and then decided I'd rather just be something else.
I've played a healer in every rpg game i've played and I'm used to people giving their incredible insight into what I am doing, but I guess enough is enough. I made a mesmer monk and that worked out great. However, during this whole game experience I have found henchmen to be much more reliable, much more competent then most actual players. Quite boring not having the random sayings of other players in group chat, but thats why we fill the friends list and join guilds hmm.
